I’ve just read your ‘my food-losophy’ blog. I couldn’t stop reading it - it has been addressed so well, covering every part of the argument. Thank you for taking the time to air this seemingly taboo subject. It worries me that fake meat and cheeses are entering the market to make money for someone and they are being cleverly but completely falsely marketed as the eco friendly option! Does a person eating these foods look at the ingredients label? It worries me. I remember 50 - 60 years ago we were told what to eat and look where that has got us - many people suffering diabetes and cancer etc etc. We thought if the government tells us this was safe well it must be! LOL As a human we are also omnivores naturally and I believe we all need to do things naturally for our health and the good of the planet we call home. And eat organic.
I am vegan but I think anything people can do to reduce the impact on the environment is better than nothing. I think we can all learn from each other and if we each contribute our bit, we will gradually make big changes. Do not judge what others do (yes, she consumes animal products but many vegans do not watch how much plastic they use every day, and yes until I discovered this girl I was not aware of it). What I want to say is that it is better to appreciate that she cares about zero waste and who knows, maybe one day she also decides to become vegan;) everything in due time. I honestly admire her, because you have to be eager to travel around London to find Zero Waste shops.
I totally agree with you. I really dislike this “all-or-nothing”-attitude of some people. Like you could reduce your waste by 80%, but people will make you feel like crap for the remaining 20%...jeez, I’m only human, give me a break, I’m trying!
It’s really nice to find an eco UA-camr that also eats animal products, it’s awesome to have low waste content for all diets and lifestyles. please keep posting more videos :)
Love watching zero waste food shopping hauls, makes me so motivated and inspired. All the comments bellow seem to be a huge argument about veganism or not. You should do what you feel is best for you, keeping in mind whats best for your body and the environment. You're clearly so environmentally concious, you're amazing!!
I need a supermarket like this in my life!! It's so great! I live in a small city in Germany and here zero waste shopping hasn't really arrived. Some big citys like Berlin have something along those lines, but nothing for smaller places. Such a shame! But I hope to move to a bigger city soon!
minimalistic flower Yes!I live in Greece! you can get a variety of bulk things here but it's quite hard because you have to go everywhere. There's also a milk vending machine but the milk is ultra pasteurized so I don't use it... I'd love a super market like this!
In Portugal that happens to me as well. I try to go to the farmers market and to the bulk section on the supermarket. Its still not perfect but most of the time ask yourself for another ways.
I am in a small town in Kansas, US. I too wish we had a store like this. We only have a Dillons and Wal-Mart, neither has bulk bins. Our farmer's market only runs summer to early fall.
Some of my earliest environmental influences came from a year living in Germany in the early 90s. I still have some of the cloth bags nearly 30 years later and they're amazing. Recycling was, in my opinion, way ahead of The UK but we're certainly improving and doing more, which is great.
Love, love, love your channel! Your video on your kitchen really inspired me. When my electric coffee maker broke I decided to go straight to a stovetop percolator same for my electric kettle now I just have a kettle for the stove top. Such better choices than having things that break and end up in a landfill. I also fell in love with your toaster and didn't even think I could get one because I live in the United States. Thank heaven for Amazon. I am now the proud owner of a four slice Dualit toaster (bigger family here) Mine by the way was made by a nice gentleman named John in Great Britain. I love the fact that it can be repaired. You bring some really amazing ideas please keep it up. Just on a side note I was a vegetarian for a long time and stepped away from it for health reasons.. I too am careful about the meat products that I buy and how they are raised and butchered. So thanks for all you do!
Love your videos and lifestyle but especially loved your food-losophy post. There is so much of what I have always thought but never managed to get out into words, or at least words that sounded reasonable to the people I was discussing with. Thanks.
This is my go to youtube video! I dont know why but it's just so... calming, i am trying to go low waste and I find videos like these very inspirational :)
Just found your Food-losophy blogpost via the description and was impressed by the way you handle all the comments about going vegan. You put a lot of work in your lifestyle and it shows!
This is one of the first zero waste videos I've seen with meat, cheese, milk, etc. and I'm so happy that you shared! It's hard to find answers on how to go zero waste shopping for beef or chicken. Thanks for the awesome video! :D
As someone on a serious budget, I'd love you to do one in a more accessible shop in London! As someone new to it, doing it a place like Morrisons or Lidl seems impossible. Also do you know where Hetu is gonna be based? I can't seem to find the location anywhere.
Vegan guys! Please stop telling her to stop eating meat. Instead please focus on not using plastic packaging. I'm sorry to say but a LOT of vegans think the're superior to any meat eater and still think it's less harmfull for the environment to eat veggies wrapped in plastic. Which btw will stay with your gandchildrens grandchildren and will be poisoning them even if the world would be all vegan by then. And also plastic pieces cause marine life damage in a long term. These extremly high standards of who is the "true environmentalist" are very hard to follow. Just think how many vegans are "true vegans" if you consider plastic-users-marine-life-killers non vegans?! So maybe you should stop pointing fingers. Ps. I'm sorry if this comment is harsh. I did't want to offend any vegan, I myself am a non meat eater and I am so tired of these unrealistic approaches. Love your video!
Hi Kate..hope all is well! You don't seem as bubbly as usual. I love your videos and philosophy. I live in Guatemala and we need to work a lot to become more green with some things...little by little! Thank you for your great videos and ideas. I truly hope you are doing well.
I truely believe in the need of zero waste lifestyle (to protect our earth, all food sources, water sources, oceans, forests, wildlife, clean air...) BUT...living zero waste is expensive. I am practising to be a vegetarian for the last 7 -8 months and trying my very best to switch to zero waste lifestyle... I live at the edge of South London and Surrey. I need to travel a lot to find unpackaged food and drinks. I stopped buying fruit juice.etc..for this reason. But I cant shop from the shop Ann shows here all the time. My budget is not enough. I cant shop from whole foods all the time. My budget is not enough... If I had a family of 4 or 5, my budget would be impossible.. I,for example, cant pay 3.50 or 4.00 pounds for a loaf of bread. In these shops this is almost the lowest price. I tried farmers market in Wimbledon..Ended up paying 7 pounds to tomatoes that hardly filled two hands...I raise vegetables and try to bake my bread a lot of times but I also work 6 days a week and sometimes it is impossible to find the time for evetything... I love zero waste lifestyle.I am not critising how much zero waste shoppers spend on more expensive shops/markets.. If your budget is okay then you are cool and I am happy for you....But if zero waste is a need more people should apply, then we need more shops and bulk shop corners on reasonable prices.. In every country.... I appreciate the video and love the spirit.. There is a long way to go for us small budget zero waste shoppers...💛💛💛
Wish I had a store like that near me. I'm trying to buy things with less packaging and I am doing alright. But for some products it is a real challenge (or it's ridiculously expensive). But thnx for making me aware. :)
Hi i just started this zero waste thing but i just have to say those tins are beautiful I hope I could take this knowledge to Mexico in the following year it'll be a little bit harder but I know I'll be happy knowing that I take something from you and many other people that are zero waste thank you
I've been starting to think about reducing waste, especially after I found my country to be one of the biggest waste producers. I pretty much instantly sunk into depression trying to figure out how such life could even be possible and how much of the economy would have to change. This video at least inspired me to work on my own part. One question though, how much time do you spend on planing, shopping, and cooking per month? Time is about the biggest factor keeping me and probably most people from choosing such a lifestyle. I spend 5-12 hours a month, that's 10-30 minutes a day, and still feels tedious. I don't suppose that's beatable.

What good does it do to consume meat AND plastic, when the two needn't be dependent on one another.
Do you find that the cloth bags make your bread smell/taste of washing powder? The lady in my local bakery was not keen to put the bread in a cloth bag for this reason.
I live in the US. I used to shop at Whole Foods because I could bring my own containers for the bulk section. Now I can't because of some stupid policy with Amazon. I wish that the US was more on top of this like Europe is.
Do/did you notice a difference when you started eating meat again during periods? I'm a vegetarian for a couple of years now and I think my hormones are behaving way heavier than when I did eat meat... I might consider eating meat again. Thanks for your amazing blog about eating meat and your amazing videos!
Hi there, just wanted to share my experience, I've been vegan for about a year and a half and I've recently been focusing a lot more on whole foods and working out more and my period has gone from a hellish 10 day stint to a way more manageable 6 day experience. Switching to organic pads has helped as well. I have a condition called PCOS which messes with my period and stuff, but I would really suggest staying away from all animal products cause youre putting hormones into your body we're just not meant to have. Hope things regulate for you!
Hey Kate! I love your show so much. You are what inspired me to be a zero waster. :) I was wondering if you have any ideas on how to stay zero waste (as much as we can anyway) while traveling? I was thinking of definitely checking local bulk shops where I am staying. But any other ideas?
If I may make a suggestion with great love and respect. It’s disheartening to read in the comments Vegans policing how other people live their lives. When we stop trying to control other people’s actions we create more space to love each other, as a result, developing more loving relationships with people and ourselves. If we take the ego out of veganism perhaps having people strive for a more environmentally friendly lifestyle helps the animals and humans. Thank you for the video.
I just love your videos!💕 So enoyed that we havnt got a zero waste shop in Stockholm yet. Only one in sweden so far but hopefully more will open soon as it is such a growing movement! 💪🙏🌱
Hi Kate! I'm so happy I found your channel. I could spend hours listening to your voice (and that's what I did today 😂) Do you feel the need to wash your cloth bags? How often?
Hi Kate, just started watching your videos. Love them! Have a quick question: how do you shop for prescriptions/medicine? I would love to avoid them altogether but my husband has a heart condition and unfortunately pills are unavoidable. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. ❤️
OMG so jealous! here in milan it's so difficult to shop zero waste, there's just one shop really (40 minutes by bus from my home) - at the farmer's market they put produce in plastic bags! and in other shop that shoul be zero waste they force you to use their bags (PLASTIC OF COURSE). I think I should open a sensible shop myself :D
hey kate, i was just wondering if you could give us some tips on how to buy berries package free, especially during the warmer months, thank you for this video
Thank you so much for this video, I was looking for zero waste stores and had no clue where they were in UK, so your video made my life easier. I am so thankful to you for making this video. I had to subscribe. Great job well done :)
where do you buy water or you filter it? it is just crazy amount of filters on UK market. I am so confused and even I am not sure I will go totally 100 % zero waste, water from plastic bottles drives me crazy.
100% zero-waste lifestyle is nearly impossible for humans . i usually call it as minimal-waste lifestyle . you can purchase a water filter because that's much better . but i usually filter my water and then boils it . just so you know , filtering the water doesn't kill the microorganisms . it just remove the suspended particles like sand or dirt . boiling it will kill the microorganisms .
Dear Kate, Love your videos! Just in case you don't know this: once you have peeled your kohlrabi, you can actually eat it raw (grown up with them in Germany but sadly up here in Manchester not so readily available). Otherwise they are also nice cooked with a roux or you could steam them by themselves. Your efforts to go plastic free are totally, totally laudable and inspiring. It's given me lots of ideas of how to improve myself!!! And I agree that we should operate a 'live and let live' policy. Pressuring anyone into doing things is wrong. My body, for example, is not coping very well with cutting out all animal products and whilst I definitely don't eat meat I do best when eating fish occasionally (but experimenting again with switching to quorn products, which are now available in many more varieties than in the past. I will have to see how that goes).
What was the total cost of your grocery haul? Just want an idea. I tried to get dry goods in the bulk section of my local market and a small jar of quinoa cost me $9! Crazy!
IKR? No packaging should make those products cheaper and yet the price tags in those bulk stores can be ridiculous. As s long as it is the case, I will still buy some items like nuts and grains in packaging.
I think I would ask the cashier to tally up the meats last, so produce has less chance of getting contamjnated. Sigh...wish we had a butcher here in Central California, USA who would put meats into my tins or jars. Thanks for your videos.
Hi KateHow awesome is it to be able to shop like this!!! I feel very sad that shopping plastic free works out so freekin' expensive :-( Any chance we could have a zero waste on a budget video? Kate (also!) 😘
Finally! As you can imagine I’ve been ramaging around UA-cam to find your channel....very very naughty girl Kate......right back to your fascinating channel and yes I would buy from you because I’m the same eco aware and loveeeeee organic produce depending on where and who the farmers are....cheers luv🥂🍾🍻🍹🍺🥃🍷alora Booz because it’s FRIYAY! Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
Why there's not like bulks of soy milk or soy butter, anything that doesn't come from cow and comes from plants :< im lactose intolerant and dont really like the taste of it, so lactose free doesnt work also. i cry everytime :
@@ktsterlin9304 thank you my dear, I've been suffering with freezing meat and chicken ithout plastic, I would buy it twice a week and cook immediately in order to avoid freezing them with plastic bags
99% of the comments are telling vegans to stop harassing her for eating meat but I have not seen a single comment from a vegan shaming her for eating meat. Omg.
I'm vegan myself but any judgemental, aggressive comments are uncalled for. We can be compassionate with each other :) I want to share respectfully, a quote from the UN - 'a global shift towards a vegan diet is vital to save the world from hunger, fuel poverty, and the worst impacts of climate change' So it is important, and anybody wanting to be more eco friendly and sustainable should look at reducing animal products :) Continuing to eat meat everyday, for example, wouldn't really fit with environmentalism in my opinion. But gradual change is best, do things at your pace, and we can all support each other :) (and be nice! Let's stop the smug and aggressive comments!)
At last!! I was searching for a zero waster who eats meat too!! I didn't know what to do with this type of food. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Same!!!

I wish SO MUCH that there was a shop like this where I live!
Yeah, everything looked so fresh and delicious! Especially the bread and vegetables! :P
same!

Kohlrabi goes really nicely with apples in coleslaw, or salads. If you haven't already tried that before.

What a heavenly shopping experience! I may watch this again. :)

that's a really nice bag, with the metal handles!
A refill station of Ecover products, wish I had this near my house. Would be awesome.
Wish I had a store like that near me. I'm trying to buy things with less packaging and I am doing alright. But for some products it is a real challenge (or it's ridiculously expensive). But thnx for making me aware. :)
Hi i just started this zero waste thing but i just have to say those tins are beautiful I hope I could take this knowledge to Mexico in the following year it'll be a little bit harder but I know I'll be happy knowing that I take something from you and many other people that are zero waste thank you
Where did you get your tin cans from?
I've been starting to think about reducing waste, especially after I found my country to be one of the biggest waste producers. I pretty much instantly sunk into depression trying to figure out how such life could even be possible and how much of the economy would have to change. This video at least inspired me to work on my own part.
One question though, how much time do you spend on planing, shopping, and cooking per month? Time is about the biggest factor keeping me and probably most people from choosing such a lifestyle. I spend 5-12 hours a month, that's 10-30 minutes a day, and still feels tedious. I don't suppose that's beatable.
Love the video ! What about milk and yoghurt? How do you shop for these products ?
That grocery store looks so nice! Do you meal plan/prep at all or is this just what you know you like? Loved the video!
I really enjoy the British zero waste vloggers. It's actually helpful not having a whole foods thrown in your face 😂
I'm vegan, too, and yes, my first reaction was also 'butcher? what on earth...', but actually: I am so, so, so glad for anyone doing anything for our planet, and actually Kate is helping people who eat meat do a little something for the environment. What good does it do to consume meat AND plastic, when the two needn't be dependent on one another.
What is the size of the tin that could fit a whole chicken?
Hi
for the stainless steel container for chicken do you recommend size 20? or 23cm?
Do you find that the cloth bags make your bread smell/taste of washing powder? The lady in my local bakery was not keen to put the bread in a cloth bag for this reason.
Bizzy McClure you can put it in a container
You should take a small piece of your ginger and plant it. It is easy to grow even inside :)
Grocery store goals!!
I wish I had a store like this near me in the US. I have the hardest time find fruits and veggies that arn't in plastic.

It's called mind over matter
Hi there, just wanted to share my experience, I've been vegan for about a year and a half and I've recently been focusing a lot more on whole foods and working out more and my period has gone from a hellish 10 day stint to a way more manageable 6 day experience. Switching to organic pads has helped as well. I have a condition called PCOS which messes with my period and stuff, but I would really suggest staying away from all animal products cause youre putting hormones into your body we're just not meant to have. Hope things regulate for you!
going vegan and gluten free and limiting the refined sugar made my pcos go away, I literally have no cysts on either of my ovaries anymore !
Hey Kate! I love your show so much. You are what inspired me to be a zero waster. :)
I was wondering if you have any ideas on how to stay zero waste (as much as we can anyway) while traveling? I was thinking of definitely checking local bulk shops where I am staying. But any other ideas?
Hi kate!!!where did you get that huge canvass sack looking grocery bag???its cute
If I may make a suggestion with great love and respect. It’s disheartening to read in the comments Vegans policing how other people live their lives. If we take the ego out of veganism perhaps having people strive for a more environmentally friendly lifestyle helps the animals and humans. Thank you for the video.
Thanks for all of the info and encouragement to go waste free. Will definitely start looking for cloth bags and tins to help! :)
I need a list like this for Denver!
I just love your videos!💕
So enoyed that we havnt got a zero waste shop in Stockholm yet.
This is so much inspiring for people in my country, thanks a lot Kate. Warm greetings from Indonesia!:)
Coriander is the best 😍🤣🤣
With the zero waste lifestyle. What do you do about gifts for like Christmas?
OMG so jealous! here in milan it's so difficult to shop zero waste, there's just one shop really (40 minutes by bus from my home) - at the farmer's market they put produce in plastic bags! and in other shop that shoul be zero waste they force you to use their bags (PLASTIC OF COURSE). hey kate, i was just wondering if you could give us some tips on how to buy berries package free, especially during the warmer months, thank you for this video
I wish we had more of these types of grocery shops in America!
Can you please do a q+a about zero waste?
Kohl Rabi tip: Shred/grate it to use as a substitute for cabbage in a coleslaw or sauerkraut recipe! DEElish!
Thank you so much for this video, I was looking for zero waste stores and had no clue where they were in UK, so your video made my life easier. I am so thankful to you for making this video. I had to subscribe. Great job well done :)
For how long does the meat stay fresh when its not packed in plastic? Great video btw! Love your channel 😊
Marie Brøgger Najbjerg , I find meat goes bad faster with plastic than without. It depends on the meat and practices how long it lasts.
Love this even when I'm one year late but in Thailand we just start reducing single used plastic bag.
I wish we had these stores in the U.S
I don't know if that is a rude question, but how much did you pay for this grocery shopping?
So happy! Missed youre videos!
What about things like Pasta and Rice?
Your so amazing! I wish there were places around where I live that are so nice about zero waste. I live in Utah, USA
do you also have a hairvideo? i like your hairstyle. what kind of shampoo are you using?
where do you buy water or you filter it? it is just crazy amount of filters on UK market. I am so confused and even I am not sure I will go totally 100 % zero waste, water from plastic bottles drives me crazy.
You can't drink from the tap?
100% zero-waste lifestyle is nearly impossible for humans . i usually call it as minimal-waste lifestyle . you can purchase a water filter because that's much better . but i usually filter my water and then boils it . just so you know , filtering the water doesn't kill the microorganisms . it just remove the suspended particles like sand or dirt . boiling it will kill the microorganisms .
Toyon95 in some countries , they can't drink the water from the tap because it's not filtered .
Man, what an incredible grocery store!!
What was the total cost of your grocery haul? Just want an idea. I tried to get dry goods in the bulk section of my local market and a small jar of quinoa cost me $9! Crazy!
Where I live (Italy) shopping in bulk is usually more expensive than packaged goods! Insane
I'm curious how people check out thier food when it all in one bag already
Wow! Impressive :) Nothing like this where I am in the US.
I don't think we have stores like this around me :/
I wish I knew what this store was
Hi KateHow awesome is it to be able to shop like this!!! I feel very sad that shopping plastic free works out so freekin' expensive :-( Any chance we could have a zero waste on a budget video? Kate (also!) 😘

Natalie Elizabeth thats true
Natalie Elizabeth
PUKE
But most people dont want to, we like meat
How would we feel, though, if we were the animals and were going through what we do to them?
I love this so much lol my goal is to grocery shop like you
Love this video it's super cute and helpful!
I love my cotton bags, saves me 10p/20p each visit to the supermarket, and no plastic :)
I really enjoyed the video!
you should try making your own bread! it's a fun time
Why there's not like bulks of soy milk or soy butter, anything that doesn't come from cow and comes from plants :< im lactose intolerant and dont really like the taste of it, so lactose free doesnt work also. i cry everytime :
Random Girl making soy milk is actually very easy and cheap. Look up some recipes on UA-cam.
FoodAddict hum not sure if i have the necessary equipment at home but I'm gonna look into it. ;)
I like meat though 😩 , what to do ! thx Kate for the vid , cool 👍
Try eating less of it, twice a week to begin with. That's already a huge improvement :)
Gina LaFionda thx for the advice hun !
Hello beautiful lady. I have a question, how do you store meat and chicken in the freezer without plastic??
You could store it in the same container she purchased it in, metal. Or glass
@@ktsterlin9304 thank you my dear, I've been suffering with freezing meat and chicken ithout plastic, I would buy it twice a week and cook immediately in order to avoid freezing them with plastic bags
This is great🤗
This is extremely helpful!
Hi there! New subscriber! Love love love the videos I have watched so far. May i ask what city you live in? Xoxo
Is that too invasive? Lol I apologize! It just seems so beautiful.
Highly doubt grocery stores are gonna let you bring your own egg carton. Like no stores let you do this except a few hipster stores.
Super inspiring!
I LOVE STEAK, PORK, CHICKEN ANYTHING DEAD AND COOKED MEDIUM RARE IS GOOD FOR ME
ALSO I HATE VEGANS THAT PREACH TO PEOPLE ALL THE TIME AND THEY ALWAYS GET ANGRY WITH MEAT EATERS
99% of the comments are telling vegans to stop harassing her for eating meat but I have not seen a single comment from a vegan shaming her for eating meat. Omg.
So inspirational, I can't wait until we can drive so we can go to local farmers markets and get rid of that goddamn plastic
I'm vegan myself but any judgemental, aggressive comments are uncalled for. We can be compassionate with each other :)
I want to share respectfully, a quote from the UN -
'a global shift towards a vegan diet is vital to save the world from hunger, fuel poverty, and the worst impacts of climate change'
So it is important, and anybody wanting to be more eco friendly and sustainable should look at reducing animal products :) Continuing to eat meat everyday, for example, wouldn't really fit with environmentalism in my opinion. But gradual change is best, do things at your pace, and we can all support each other :) (and be nice! Let's stop the smug and aggressive comments!)
your voice is amazing.
Finally a zero waste chanel that is not vegan :D I'm so happy I found your chanel, youtube is envaded by vegan people --'
Big big thank you you inspire ....".. there is just toooooo much plastic out there
