      @@duckyobrien I bought a clear black one this week on Aliexpress! I have modded my GBC and GBA’s with Ips and battery mods. I even have a GB Micro that I always take with me. But I wanted a device that can be portable enough to fit in my pocket, have a good built quality and that can replace my GB Micro (I don’t want to loose it on vacation so it will be safe at home). Your review helped me what to expect from the Miyoo mini + 😊. I almost got the Mini V4 but it looked so terrible to play on.

      @@duckyobrien The Micro is a good little device! The Famicon edition is beautiful also! Yeah I read that too, but it must be not that great to play with one hand that’s why I went for the + 😌 Thanks!!

      Just received yesterday and it is an amazing little device! I’m glad I bought this one and not the original mini, because the + is tiny! One question though, does yours make a « pop » noise everytime you turn it on and off?

      I agree that a larger handheld would be more ergonomic.
      Anyways if you just wanted the Miyoo Mini Plus to be larger, there are free printable files for grips that make it very similar to the original Game Boy Color. Example here: www.etsy.com/listing/1721146703/miyoo-mini-plus-gbc-grip-gripboy-classic?gpla=1&gao=1&

      @@stokerman159 I did a little bit of testing, nothing thorough. I tried out mp3, ogg, and flac files for classical music. It sounds pretty good using headphones but I am no audiophile.
      The GMU app is simple to use but does take a minute or two to get used to. It has most of the features the average person would be looking for in a music player.
      It was easy to add files. You can just drag and drop them into SD/Media/Music. You can use the wireless file browser if you want to.
      Playlists are created using .m3u files. You can create one and then use it as a template to make your own if you don't want to use the GMU app.
      I saw someone do this for their RG35XX but you should be able to use an aux cable for your car too. I can't test it out because I don't have an aux cable.
      The default keybind for prev/next track are the trigger buttons so if you have it mounted it may be a bit difficult to skip tracks. Haven't tested out rebinding keys but you can edit the SD/App/GMU/default.keymap file.
      One note of concern, depending on your headphone jack, if the connection to the Miyoo isn't secure and you have the device in your pocket, a little bit of jiggle may move the jack and introduce static into the sound.
      That's about it, lmk if you want to know anything else.

    Its just the memory card with games. Would you know if there is a website where sellers already update the memory card into a better brand with games and sell with console? Im not techy so its kind if difficult for me to transfer all the games into a new branded memory card.

    • @duckyobrien
      @duckyobrien  2 місяці тому

      Yeah if it's just the memory card that's expensive. That said, most sellers located in the US won't sell you cards with games on it because selling these games is highly illegal.
      gogamegeek sells a Miyoo Mini Plus with preinstalled games but it costs $90 with a coupon: www.gogamegeek.com/OnionOS-Preinstalled-Miyoo-Mini-Plus-Handheld-Game-Console-with-Built-in-Games-p2307479.html
      Buying it from aliexpress will cost roughly $40 during a sale period so take that as you will.
      I haven't used gogamegeek personally so I can't vouch for them but others seemed to have good success.
      These handhelds are not reliably built by the way. Some will have problems and I'm not sure if gogamegeek has a good returns policy. There's always some risk involved when buying these handhelds. Just letting you know so you don't get disappointed if problems arise.
      Another option is buying from a seller that ships from Amazon if you live in the US. Amazon returns are pretty easy but the handhelds cost more. Also very few sellers replace the memory card. You can risk using the memory card that comes with it if you want.
      Hope that answers your question!

    What would you recommend for a device that is better than this, but isn't a Steamdeck? Would like something that plays DS and N64 games well, but if it can play wii as well that'd be cool.

      Anbernic 405m

    • @duckyobrien
      @duckyobrien  6 місяців тому

      If you want to play Wii games at decent speeds the cheapest, most decent handheld will be the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro. It's $200 + shipping (and sometimes import fees depending where you live if you use DHL) and DS and 64 games will run fantastically on it. There are issues with the shoulder button spring breaking instantly but according to Retroid any new consoles shipping should have the problem fixed by now.
      If you don't care about Wii, that opens up more possibilities.
      Horizontal with Larger Screen: 556 ($174, 5.48"), 405M ($152, 4"), Retroid Pocket 4 ($150, 4.7"), 505 ($130, 4.95"), Retroid Pocket 3+ ($125, 4.7"), RGB10 Max 3 ($115, 5")
      Prices will fluctuate as there will always be sales.
      Horizontal with Smaller Screen: Retroid Pocket 2S ($90, 3.5")
      Vertical: RG 405V ($126, 4")
      If you're willing to take less performance then that widens up your choices even more. Generally speaking people regard Retroid pretty well, followed by Anbernic, and then Powkiddy last. There's a severe lack of QA so you may get a handheld with an issue, something to keep in mind.
      Hope that helps and happy hunting!
      As a side note if you're willing to forgo N64, an used DSi XL is the best native hardware to play DS games.

    • @duckyobrien
      @duckyobrien  6 місяців тому

      I forgot to mention, if you have a larger budget, many people recommend the Odin 2. This device is overkill but it's more portable than the Steam Deck, slightly cheaper, and can emulate many consoles well. The base model is available for preorder for $300 right now and should ship in early March.

    • @fargnbastage
      @fargnbastage 6 місяців тому

      @@duckyobrien Well if I'm honest with myself, I think I primarily will only need this for Gameboy, N64 and Gameboy DS games. I was wanting to get something for my kid, and dip my toes into roms/handhelds.
      Would the Anbernic 405m be sufficient to play those above consoles? Or anything that's cheaper that would be capable as well?
      Also does the Anbernic 405m come with roms instaleld, or is that something I'll have to setup as well?
      I was looking at the PowKiddy RGB30 previously.

    • @duckyobrien
      @duckyobrien  6 місяців тому

      @@fargnbastage The 405M will be more than enough but if this device is for your kid you can definitely go for something a bit cheaper if you want to save some money.
      The RGB30 should be ok as well. N64 performance may be spotty for some games but if you turn on frame skip it should be ok. This device has more of a squareish screen so you will have black bars on the top and bottom.
      The X55 should be ok as well and on the same performance level and price of the RGB30 since they run the same chipset. The wider screen should be more suited to playing DS games as well.
      The RG35XX Plus and RG35XX H are also some budget friendly options with ok N64 performance. Custom firmware isn't fully developed yet but the stock OS is usable.
      I have a Miyoo Mini Plus and while playing DS games on a small screen is ok, you do have to get used to switching between the touch screen and the main screen. Interfacing with the touch screen portion is not ideal using the dpad so that's something to keep in mind. Most people just focus on games that primarily only use the main display. A wider display will let you put both screens up at once but it still isn't ideal. It may be a bother or not but just thought I'd mention this.
      As for roms it depends on where you buy the 405M. If the store listing explicitly states a memory card size, then most likely it will come with roms and no setup is necessary. However, I would highly recommend you buy your own micro sd card and download your own rom set.
      The sd cards that come with the devices are notoriously cheap and will eventually become corrupted. The roms they use are also unreliable as well but you can keep using it if you want. The main risk here is losing save files/states and at worst case having the OS files get corrupted.
      You can choose to use the stock firmware and OS but installing a custom OS like Gamma on the 405M will probably make it easier to use. It's pretty simple to do and you can check out Retro Game Corps if you want a guide: ua-cam.com/video/BD0ab1gr4gM/v-deo.html
      Hope this answers your questions!

    Does this have pre-loaded games?

    • @duckyobrien
      @duckyobrien  2 місяці тому +1

      It depends on where you buy it. If it says 64GB, 128GB, etc then it will come with a microSD card that has preloaded games.
      However just a word of warning here, the microSD cards that come with the device usually has a high fail rate and some of the games provided on the card are usually not reliable as well.
      Most people have an OK experience but you may run into some issues like save files becoming corrupted or the handheld not being able to boot.
      Hope that answers your question!

    • @duckyobrien
      @duckyobrien  2 місяці тому +1

      @@sueannepuzon Sorry I can't think of any off the top of my head! Most of these handhelds have the games on microSD cards.
      There are sellers on etsy that sell branded microSD cards with games on it but you'd have to check the reviews to make sure they aren't selling counterfeit cards. There is a slight markup though. I wouldn't pay more than $10-$15+shipping above MSRP for whatever microSD card brand they are selling.
      For what it's worth it seems like the newer Anbernic handhelds have slightly more reliable microSD cards. The microSD card that came with my RG35XXH seems to be OK so far but no guarantees.
