    If you know 3 axis programming, making that cube is only a couple adjustments away, but making that octopus is a completely different ball game.

    I guess YES!

    You're not even doing 5-axis contouring in that video, you're using 2 axis simultanously, X and Y, and using the Z, A and C axis for positioning only. After saying "are you ready for 5 axis?" I was kind of expecting 5 axis countouring of a fan blade or something. Still, cool short!

    Two questions:
    1. What brand/model was that stone puck?
    2. What are the parameters (cutter profile, DoC, feed, speed) for the engraving operation?

      Many programmer can't read program . Many machinist that can read and edit program but most of them can't make blue print from program .
      I am a button pusher, can write program at machine while machine still running , but 3D without cam forget about that 😊5-axis machining is just another button pusher.

    5axis is not hard ... the hardest part is paying for the cam license and buying a powerful computer

    • @Sketch1994
      @Sketch1994 Рік тому

      CAM is indeed majorly overlooked when considering the cost, but a powerful computer is 1200-1500€...Plus a good monitor and 3d mouse for another 500-600 and you're set...It's the actual machine and calibration equipment required to keep it running properly that will cost an arm and a leg

  • @richardskull5279
    @richardskull5279 Рік тому +1

    Bet ya not a 1 machinist using 5 axis hand codes. Totally CAD/CAM dependent.
    Hand coding is becoming a lost art.
    Man I'm old....

    • @drafty0183
      @drafty0183 Рік тому

      I guess it is, but when it whips through the code like credits on a movie, it would take ages to write that by hand. Also when every line is just a little different from the one above, AND you need to change A and/or B axis angle a llittle or even continously with each line, not gonna happen by hand.

    • @Convolutedtubules
      @Convolutedtubules Рік тому

      Hand writing code is obsolete, sometimes we edit generated code. Although, learning coding is a great foundation, it helps to understand some code as you are pushing the buttons.

    That cube has been done using that machine as a 3+2 machine not 5 axis. 5axis machining would be used to make the stuff in the intro tho. Jokers these lot are.
