1) .22LR rifle (Ruger American rimfire would be my pick - 10/22 mags on a bolt-action can be interesting) 2) .223/5.56 rifle (usually cheapest center fire ammo either AR pattern or bolt-action that can use AR mags would be preferable options) 3) 12 or 20 gauge mossberg 500 (12 gauge usually has cheapest ammo options, 20 gauge for those sensitive to recoil) 4) Thompson Center Encore - to permit changing cartridges with the change of a barrel 5) .22 or .25 caliber air rifle wildcard: big bore air rifle or air shotgun - or a multi-cartridge revolver (e.g. Ruger convertible revolvers in .357/9mm, .22LR/.22WMR, .45LC/.45ACP) Parts availability & simplicity of design along with cost/availability of ammunition driving much of the above choices.

DD’s AR10 in 6.5 and 308 is 1 MOA or less guaranteed with proper ammunition. That is plenty good for 99% of all scenarios you could encounter and on top of that 95% of shooters won’t be able to out shoot the rifle. Outside of weight savings for hunting or if you are competition shooting there is no need for a bolt gun. If you just like bolt actions and running the bolt I understand that but a semi auto is always the better choice for SHTF, combat and even non competitive precision shooting in tactical situations because you have quicker follow up shots and can stay on target. 1 MOA is plenty good enough for combat accuracy and you see that most SF snipers use a semi auto now. Half MOA and below takes a lot of money to even achieve with a bolt gun anyways. Lol, that is all and agree with the no bolt action on the list!!

During the siege at Ruby Ridge, Randy Weaver's wife, Vicki; his 14-year-old son, Sammy; and U.S. Marshal William Degan were killed. Harris and the younger Weaver said that they were hoping the dog had noticed a game animal as the cabin was out of meat. Ashli Babbitt.
How about the Baretta 1301 for the shotgun? Along the lines you talked about with .22s, a common old police revolver with speedloaders and good ammo will do the job. I laugh because most homesteads don't have weapons with suppressors (even though the noise is a great reason for them). Compressed airguns are OK in SOME states.

We live here in Maine on an off grid Homestead Homestead 100% solar panel we do have a backup our generator. We do love owr A r's . But the crossman pump has taken out quite a bit herself On the Homestead air gun is a must
Can you maybe update some of the old top 5 videos? I'm sure opinions changed slightly and new offerings. I used to watch them all the time.
The difference between conspiracies and truth is about 6 months
My personal Choices:
1: Marlin "JM" 336 in .30-30
2: Mossberg 500 in 12Ga w/multiple barrels and chokes
3: 4" stainless Taurus in .357 Magnum
4: Marlin Model 60 .22 rifle
5: .22 CO2 rifle for pest control
Great Video....and it's nice to see Chad back. Hope everyone is doing well on your end.
Any firearm your comfortable using is the firearm to use..
you're*
Welcome back, Chad. Good seeing you again.
Should of had a black powder muzzle loader on there too. Pretty renewable ammunition.
I remember Barry mentioned that .22lr converter for an AR platform from an old video, he would be proud 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
12 gauge Mossberg pump, Ruger 10/22, Bolt-Action 3:08, semi-auto .223, 9mm handgun
Glad to see you back Chad. Eric, I love ya too of course!
My Top 5 pick. For homesteading, i would try to stick to all-weather guns, because surviving in the middle of nowhere, Blued steel may rust and i might not be able to oil the gun at all times.
1: Glock G20 10mm auto for self defense. Why? Because when the chips are down and my life is on the line, F all opposition.
2: Mossberg 590 mariner Why? Parts availability, highly weather resistant. reliable. can shoot home made ammo if need be.
3. Browning Buckmark URX Contour 7" barrel. Why? Weather resistant, accurate. Lightweight. leaves more room to carry other guns.
4: Savage AXIS XP STAINLESS (308) Why? weather resistant. It Just works. 308 hits like a sledge hammer. very accurate..
5: Ruger SFAR: Why? My go-to choice for when the odds are horrifically stacked against me. parts availability. Good customer support.
You should do top 5 guns for states that are not firearm friendly (California and New York State) obviously not including NYC
First time I agreed with nearly nothing you said but that's cool I enjoyed the video
Great to see you again Chad! Hope you're doing well!
For .22 my choice is a marlin 39a not in production anymore but shoot any ammo easy tear down and all metal
Considering the state of the asset markets atm with a major crash looming, starvation could be rife meaning your homestead could be attacked. Maybe by gangs. So I'd make it a hefty calibre plus anything you can get a big magazine on!
and the gangs might be on pcp and you need to shoot them repeatedly. which means you need a belt fed.

H.C.A.R.!
My 5 are:
Ruger 10/22
Mossberg Maverick 88 12 ga with 20" Accu-choke barrel
Glock 17
16" Aero Precision AR-15 in 5.56
18" Aero Precision M5 in .308, or my Remington 700 in .308
I agree with your guy’s ideas. I already have a 12 gauge semi automatic shotgun.A Ruger 10/22 rifle with a scope. And a Ruger .22 revolver. I would eventually would like to have a high powered rifle. And obviously start my own homestead!
You guys are funny. Between that Benelli, that DD, and that thermal optic you are looking at almost 10k in guns alone. Plenty of other things to spend money on with homesteading before having some gucci guns like that.
My list: Mossberg Maverick 88, Mosin-Nagant, Smith&Wesson SD9VE ($300 at my gun store), Palmetto Armory AR15 (can be had for $500), Ruger 10/22 or Marlin 60 (can't go wrong with either one)
Top 5 guns for the homestead are 1. 45ACP pistol 2. 5.56 carbine with light 3. 12ga shotgun with light and extra ammo 4. Bolt action rifle in a large game caliber "308" 5. Backup gun, supports carbine and bolt gun "AR 10" .
The bolt gun and backup are to be same caliber.
The list is self evident, as purpose of guns on the list. Pistol needs a light also and a good holster. Long guns need slings for them.
Forgot a 22 lr, most used gun on the homestead by far
@@THEBROKEWOODSMAN not used for a long time.
That would be 6th.
@@brianedgett2134 wym not used for a long time? I'm speaking from experience 22lr should be number 1 or 2. It is undoubtedly the most used gun on pretty much any homestead
@@THEBROKEWOODSMAN the homestead changed. Don't have some of the same animals.
My list is to keep it safe and food on table. Don't feel lots of small animals is as good as one large one. In the pot.
5:58 adjustable 3pos gas system for the win!!
I just cut my gas off when I drop my 22 conversion bolt in 😊
And a couple of full power 223 will get most of the lead fouling out.
When my silenced gets super dirty, and beat up enough, I buy another Maglite and make a new one, they do last me about 5-10 years.
1. Cz 457
2. 870 wing master 12ga
3. pre 64 model 70 30-06
4. Smith and Wesson 686
1) .22LR rifle (Ruger American rimfire would be my pick - 10/22 mags on a bolt-action can be interesting)
2) .223/5.56 rifle (usually cheapest center fire ammo either AR pattern or bolt-action that can use AR mags would be preferable options)
3) 12 or 20 gauge mossberg 500 (12 gauge usually has cheapest ammo options, 20 gauge for those sensitive to recoil)
4) Thompson Center Encore - to permit changing cartridges with the change of a barrel
5) .22 or .25 caliber air rifle
wildcard: big bore air rifle or air shotgun - or a multi-cartridge revolver (e.g. Ruger convertible revolvers in .357/9mm, .22LR/.22WMR, .45LC/.45ACP)
Parts availability & simplicity of design along with cost/availability of ammunition driving much of the above choices.
38/357,revolver. single shot 12ga, AR15,223,and a 22 rifle/carbine of choice(10 22 for me
I just bought a savage .17 hmr and I love it. It’s incredibly accurate. Can’t wait to start collecting/tanning coyote pelts to make a big blanket
Watch out that .17 will ruin pelts
@@raptorman6589 I heard the 20 gr fmj won’t tear them up as bad
Savage makes accurate stuff. Except those Chineseum shotguns they're pedalling as Savage/ Stevens. Makes me shake my head.
17 can take a coyote? Wow, such a tiny projectile - I’ve been wondering what people use it for
@@jeffroberts760 yeah. And bobcat, groundhogs or hedgehogs or whatever those little mofos are. It’s also super good for rabbit hunting which I plan on doing. It’s extremely flat shooting out to 300 yards and will easily drop a rabbit at that distance
Glock is a great product if you understand it's place in the market. As you said, it is the Honda Civic of the gun world. Relatively cheap, widely available, pretty much always reliable, and does what it is intended to do. Not the prettiest, not the best performing, but works when you need it.
And parts are available everywhere! Never forget without mags and ammo all you have is and expensive poorly shaped rock or club.
Love my remington 550-1 that shoots 22 L-S-LR. I was very accurate with it and squirrels had no chance
Great versatile gun. Picked one up in worn shape for $100 2 years ago. Shoots great.
I've got a Remington 511 that shoots 22, L-S-LR as well accurate and wonderful little 22
Do one with manual(bolt, lever, ss) firearms, as not everyone can get semi's. Thanks for the continued entertainment.
I love that ya include airguns... even a good springer does great yard n garden defence and small game without need for a compressor or hand pump. No need to keep only five for a homestead- but thats a great start!
Do a budget version of these videos like a single shot or over under 12 gauge a Taurus g3 that kinda stuff for people who are trying to put this together on a hurry or a budget
Absolutely love my Ruger 10/22 Charger pistol, lots of ways to accessorize them and a ton of fun. Very practical. I'm going to have to have an AK with a couple 75 round drums nearby on my list. Always a 12 gauge, Panzer AR12, 10 round mags with a mix of #00 buck and slugs
Happy Chad is back 😁👍. IV8888 for me is Chad and Eric. Only one of you feels like something is missing
As for a shotgun if there close enough to switch out from a ar to a 12 gauge the sheet has hit the fan. Shell loadout is key in 12 gauge. Bird shot for daily stuff then switch to yer 00 buck hunting rds. Plus you get the pucker factor of racking a shotgun
The big bore air rifle🤔 I might need one of those in my life!! I always learn something from your channel and when I fact check y’all seem right on the money! Thank you
Check out Tom Gaylord’s blog over at Pyramid Air. He has written about airguns for decades.
Hmmm... is pick a rugher 10/22, ar15, Remington 870, Remington 751 in 30-06, and a revolver in 357 for versatility. Wild card would be a Hawkins black powder rifle in 50cal
In my opinion not every gun needs to be tactical. That's a lot of money put into the gun that might not be necessary for a homesteaders needs.
He's ALIVE this is going to be awesome
walther ppq or similar
12 gauge shotgun (pump)
mini14/AR15 platform
Bolt preferably 308 or other 2506 and up depending on your reloading capability
Bypass the .22 rifle go for the 6 inch revolver with interchangable wheels, 22lr/22mag. (carry it with you while carrying a long gun, or even your 9mm incase squirrel / rabbit meat pops up)
Bonus points for a reloading press for shotguns.
exra bonus for reloading for bolt gun and shotgun.
Hello Gun Lovers and Patriots 🔥😎🇺🇸!
Yes, the M&P pass the Grand Tumb frozen test. The Glock froze and was unable to fire.
One more reason for me to be glad I live in Florida!
It's great that you mentioned a 22 rifle besides the Ruger 10-22 or the Marlin model 60, I own the 552 Speedmaster and the Marlin model 25, 25mn, excellent shooters.
The Benjamin Bulldog .357 is a bullpup pcp air rifle capable of punching clear through a deer sized animal.
I would love a DD in 6.5 in a WROL/Survival situation. My only 6.5 is a Bergara B14-BMP.
For many homesteaders bugging out is the last resort. When bugging out is the answer it is the only answer.
Ruger S/S 10/22, Tavor 7 in 308 or Galil in 308, M3 or double barrel 12 gauge, Ruger 380 MAX, 45 ACP with suppression. If you’re homesteading you are not bugging out. You are defending. Wild card a crossbow. Now the Reality Checklist- Ruger 10/22, Ruger 380 max, whatever deer rifle and 12 gauge shotgun you can get a good deal on. Wild Card- A large handgun you can wear on your hip and a machete.
You guys are the only gun channel that gives 22 it's recognition.
Homestead gun depends on where you live, in Alaska 30-06 or larger for Brown Bear.
@kevin pierson for large brown bear you need heavier bullet that you will not find loaded in a 308, seen bear absorb 3 220 grain rounds why I said 30-06 or larger, 338 win mag is better.

Eric and Chad, could you do the Top 5 Guns for the Modern Homesteader in the more restrictive states, like New York and California?
All these are nice & all but as Eric said you can do it without going "modern". Mossberg Maverick, Glock, M&P 15 sport 2, & Marlin 60, will all do just fine. Ain't got to go big or go home on the ole homestead.
Another great Top 5! I'd love to hear your thoughts on a Top 5 perfect pairs of primary carry pistol/backup carry pistol pair.
I used to carry a gun for work... my choice was a G19 on the hip and a 43 on my ankle... same ammo and very close operating parameters
im missing the old revolver, 357/38sp, its just the do it all gun
Love the V4. I switched recently from a bolt gun and got my first deer with this rifle. Not first deer ever. This V4 is sick
I would totally recommend a high-powered brake barrel air gun. You can buy an absolute butt ton of pellets and hunt anything in the small game range.
Definitely a good thing to have.
Edit-particularly if you're in an area where you worry about shooting a 22 or are in city limits or something. Good one will kill prarie dogs and similar size stuff. We get over run with chipmunks and it's perfect for that. We've shot hundreds of them. They'll destroy vehicles wiring
Really enjoyed this one guys! Nice seeing chad around!
Woo-hoo there's Chad. Welcome back.
🤘😎✌️
During the siege at Ruby Ridge, Randy Weaver's wife, Vicki; his 14-year-old son, Sammy; and U.S. Marshal William Degan were killed. The action provoked the dogs; Weaver's friend, Kevin Harris, and Weaver's 14-year-old son, Samuel ("Sammy"), emerged and followed the dog "Striker" to investigate.
Compressed airguns are OK in SOME states.
high point ... high point ... i know you love the high point ... very durable
😮😅😮😮
that wild card gave me an idea for a 5 guns video. Top 5 air guns that do not require CO2 or Compressed air. Alternate phrasing Top 5 pump, spring, or break action air guns capable of hunting and/or self defense. I would also be interested in a top 5 air guns for training video. I have gas powered replicas of my carry gun and defense carbine that I use for dry fire and manipulation practice but the rifle is in constant need of repair so knowing which brand of gas blowback airsoft guns hold up best would be very useful information.
I hang out in the gun store alot and I tell people all the time , a hipoint on the dresser is better than a glock on layaway... rip Barry 🙏
well said...Barry is still missed
That’s incredibly short sighted considering there’s a lot of quality options in between the $150 meme gun and the $600 Glock.
I’d rather have a sharp stick than the high point I couldn’t get rid of quick enough
I gotta hi point a ever ready plastic flash light a icepick and a Ebt card I'm good dawg.....lol😆😅🤣😉
😜😜
1. A .22lr single action revolver as a dispatch/varmint carry gun
2. A 12/20 gauge shotgun for birds and bears
3. AR15, preferably a precision setup in 5.56 or .300 for predators and home defense, and a .22lr upper for small game and recreation
4. Concealed carry pistol of your choice
5. Bolt action rifle for hunting
I think a 7.62x39 bolt gun should be on every homesteader's wall. Light, handy, effective to 200m and beyond as well as the most common small arms cartridge on the planet.
Agreed, love the short bolt action. Unfortunately CZ has discontinued theirs and prices have gone thru the roof. My list of 5 definitely contains something in 7.62 x 39, SKS or AK. Definitely smart to stay with the most abundant ammo. My list contains two handguns as well.
Would be cool to see a top 5 on small bore or big bore air rifles if you guys don't already have one or two

Mossberg maverick 88 12 gauge (or any shotgun)

@@rx7enjoyer240 what makes you say that.
@@jacec5504 first hand experience with the platform and from what I’ve seen from others.
@@rx7enjoyer240 okay well I esthetically like the ruger mini series but I’ve yet to own one but I have heard of some issues. I know the magazines aren’t always reliable. I like the mini 14 as a homestead rifle
Much better options now they just don’t hold up with rifles today. They also seem to be finicky.

My choice is m1a , Minnie 14 , 10-22 , 870 , and mp40 and wild card is marlin 1895
My reason for all these guns is they don't look tactical but they work when needed in the hunting / homestead defense
Mini 14 sucks
News videos working fine, very helpful the way they are and appreciate it 👍
Your videos are getting better and more interesting
All good choices, but I think I would have a wheel gun in either .357 or .44 mag (could hunt with it or run.44 specials) if I only had one handgun. If two, then a H&R 9-shot .22lr or similar.
Awesome video next u should do a video on old school home stead firearms like double barrel shotguns and lever action 30 30 or 45/ 70
Wild card candidate: A drilling.
Two guns in one. Extremely versatile. Best choice for shooting whatever you come across in the woods.
Sadly much more of an uncommon class nowadays, at least in the sense of ones you or I could afford out of pocket. The ones I see all pop up at $1200+ easy. Not exactly viable for many self-reliant men, to be sure.
Extremely expensive and rare outside of Europe to boot.
Hey fellas it very good to see you!!!
Lived a long time on a farm with a model 10 s&w, nylon 66, and an 870.
CHAD!!!! Good to see 'ya again! Missed you brother.
On the .22 side, you could also buy the S&W M&P15 which has all the same AR functions as an AR. Love mine and with a decent scope it is also very accurate.
Why not a 10mm hand gun for hog, bear and two legged critters? Seams like a 10mm would serve more multi roles.
Always good to have a chad in a gun video, keep it up
I drove a Honda Civic for 8 yrs. It’s a big compliment.
A .22 handgun with rat shot for the snakes around the farm is one of my musts. Other than that a hunting rifle, a rifle to defend your home, a shotgun, and a CCW handgun are the 5 that I would have.
I'm buying Marlin model 60 .22s for $125 to $150 JM built with LSHO and micro-groove long barrel 19rnd capacity.
Got the Henry Long Ranger Express, and that's my goto rifle here on the farm.
I have been wanting one so bad!
