- Something a little different today, we're taking a look back at the beginnings of the layout. We'll flashback four years to the very beginning of the layout and see an overview and the initial building. Great view back and a reminder how far we have come!

From bare bones to current operating layout in four years! You've brought it a long way. You've also reinforced the saying that "a model railroad is never done" with all of your tweaks, changes and additions. (I remember when Shasta Beverage was a cardboard box.) Congratulations.
It's amazing how much bigger a simple backdrop makes the layout feel! In the older video, where you can see the entire layout at once, it doesn't look much bigger than a 4x8 "Christmastime" layout. Divide it up into separate scenes, where you can't see everything all at once, and the same layout looks and feels much, much larger.
I totally agree!
I've been enjoying your layout videos for the last couple years ! Watching this one from 4 years ago was great , and gave me some insight into your vision. Thank you for inspiring me to come up with an operating scheme for my own layout. As always , looking forward to your next video !
Keep up the UP! It’s great!
I watched a few of your older videos from 3 years ago and man, your layout has come along way. Nice job Rick.
I've been looking at your older videos, enjoy seeing how you develop your layout, very nice!
Always fun to look back. Liked it.
Wow!! How time flies . Its great to go back and actually see all the progress you made on your layout. Thanks for doing that and I hope I can do the same with mine one day. Thanks again.
crazy progress
You've come a long way in 4 years. Looking back really puts into perspective just how much has changed and evolved.
Flashback format was a great idea! Thanks for taking me back to the beginning, I feel like I'm caught up now. You really came a long way in 4 years!
Good stuff!
I really enjoyed seeing what the current layout evolved from. Stay COOOOOL!
Use compressed a lot in 4 years you've come a long way baby 👍👍
Great update , lots of work completed
Thanks 👍
Gee Rick i thought you made this whole thing up,Great stuff
Hey nice Flashback you did a lot of changes in 4yrs and as always great video Rick 😊from Ohio
Hi Rick & it's is Randy and i like yours video is Cool & Thanks Rick & Friends Randy
I know hot too. We're in the lowcountry of South Carolina. 90+ degree days with humidity to match.
Found this really interesting. Being a map freak too. I wish this stuff was available when I planned my layout. Southern Wine
was one of my customers, and I'd talked to the lady charge about a site visit to check out rail service. Same with Tamco steel out
in Fontana. Had some great customers. (GE in Erie being one, wink) That Terrazzo place, I think was connected with a stone
shipper on the old D&RGW Montrose branch. It was short lived and I think* most of that stone went east.
A question for you Rick, was there a reason you chose not to model the pool supply place there at Los Nuts? I assume* it's still there. They used to get Chlorine tank cars (which Atlas makes) would add switching there. I think there was that and another place alongside the yard that would go right along your backdrop there. Just food for thought. (More places to switch lol) Cheers, Was a very interesting and useful vid.
I have considered making the two track at the yard an industry
Should have kept In-N-Out on the layout
You must have sold or traded off engines and cars as a BNSF Geep AND CP boxcsars. quite a few changes in original plan.
I still have them, just waiting to dcc the locos and maybe do a backdated run.
