Whoever had that bird previously for 28 years, really loved him and took very good care of him. This lady is extremely fortunate (and so is Doobie)!

@@secretagent86 Yes, that was my thoughts as well. Many people don't realize the long life-span of parrots. Once I hit 50 I was hesitant to even get a puppy.

They know so much. Wild birds do. I've interacted with forest Raven all my life, I know when danger is around, the Ravens tell me, and dogs communicate with Ravens

Well this is your introduction to birds of the Parrot 🦜 family. As you are finding out, they are highly intelligent 🤓 and yes full of personality. Over 350 species of which cockatoos are represented with white sometimes pinkish plumage and distinctive crest, make cockatoos unique amongst Other Parrot species. Large Parrots like cockatoos and macaws have very long life expectancies akin to that of humans sometimes outliving their human companions. Their intelligence is estimated to that of a human child of 3-5 years old. Hopefully this inspires you to learn more about these unique and very special birds.

I have gotten so used to cockatoos mimicking human speech and their entertaining moves, but the sounds and head movements from brushing teeth was a new trick to me. Must be the funniest thing I have seen today. Thank you for the chuckles.

I have a cockatoo that is 34 years old. Looks the same as he did when I brought him home at 4 months. One thing with birds is they don't show age.

It’s called a crest. All cockatoo Parrots have them. They express their emotions by raising and lowering their crest when trying to convey the way they are feeling.
When I see such a lovely interaction between animals and humans I feel so amazed and happy! We can have Paradise here if we stop fighting!

28 years? Wow, how long do they live? That's awesome! He's adorable. I've learned a lot by watching videos like these. Like how birds do have unique personalities and are much smarter than I ever thought.
Large Parrots like cockatoos have very long life spans, in some cases outliving their human companions. 80- 100 years for some cockatoos,Amazons and macaws. They are a life time commitment, like adopting a human child. They are highly intelligent.

Dr. Irene Pepperberg calls Parrots feathered primates. They are highly intelligent and have great personalities. They require lots of interaction with their human companions as they are very social animals that bond strongly to their human caretakers. Don’t get a Parrot of any kind if you can’t provide this attention. They are a life time commitment.

Seeing a bird with its wings slightly out and wiggling them when they want to go somewhere is my weakness. The first bird I ever had was a neglected Jenday Conure that hung from one of the cage bars by his beak and did that when I had to leave the rescue for the day. Something about the wing shaking is just so precious.

There's this sulfur crested cockatoo that shows up on my balcony and walks in like he owns the place sometimes. I'm guessing the bloke that lived here for 25 years before me made friends with it first.

That someone addressed the fact birds wear pants just kills me, I cant unsee it!! And its true, they "wear" their feathers in different positions or dare I say, "outfits" so they do look different at various times. Our birds had shorts, pants and skirts or kilts!😆

How do you potty train these birds? Or can you? I think it's wonderful to have someone take over that can love your animal as much as you did if and when you can no longer do it (due to death or possibly some very unforseen situation). These birds live a very long time. circumstances

Well the comment the bird was with its previous owner for 28 years cought me off guard. My lapso Apso was 10 years old when I got him and he made it to 18 so our pets can live longer then there family is very real !
I have a 18 year old cornsnake and two Pallas Glass Lizards who'll live to 50 years or so. Tuatara can manage 150 years plus (think a green bearded dragon with three eyes, three sets of teeth that reproduce in their 20s).
but u cant compare a dog to a parrot lol ~18 for a dog is very old.
a parrot will live to ~75yrs old and its very common because of that fact that they are on wills

@@pretense101 Yeah,it's frightening to think an an animal can outlive you and you not have control over where they go afterwards, how they'll be treated or how they'll emotionally deal with losing you as their parent. Losing a 28 plus year bond has to be tough for highly Intelligent birds.
Large Parrots like cockatoos can live a very long time akin to human years and may even outlive humans. Not unusual to hear of macaws, Amazons or cockatoos that reach 100 years or more. Most people are ignorant or ilinformed and know next to nothing about Parrots in general. So I understand your Schock of learning parrots can live so long. They’re not your average dog or cat. They’re highly intelligent, so they’re on a much different level.
