  • The day is finally here! We have been enjoying our European Roadtrip by campervan so far but I admit we've been counting down the days to cross by ferry from Spain to Morocco with our campervan and settle in to Morocco for the winter!
    We had a fantastic crossing (the most PERFECT day for it!) and a wonderful welcome from everyone we met in Morocco on our first day.
    Thanks for watching! :)

    so amazing how so many different countries neighbouring each other, sharing borders, yet the cultures and languages are so different from each other. makes you realise how truly isolated we are in NZ, at the bottom of the world

      Its really not thaaat different..there are most definately similarities, food for instance(without the porc in Morocco) Moroccan food has in many aspects its origins also in Islamic Iberia or Al Andalus. During this time the area known as "Morocco" today and Iberia have been one for 800 years. This was not the first interactions between both sides. There has been contsct before 8000 years. During the Roman era there was a tied bond between both sides too. Lets also not forget the geneflow between both sides of the mediterranean. North Africans show besides North Africa (=Berber/Amazigh/Mediterranean ancestry, )most of the times Iberia in their DNA results too and vice versa. I have also seen many Italian results with traces of North Africa. Still mediterranean tho. Also the dominant maternal haplogroup in Morocco, Algeria, Tunesia and to a certain extent Libya is mtdna H1 and H3(besides the indigenous mtdna=U6 and a sister of European U5) This H maternal lineage is identical like the maternal lineage(also this H variant) found in Iberia. So its really not thaaat different. It could ofc appear so due to religious differences or that peoples assume that North Africans are Arabs by blood. This is not the case

      @@MariaNI-yf1bz interesting, thanks for sharing. i've only been to 3 countries in Europe (Spain, Italy and France), all seem very different to me (i'm from nz, so very isolated - the concept of sharing a border with another country feels quite foreign to me); no countries in Africa (yet)

    • @MariaNI-yf1bz
      @MariaNI-yf1bz Рік тому +1

      @@marias8007 hello Maria..No worries. I can imagine why people would think it could be totally different. Its because of the use of constructed concepts like "Africa" and "Europe" and "Muslim" vs "Christianity". Some people could therefor get the wrong impression that these modern concepts are isolated clusters with no overlaps, while North Africa(Berbers and Egyptians) was really not that isolated and has been in contact with the rest of the mediterranean since day 1..sort to speak. Since day 1, with other words the first people to enter this part of Africa, 45.000 bp, via the near East, replacing a neanderthal like human species(Aterians) came from the same family or source populations as those earliest humans who entered Europe via the near East/Ancient Anatolia and responsible for the ancestries in modern day Europe. There is genetic continuity till this day in North Africa. Ancestries like Early European Farmers, Iberia Neolithic, Natufians of the Levant are all shared between the mediterranean populations. They, incl Middle eastern people, all belong therefor to the same "west Eurasian" cluster and this explains also why North Africa, who are indigenous to Africa, for instance are different from the rest of Africa or Africa belong the Sahara and not because they are "Arabs" or "European" remnants. So "Africa" is really not that isolated and in fact extremely diverse. I hope i didnt bore you with this info..hahaha..Have a good day🌻🌻☘️☘️☘️

    Morocco is just magical for kids. A couple of tips: Chefchaouen is a must- see because it is beautiful. And dress warm especially towards the evening because it does get cold.

      @AwaywiththeSteiners  Рік тому

      Hi there you can’t refill gas bottles of any kind here except bottles from Morocco. You will need to buy a gas bottle here or bring enough with you from UK. We have written a whole post about that 😊 But it is very easy once here! And yes to electric hook ups at some campsites.
