I was at David’s concert when David told about the history of writing this song. Maggie Beth was with him and she sang this song. It was a very moving concert & some tears at that the same time. She has a beautiful voice and so does her sister.
David wrote the song before Maggie Beth was born put it away when she started singing he knew she was the person to sing the song, and what a magnificent job she does, brings me to tears whenever I hear it, she's inherited his "pipes"😁 but has also learnt from him how to deliver a song, great performance👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾♥️
How could you possibly know that? I think he wrote it after he realized her talent. I'm pretty sure that Phelpsy and Laurie were just trying to make it... Waaaay before that song happened. Thank you, Mark Lowery for discovering Phelpsy, and bringing him to Birmingham to sing o holy night.

David wrote it many years ago and put it in his piano bench until he found the right vocalist. He said he finally realized he knew the perfect vocalist for it . . . Maggie Beth. What I'd give to have a look at what remains "in his piano bench" that we have yet to be blessed by. Blessings
This is a song David wrote before Maggie Beth was born. He put it in the piano bench for years waiting for the right person to sing it.
This was filmed in David’s barn during the Covid lock down. The whole Stories and Songs Vol one was a Covid “what do I do with the time off.-- let’s make a video”!
Sunday night performance of Labor Day barn bash, Maggie Beth sang this while David was sitting 5 feet behind her. Watching David’s expressions and body language during her stellar performance was definitely something special!❤

Hunter Spivey is playing piano. And "Tennessee" is not a new song, but David released a new lyric video of it today. "Tennessee" was on the "Family Band" album around 2010 or 2011, I think. The setting is the old dairy barn on the Phelps Pharm which David converted into a concert venue. He holds events there called "Barn Bashes." He just had this year's Labor Day Barn Bash. My sister and I attended as we have for years. It was beyond description---two days of concerts by David singing so many of his fabulous songs, many of which he hasn't done in a long time. He brings them out for the Barn Bashers.

I watch the show The Chosen. Season 6 will be 7 episodes of one day - Jesus' trials & crucifixion and all that surrounds that. It will be a heart breaking season. And the woman who plays Mother Mary, well - I can only imagine her portrayal at the foot of the cross with John. These people & the characters they portray have become so real... Mostly because the 7 seasons allows for such character development. They're only filming Season 5 and people - including the actors - are already dreading S6. The music in the show is absolutely amazing, but this song would bless the world as part of that last episode of S6. It's absolutely heart rendering. 😢

This could not have been a better acknowledgement of who Mary was in relation to the Son of God. She was a humbled maiden, who accepted the mission God asked of her through His Angel. She asked for no high position for accepting it, or how she would be able to endure the humility of the situation. Joseph was asked by the Angel of God in a dream to stand by her, and he did. How hard it must have been for Mary to trust this would work out. How hard it must have been for her to watch her Son Crucified.
I think about how Mark Lowry talked about the questions she had to be facing in her mind when he wrote the song "Mary Did You Know?" As always Mark had a comical connotation about her situation. He said on his comedy DVD "REMOTELY CONTROLLED", I wonder what was going through her mind at the time? She couldn't go to her mother and say to her " God did this", but he wrote the words to the song as if he were asking Mary if she really knew these things about Jesus. It turned out to be a very powerful song as well. Buddy Greene co-wrote the song with him because, as Mark said, he couldn't read music, and you really shouldn't be writing music if you can't read it, lol. I wonder also, as Dennis said, if that song had any influence on the writing of " He's Still MY Child"? It's for sure that Mark Lowry, David Phelps and Maggie Beth Phelps have been Ordained by God to present the meanings, emotions and blessings of these and other Christian Songs.
Thankyou for sharing your reaction to this song Dennis. One would have to be cold hearted not to be truly moved by not only the words and music, but by Maggie's presentation of it. I know I am moved to tears every time I hear it.
