Actually, when Miyam auditioned for BBT, it was for a one time spot, the famous blind date scene. However, the directors, casting, etc. noticed that she had a PhD on the bottom of her resume' under "miscellaneous" and were intrigued by it. From that point, they wrote a whole character for her and kept her on.
Fun fact, the Big Bang Theory by end of season three originally meant to be a plot twist, where Sheldon and Penny got together by the end of season 4. But the executives doesn't want to risk moving from an exiting sitcom formula (I did a subject regarding screen writing during my undergraduate, the movie and TV industry in the west are very conservative and reluctant to move away from a formula, this is why in all the movies, especially romance stories you can kind of predict what is going to happen next. There are very little creativity.) Leonard, Penny and Sheldon was based on three of the producer's friends in their 20s, over 20 years ago and similar thing happen friend A is very affectionate towards a girl, but the girl like his friend, friend B. But friend B stood aside, for his friend. Friend A and the girl started dating, but feelings still develop over time between the girl and friend B. Penny, Sheldon and Leonard was originally suppose to be based on this love triangle. But, the executives doesn't want a love triangle in a sitcom, so they scratch the idea. That is why by season 3, they had a lot of episode focus on Penny and Sheldon's friendship. That friend B was much like Sheldon also, he had asperger syndrome, those people are really smart, but handicap in their ability to read emotions. So, they are very withdraw from the dating scene, because they easily freak out girls they just met, as a result. In the real life version, the girl and friend B eventually got married. It was very odd because the girl and friend A were very compatible, but the girl and friend B are very wrong for each other. Everybody expect them to get divorce, but they are still married 20 years later.

I'll be honest, Leonard as a character got more and more pathetic and less and less likeable as the episodes go on, the actor did a good job! but the character itself, for me he was kinda the opposite of Sheldon, while Sheldon seemed to grow and get better when it comes to some of his issues, and build more close bonds aswell as loosen himself up a little bit at least, Leonard became more whiny, annoying, a bit controlling and apparently a cheater, also everytime him and penny would hint on getting together I would have the same reaction "Aaaaah not this fresh hell again..."
@Christopher Hought I think it was just the pilot episode and they needed time to figure out the characters. Especially Sheldon. It’s pretty common to have characters change drastically after the pilot. Look at Kramer from Seinfeld in the pilot episode to every episode after. I think he even knocked.
Raj was the most socially inept of the entire group. Put frankly, he was simply too stupid to maintain a health relationship ... very much an idiot-savant ...
People stay single sometimes. I find it refreshing that not everyone ended up tied up. Not everyone finds a steady realtionship during that time in their life.
This was shocking and amazing! I followed the series from beginning to end, because I was always a nerd, scientist, and the crew was totally like my tiny circle of friends from college. I'm truly impressed with the writers (one of the only shows where the science is real and not ignorant technobabble), and the delivery by the actors. They all nailed it!

I agree. I love the unique characters. The character development in addition to the writing was brilliant. It ended strong too. I love how it went from being all about Penny and Leonard and then shifted to Sheldon stealing the spotlight with his relationship with Amy. The one who didn't care about chasing girls ends up achieving his life long dream of winning the Nobel Prize with his wife. Such a strong ending and well executed touch.
I guess if I was an actor and was so lucky to play a beloved character who has an obsession with something like Star Trek and I'd notice how many other people do, I'd be interested enough to at least watch a few episodes.

the differene between a great actor and a line spitter is Sheldon. For someone who know zero about science that character is absolutely believable.

@@RA-lh9uh absolutely not. Not because it actual science doesn't make the character believable at all. Many actors are just not very good so even if what they are saying is true the character itself is just hard to watch.
