      @@imdone5331 The fact that you see alot of 30-40 yr old Toyotas and Hondas still on the road are a testament of their durability and reliability. You can't really blame Filipinos for choosing brands with good reputation. I'm actually rooting for MG and Geely. More competition the better for us consumers.

    Considered the MG5 Alpha, Vios G and The City RS for some time. Ended up with the RS got it a few days ago. No regrets. Best of both worlds Vios reliability, comfort and parts availability plus MG5 refinement. But I have to admit the MG5 has many features that I wish my RS had.

    Toyota is a boring brand, my family would always get a toyota badge. When it's time to get my own car I thought of buying a different brand as each segment has the same price range and toyota without any cool stuff making it the most expensive of all. In the end I got a toyota, its now 7 years without replacing anything except from the wipers, bulbs, break pad, fluids, battery and still runs like the day I bought it.
    Most people go to Toyota just for the peace of mind for a very long time, and mind you... Peace of mind is priceless.

    It's IMO "easy" to slap tech inside cars and still have a cheap price tag since electronics are quite cheap these days. But when it comes to the important stuff like the transmission, the engine, reliability and having parts available on the same day instead of waiting for months...the choice is quite obvious. But if you're not planning on keeping the car beyond 5yrs, the MG might be a better choice. Resale value is going to be a lot lower though

    Just a prediction. I think the car market in the Philippines will have the same outcome as the smartphone market. A ton of cheap Chinese cars with more features will start appearing. Filipino locals will doubt the quality of the cars at first. But after a few years, these Chinese cars would be more frequent on the roads, due to the availability of cheap parts and multiple dealers that provide service. It's like how Chinese smartphone companies like Vivo, Oppo, Realme, Xiaomi, 1+, and Infinix take most of the Philippine Smartphone market share. Japanese, Korean, and Western manufacturers should act fast if they don't want their dominance in the Philippine car market to plummet. More car features with a cheaper price might save their foothold here.

      agree 100%. I own an MG5 for 6 months, the experience was amazing.

    • @streamingvideo6654
      @streamingvideo6654 3 роки тому +6

      But then again Chinese cars aren't cheap, they're priced the same as the competition. They should undercut the competition by at least 20% price-wise. Chinese phones did that by offering "high-end" features on their sub-15k phones whereas their competition sell for 20k and up. But they were able to do it because of their manufacturing and supply chain prowess. Can they do the same with cars? Also, many car buyers still use cars for "status symbol" and that requires brand heritage and prestige, which the Chinese, Indian, Russian cars, etc. do not have (yet). Smartphones are easier to buy than cars, so people are more frequent to try new brands. You'd have to shell out at least 500k for a new car, and in that case it won't be easy for people to risk it. It's true for electronics that more features usually means better, but not for the car market, especially for the frugal ones and financially smart buyers who'd like to keep a car for at least 10 years with less visits to the casa. In contrast, most car brands operating in the US or other countries offer their cars with better specs or equipment. Compare a US-spec Civic vs. a PH-spec or any model, and the one from US will come out with better value. The question is, why can't it be done in the PH?

    • @ajing00
      @ajing00 3 роки тому +2

      @@streamingvideo6654 Answer, they know the market. Some markets like US, you need to provide better feature to be competitive. Here, "Toyota yan, Honda yan! Maganda yan!". Our market that relies too much on brand recognition doesn't foster healthy competition for the known brand to try. Why would they? even if they offer inferior products it will sell like hot cakes anyways. Most Chinese(or china-made) brands have proven themselves in other countries, and they actually offer almost the same feature here as well, so why undermine their tenure? Because it's china? MG has been around longer than toyota and what they offer is actually from their main lineup. Vios is not even from Toyota Japan.

They heavily emphasize on how the car looks, how loaded it is with features we dont even need in the first place, how shiny the paint is, how one car with a sunroof is better than one that hasn’t. What is the most important is how reliable it is, how easy and how cheaply it is to maintain, how it will hold up over time, the quality of the parts, the engine, the transmission. Will it last with minimal amount of maintenance. I mean, what is the number one functionality of a car? To get you from point A to point B. I understand what you're trying to imply but in all honesty, it feels a little bit misleading to state that having additional features and techs at your disposol compromises the value of the car. Well, this is mainly due to the fact that these "techs" actually aids to your safety and driving comfort, and no, it doesn't cause that much headache since some of these features are never going to interefere with your driving, not unless you activated it manually which is very reasonable. To add, these techs and features are far more superior from what was introduced before, securing little to no errors or bugs that may cause such headaches or problems in the future since ECUs(Computer Boxes in Automobiles) nowadays are also getting more and more refined, and should there be any issues are easily fixable through your local dealership (Casa). Ironically, the standards of automobile value today are usually based on the features and tech to price ratio, given how tight the competition is in the industry of automobiles. Now, I'm not implying not to buy techie cars, actually what you said is true, it aids comfort and safety but these technology as I've said sometimes causes both your head and your pocket. Yeah. I was kind of hesitant too to get the MG5 because reliability,durability and longevity is not proven. I’ve taken the risk and let’s see how it goes haha. So far the after sales is quite good and you will not pay a cent on maintenance for a year, then you will pay for the consumables if there are any need for change but the labor is free. Spare parts though is quite an issue. Most of the parts are available only on casa. And you are lucky if you get the part you need in a week. I’ve read that some waited for about two months in order to get the parts they needed. Maybe due to pandemic. So far I’m happy and the MG5 has not failed me. Hopefully it will not haha
      Agree that this should be included in reviews and discussions. Most of the reviews out there only review the looks and specs but not these other factors.

    Some car buyers these days don't really keep their cars for 5 to 6 years, so it's okay to buy these new Chinese brands because they offer better value and power. We just bought a Vios last December and it's okay, very basic, not an exciting car, but does the job of getting you from point A to B. But, I feel like we will be selling it after 5 years despite being designed to last over a decade.

      @@johnyonardpauly5601 Yes it depends on the financial capability. Also noticed that there are more new cars on the road today than 90s and early 2000s cars. More people are driving the newer vios and 3rd gen than the 2nd and 1st gen which means some really disposed of their old Vios rather than keeping them for more than a decade. It's kinda like Singapore where you don't see old cars because they only allow a maximum of 10 years to keep a vehicle, but some people are okay at changing cars every 5 years.
