I could not count the amount of times we went over the water regain tank in training, some fails and cold dips until we perfected the exact execution the Royal did in this video.
I don't understand what that guy's doing ? You've done the hardest part getting you're legs back on . Just lift you're arm over the rope and swing like the RQMS showed him. I should know, did the Commando Course many years ago !! Reason to talk , not trying to show off but don't forget to pass Bottom Field tests it's with 22lb webbing and weapon after 30 ft rope climb , assault course and 200m fireman carry , he was in clean fatigues !!
Well seen as that's at lympstone I'd of been very surprised if the marine didn't do it as he will of done it a million times in training. I did this when I was 19 on the same course and proud to say I was one of 2 out of 20 that managed it.
Yes. They will all try, and yet, try as they may, none shall pass. Quite simply. The Regain is a door to which the lock can't be picked. It can only be opened by its own special kind of key. That key is called 'Technique'. Without it, even the world's best ten gymnasts cannot successfully complete it correctly, any other way but, the only way. Learn from a Royal Marine, and enjoy plain sailing. [I don't beg your pardon for the pun] 😏
redmotive it’s not designed to be applied in a combat scenario. It’s an obstacle crossing drill. If you find yourself across a rope whilst in contact you have bigger issues than falling off
redmotive because not every task you undertake as a Royal Marine involves being in direct combat. I.e crossing an obstacle like a static line over a river...
Oi fella, it was a spur of the moment thing when he came in my office and said he wanted to be a PTI, so I said I would forward your chit if you can do a regain. I didn’t have a clue that anyone was videoing it, and I went up there to teach him the technique, but I was a bit late or he let go a bit early 🤷🏻♂️
I hadn’t done a regain for 17 years before this day, I went up there to help him and talk him through the technique but he obviously fell off. I was his boss and before he left he managed a few regains no problems 👍
Yeah looks fun, good thing the Infantry don't bother with this, were too busy trying to save the world, good try Navy but leave it to the experts eh lol.
Its obviously easier being under the rope than above it so common sense would suggest to me that pissing away time trying to "regain" the rope is time...pissed away.
As a young marine in 1953 I recall doing all ropes, regains etc in fighting order and rifle. If you did'nt succeed you got back squadded and did all the course again.
No, you'd run out of strength and endurance trying to get across that rope on the underside. If not on the rope section, but later on in the assault course. The regain allows you to recover from the underside.
The marines call the gravy and also the RAF a taxi service. Marines have no love for either of the branches, the only people that they like in the RAF are the rock apes.

Ive been in that tank at night and its fuckin freezin

Well, at least the Navy had a nice day for it.

Wow, I thought everyone had to complete a regain to pass the RMC course?
Watch Ryder it was done on a week in the life of a RM. basically an insight to the RMs
Apart from the Tank water looking slightly cleaner…..it looks the same as in 1974 PMPT
Don’t know why the RN guy didn’t use his left arm over the rope, that’s how they trained me to do it when i joined.
The instructor was telling him this but he didn't listen

when we was duty troop my mate got tanked for refusing to go into the pti staff room to help clean it hahah
Really? Bollocks, with that grammar you were never a serving marine.....Walter.

What's the point of this exercise?
redmotive to regain your position atop the rope should you fall off

Well done Royal.
I remember that tank! Salute the Queen? Yes I did.
Good job... but!!.. I would say the RQMS needs to visit the tank for using his momentum to get back on the rope....
And he forgot his webbing and rifle !

How come the navy don't get taught how to regain?
Because there’s no practical use for them in practising the regain for their primary purpose.
They do if they are attempting the All Arms Cdo course..
Jii

Easier ontop. Get the regain right its no problem.

No....you would burn out much quicker trying to cross 'under' the rope.Especially if you had to do it repeatedly.
Aren’t the marines part of the navy
Yes you are right, but you try telling a Royal Marine that, there has always been a healthy competition between them, but brothers in arms always.
