  • Interview with Japan’s legendary artist, who has been painting polka dots ever since she started as an artist. In this video she talks about one of her works, a light installation depicting her cosmic vision.
Yayoi Kusama (b 1929) is the most important contemporary artist living in Japan today. In this video she talks about her life, how her parents were against her becoming an artist and how she decided to go to New York because she wanted to compete with the best artists. She also describes her working process and how she is always surprised by the result.
Interview by Christian Lund, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, London, February 2011.
    Interview filmed by: Matthias Pilz.
Kusama's installation filmed by Martin Kogi.

I wish I could experiment the sensation of being in an infinite room someday. Wondering. How does it feel to be surrounded by polka dots and bright colors? Indeed. Those installations look as the cosmos.

I really think it evokes some particular emotion, that I can't really express. I was pretty lucky to see some of her work in real. It is amazing.

perhaps the universality of us all. we all share this planet, these colors, and we all suffer sometimes.
stay strong and persevere thru your hardships. that gives maximum respect to this miraculous existence

I think it's an effort to dot the galaxies 100 000 000 000 stars to reach the galaxy core where there are some strange details. Acually there are 4 of them. They look a lot like Yaoi's diagrams. I'm handicapped by my mental approach as well and i think that this approach is the way to become free.

Ну что за бред, что это за картины, можно подумать что она просто больна. Раскрашивать голых мужиков и обалдеть от этого. Нарисовала горошком ах как красиво, вы что с ума все сходите.
