I named my daughter Charlotte Ryan, and even my best friend hated it, and you should have heard the things that I have been told about my son's name (I am 17 weeks pregnant) when I revealed the name Henry. I LOVE Macey Gaines, I am also from the South and I completely understand your traditions!
I'm from the north but go to school in TN and I just loved how almost everyone I met down there had a double name or a unique name - and I love all the monograms, of course! Macey Gaines is so adorable. I love how Gaines sounds like such a strong name and how unique it is, she will go so far in life! I just started following y'all's journey and love it so much. I love that the name has strong family ties... I like that it is unique, without being "younique" (you know those names with really off the wall spellings, just to be different)... I don't like the name at all, but it's not my child, so I don't have to. It's your baby, and you get to name her. You are giving her a name that means something to you and your family and you love it. That is all that matters.

I'm pregnant right now and get hurt pretty easily when people make negative comments about our favorite names. Hearing you guys talk about her name has helped me feel more confident in our decision, so thank you for that. 1) I knew someone in high school who went by her middle name...well, a shortened version (Casey instead of Cassandra). Now though, I think she goes by a shortened version of her first name (Gabby). Ironically enough, she was born and raised in Texas. 2) Thank you for giving more info on where Gaines came from. I think it's a touching tribute to family that may not be around any more. I had never heard Gaines before y'all announced her name. It is unique to me at least. (For what it's worth, if we were able to have another child, I would seriously find a way to use both my in-laws names in the childs name. Because they passed away within a couple days of each other, I think it would be a touching tribute and story for when the child was older.) 3) To all the haters: Hush. Not your baby, not your choice. When y'all have kids of your own, name them the way you want (though I'm sure you'll get some flack for what you choose as well). Really, it all comes down to what they choose to call her and then what she likes to be called when she is old enough to understand and say "no, I want you to call me ." Also, if you can't say anything nice (or at least in a respectful way), don't say anything at all.
There's always going to be people out there who are negative Nancy's as my mom calls them. No one liked the name Oliver Scott that we picked for our son. But my husband and I literally didn't give a crap. By the time he was born everyone loved it. No one had the right to knock a name that a parent chooses especially parents that have been waiting a long time and been on a long journey to meet their miracle blessing. Everyone has different brains and likes and dislikes. You feel connected to the name and how it fits together for YOUR daughter. I personally love it. But I'm from the south and live in the same state and possibly close to your city since we have met once. Macey Gaines is a beautiful unique name that will be somebody some day. Powerful unique name. Hey guys! When I was in study abroad in college (in the middle ages) I discovered that people in West Africa will often times go by their middle names. Being from NYC, I had no idea that anyone ever would do such a thing. I'm Natalie Elizabeth and people who would see my name written out over there would say "Well, what do you go by, Natalie or Elizabeth?" I remember being so baffled, like, what a ridiculous question. Natalie is in the front, I go by Natalie. Haha, what a culture shock for me, I learned to really see the comedy in the cultural difference and would sometimes tell people, "you pick!" LOL. I like the name you chose because I like it when girls have somewhat masculine names, it's really cute.
Wow, surprised at how upset you guys are. Seems like most the vlog was spent telling the people they were ridiculous and to "shove it", and criticizing them, being sarcastic and almost rude about it. I get there are haters and trolls but disappointing to see that much time and attitude spent on the small percentage of negative comments. I get it. I wouldn't like those comments made about my name choices. I was just going back and reading the comments from the name reveal expecting to see some hateful things, and while there were a few outright rude ones...I think most were honest (and yes, unsolicited) reactions to an unusual name. Most of us have been made fun of as a kid as as a sore spot, a first thought when it comes to names. I was just surprised to hear some of the things you said (like how they don't have to watch your channel and how you don't really care what they think) and see how sarcastic and negative you guys were in return (saying some people in the comments had weird names). I just don't want to invite anyone to criticize a name that my husband and I love! Amen!! Gaines is a wonderful and unique name. I named my oldest son Orion. I still remember when I announced his name at my babyshower and everyone looked at me like I was crazy. People honestly told me that they hated it and didn't like it all. I was crushed but stuck to it...because that was the name that I liked. Now he's almost 12 and nobody could image him as anything else. He's 100% an Orion and people actually tell him all the time they love his name...and most importantly HE loves his name. :o) Gaines is awesome!!

I do love the flow of Macey Gaines. My dad's last name is Sells and he is a regional sales manager, who uses to be a salesman. Can you imagine the jokes my whole family got? Lol. We lived! I love the name Macey Gaines. It is a very southern name which fits for ya'll. I have always gone by my middle name just because Phillip Brandon flows better than Brandon Phillip. It is VERY common to go by your middle name in the south.

I'm from Boston and both Macey AND Gaines are unusual names where I'm from. But where I live, we also have a very large melting pot of people from different regions and countries so unusual names and strong "differences of opinion" are pretty common around here. At times, what may seem harsh to others, doesn't even read on our radar screen as such. In short, try not to see those differences of opinion as NEGATIVE. Try viewing them as just differences and don't let'em stick to ya. Many congrats on your baby name choice and thanks for the explanation on how you chose it. Very interesting and cool!

Just came across this video! My name is Anna Katherine and my parents (especially my mom) wanted me to go by both names. Through my middle school days I decided I liked Anna K better. 1) I knew someone in high school who went by her middle name...well, a shortened version (Casey instead of Cassandra). Now though, I think she goes by a shortened version of her first name (Gabby). Ironically enough, she was born and raised in Texas.
2) Thank you for giving more info on where Gaines came from. I think it's a touching tribute to family that may not be around any more. I had never heard Gaines before y'all announced her name. It is unique to me at least. (For what it's worth, if we were able to have another child, I would seriously find a way to use both my in-laws names in the childs name. Because they passed away within a couple days of each other, I think it would be a touching tribute and story for when the child was older.)
3) To all the haters: Hush. Not your baby, not your choice. When y'all have kids of your own, name them the way you want (though I'm sure you'll get some flack for what you choose as well). Really, it all comes down to what they choose to call her and then what she likes to be called when she is old enough to understand and say "no, I want you to call me ." Also, if you can't say anything nice (or at least in a respectful way), don't say anything at all.

There's always going to be people out there who are negative Nancy's as my mom calls them. No one liked the name Oliver Scott that we picked for our son. But my husband and I literally didn't give a crap. By the time he was born everyone loved it.
No one had the right to knock a name that a parent chooses especially parents that have been waiting a long time and been on a long journey to meet their miracle blessing. Everyone has different brains and likes and dislikes. You feel connected to the name and how it fits together for YOUR daughter. I personally love it. But I'm from the south and live in the same state and possibly close to your city since we have met once. Macey Gaines is a beautiful unique name that will be somebody some day. Powerful unique name. Hey guys! When I was in study abroad in college (in the middle ages) I discovered that people in West Africa will often times go by their middle names. Being from NYC, I had no idea that anyone ever would do such a thing. I'm Natalie Elizabeth and people who would see my name written out over there would say "Well, what do you go by, Natalie or Elizabeth?" I remember being so baffled, like, what a ridiculous question. Natalie is in the front, I go by Natalie. Haha, what a culture shock for me, I learned to really see the comedy in the cultural difference and would sometimes tell people, "you pick!" LOL. I like the name you chose because I like it when girls have somewhat masculine names, it's really cute.
Wow, surprised at how upset you guys are. Seems like most the vlog was spent telling the people they were ridiculous and to "shove it", and criticizing them, being sarcastic and almost rude about it. I get there are haters and trolls but disappointing to see that much time and attitude spent on the small percentage of negative comments. Usually such an upbeat vlog, I guess it just hit a nerve (which I can sorta understand). Just don't give the negativity attention!

I get it. I wouldn't like those comments made about my name choices. I was just going back and reading the comments from the name reveal expecting to see some hateful things, and while there were a few outright rude ones...I think most were honest (and yes, unsolicited) reactions to an unusual name. Most of us have been made fun of as a kid as as a sore spot, a first thought when it comes to names. I was just surprised to hear some of the things you said (like how they don't have to watch your channel and how you don't really care what they think) and see how sarcastic and negative you guys were in return (saying some people in the comments had weird names). I dunno, was just surprised and put off. That said, you guys are great. Macey GAINES is a lucky girl. :)

This is THEIR child and the name obviously means a lot to them. The beauty is when each of those subscribers has a child they can name it whatever THEY want. If they really don't like it then just don't comment. Why hurt their feelings? They obviously aren't going to change it because some viewers are rude.
Gaines is a BEAUTIFUL name for a GIRL... yall know what fits YALLS baby and that's all that matters! No one else is going to have to go through labor to deliver Gaines... so no one else really has the right to an opinion about it.

I am almost 23 weeks and have only shared my baby girl's name with close family. Whenever someone asks if I have a name I say, "Kinda." I just don't want to invite anyone to criticize a name that my husband and I love! I admire you for even addressing "concerns" because the first person to say something negative about my baby's name will get an ear full and it won't be nice!
I'm right there with you about the baby names! I'm 25 weeks pregnant and finally decided on naming my son bennett and everyone's like that sounds like a last name, that's horrible, blah blah blah. Amen!! Gaines is a wonderful and unique name. I named my oldest son Orion. I still remember when I announced his name at my babyshower and everyone looked at me like I was crazy. People honestly told me that they hated it and didn't like it all. I was crushed but stuck to it...because that was the name that I liked. Now he's almost 12 and nobody could image him as anything else. He's 100% an Orion and people actually tell him all the time they love his name...and most importantly HE loves his name. :o) Gaines is awesome!!

I do love the flow of Macey Gaines. My dad's last name is Sells and he is a regional sales manager, who uses to be a salesman. Can you imagine the jokes my whole family got? Lol. We lived! But definitely prepare to hear them because no matter how lame and overdone everyone acts like they're the only ones in the world to tell you that joke. Love the names. You don't have to justify YOUR babies name to anyone. My nieces and nephews all have unique names, and once you meet them you never forget them because of their unusual names. I totally agree with most people not understanding southern names. My son is named Clayton Edwin-Gene Toney. Clayton is my great grandmothers maiden name and his name names are either 'Clayton Edwin-Gene' or 'Edwin- Gene'. I think Macey Gaines has the cutest name ever.

The making fun of the name thing was like back in the 60's lol I work in an Elementary school and I have never heard kids make fun of names and believe me there are some very unique names. Macey Gaines is the cutest name I have ever heard! I Love how ya'll put real love and thought into it.

The double name is huge in the south. I was a nanny for a southern family up here in Montana and their daughter went by her first and middle name.
I love the name Macey Gaines. It is a very southern name which fits for ya'll. I have always gone by my middle name just because Phillip Brandon flows better than Brandon Phillip. It is VERY common to go by your middle name in the south.

I'm from Boston and both Macey AND Gaines are unusual names where I'm from. But where I live, we also have a very large melting pot of people from different regions and countries so unusual names and strong "differences of opinion" are pretty common around here. At times, what may seem harsh to others, doesn't even read on our radar screen as such. In short, try not to see those differences of opinion as NEGATIVE. Try viewing them as just differences and don't let'em stick to ya. Many congrats on your baby name choice and thanks for the explanation on how you chose it. Very interesting and cool!

Just came across this video! My name is Anna Katherine and my parents (especially my mom) wanted me to go by both names. Through my middle school days I decided I liked Anna K better. Now I'm mostly known as Anna Katherine or AK. It's fun having two names and I know Macey Gaines will always enjoy her name no matter what she wants to go by when she is older!!

When I hear the name Macey, I think of a pretty little girl and when I hear Gaines, it's not an overly girly name, but it holds real meaning to it and for that reason I think it's a beautiful name. I've grown to really love masculine names and last names as given names for girls :) My favourite for a girl right now is Donovan. I've grown to really love the name Gaines as well, especially after seeing her, she totally looks like a Gaines. Ya'll do what you want! You put a lot of thought into it and it's important to you. I hope ya'll aren't getting any crap about her name anymore.
My oldest daughter has a unisex first name that is also a common last name but we've never had any problems with it. She also goes by her middle name at times. My youngest (who is 1 1/2 and loves watching Gaines in the videos she points and says "awe baby!") we gave a common name and our family gave us alot of grief about it being so common. In the end it's only up to yall. I love the name and Gaines is such a doll!
