I’ve a Euro 4 with double coil EMG pups and is an amazing bass, rich tones, intonation, and sustain! It’s a boat anchor and hurts my back after a gig ha but love it. The neck-through helps sustain. Only thing I wish is that they made one like the model I have with smaller neck with smaller frets for fast prog playing. The bass plays and feels so good.. I think a good reason, at least in part, is that Ned Steinberger originally designed them! That’s kind of the Midas touch!
had to look it up after this comment, it looks like the 4 is 9 lbs. not hugely heavy but not super light either (for anyone with sore backs). edit: it turns out this is for the old LX model, nobody i have found is saying what the new one weighs, although it seems at some point recently they lightened them. edit of the edit 🤣 chicago music (my guys!) has the bolt on 4 at 8 lbs which is pretty light actually.
I just got mine 3 weeks ago and in the same color except I have the TonePump circuit. I did some asking around and it turns out Rex Brown's old Spector's have the TonePump as well. If it's good enough for Rex then it will certainly work for me.
for a real spector euro experience i suggest you try a spector euro lx 5 from the series before this one, with the double humbuckers, it's a different beast, i own one of those
I've got a 2011 Euro 4LX-35 with EMG DC's and the old Tonepump and it's always my favorite thing to play. Nothing comes close. Just a perfect feeling bass, incredible sounds too. I'd love the legacy preamp but I've come to really learn the nuances of the Tonepump
I traded my Sandberg to Spector Euro lx5, same color as yours, with Emg humbuckers and original Tonepump. I finally got the growly sound and everything that I had ever wanted from bass 👍👍
I debated on a Spector but found a unicorn of a PRS Grainger that absolutely slaps. The reviews of your quality just aren't out there, and there really needs to be.
Nice review! Have you tried Spector's Dimension HP yet? Supposedly new darkglass preamp was big help to tone vs past models (cuts through with better mids?) And the multiscale model of HP especially. Would be interesting to hear comparison vs. Dingwall.
Always thought of them as sister basses to Warwick. Same quality European build, distinctive wide but thin neck profiles and similar small and modern bodies... Thoughts?
I owned a Czech Spector Rebop 5 back in the day. It wasn't the most versatile bass for me tonally but goddamn that thing was built well and felt great to play and looked amazing and roared through my Ampeg rig. I remember staying up late playing along to Megadeth and Cannibal Corpse songs and all the clicking and clacking and growling sounds were marvelous.
No lx as of 2016 became the base level Spector euro replacing the euro standard bolt on is called rebop till 2017 when they released the eurobolt also most of the Korean made Spector are bolt on necks just not deep set like the rebop/eurobolt
@@grooveholmes79 oh you’re right! However the pu placement is not like the lx neckthru version, they’re closer to the bridge (Ian Allison did a great job comparing the two basses).
I had an older Euro model I bought new. It sounded great and played great. My only gripe is I would always crash into pickup whether finger or pick and make pop noises. jmo
. *I love 95% of this bass, but...* *I'm waiting for a Babicz replacement bridge to come available before I take the plunge.* I absolutely loathe screw pole bridges, because I've been known to play aggressively and not once have I found one that would "sit & stay." Fender standard and Rickenbacker bridges are the worst while Warwick 2-piece bridges are the lest temperamental, but I'm not taking the chance as they all move. *Disclaimer:* This is based on my personal experience. So if this isn't an issue for you... I'm extremely jealous.
Warwick wouldn’t be what it is today if they didn’t copy the ns2(1979) with the streamer back in 1984 supposedly to bring the ns2 body shape to the euro market. Early 1985-1990 Warwick streamers have it indicated on the control cavity (licensed by Spector ) cause they were sued and loss and had to pay per streamer made
I have a current dilemma, choosing between - Warwick , Spector or a Dignwall. Dingwall would be a no-brainer, but the fanned frets ... and trying to find strings for it. (Needing it for Drop C).
@@ileutur6863 even 120 is honestly too big to be running on a 4 string for drop c or d drop c. I have a bass thats running like 110 that sounds damn good for the job. Its a squire J bass too
Have 2017 Euro Lx5. Quality of craftsmanship in this instrument is very very high. But I have to say that while Tonepump is extremely good sounding pre for rock/metal and overall picking technique then I found it very limiting and not that much versatile. Neck profile is very specific due to how wide and thick it is. Not a problem for me since I m used to Pbass but might be too much for some ppl. 24 frets in five strings version feel cosmetic due to body shape.
Is it just me, but the tone sounds a little muffled. Almost like a passive bass with the tone only half way up but then put through a harmonic booster or a 31 band eq.
The Spector is A great Bass, earlier this year I wanted to add one to my collection, It was between a WARWICK and the Spector Euro 5, went with the WARWICK $$ , love it!
by the way, and i'm not kidding when i write this, you are the first one ever from all the music instrument testers on youtube that actually plays the spector like it should be played, and excuse the caps but THE ONLY ONE THAT FUCKING FINALLY MAKES THE STRINGS MOVE!!!!! and not play them strings like a little pink princess who's afraid of everything, so yeah, nice man!
I'm surprised that my 2006 Rebop sounds sooooo much better! And this one costs three times more! 😐 Tbh the previous LX version with the Tonepump sounded better =/
Not gonna lie it sounds kinda floppy and dead for aggresive metal picking for my taste, but the tone for finger playing is sooo smooth. The price is really steep for what it seems to be though but maybe ill change my mind if i get to try my hands at one sometime
Spector does have that special sauce of it's own. Like a Musicman
Dude YES. They’re both so damn unique in both overall playability, feel and tone!
Sounds great Patrick! 🤘
I lust after a euro 4lx so badly. Played one in 07 and its never left my heart. Someday.

The Reason Majority Of The EURO Spector's are good is because the Factory has a Plek Pro Machine .
Beautiful!!👌🏻

You really need to get a hold of a Sandberg California VM4. They are amazing.
Awesome review as always! In regard to trying premium basses, I would be curious what you think of the newer Kiesel A2 basses!

if you wiki streamer bass you can read the sad story, there was a lawsuit involved there. in the past now.

My god, what a beaut! That tone made my face almost freeze from bassface. As for the price... :')
I've played Spectors through GK Cabs before and the spice you get from the two is HNGGGG!!!!!!!!
So jealous you get to play these things for your job haha!
Damn that bass do Bé looking good :))
Eddie Jackson of Queensryche has IMO the best rock bass tone. Mostly due to the Spector bass.
The reverse P and J set up really makes the tone.
Also this isn't the LX, its the LX bolt on. The regular LX is neck through

I’m a Warwick loyalist but I’ll give it to Spector; they have the best picked metal tones in the game

The choice is clear 😉
You dont need a multiscale for drop C. You just need it set up properly tension wise
