    Thank you, diydrone, for your reply. I'ts great to know someone is paying attention. We beginners need all the help we can get.
    I understand the bind plug connects the first and third pins on the Batt terminal - the ones labeled omega and minus. I assume this connection is to be made temporarily during the initial assembly, as the Batt socket is not accessible after assembly is complete.
    I further assume the RX 1002 receiver is powered thru one or more of the input connections (throt, elev, rudd, aler). Which is to say it is NOT powered by a 4.7-6v source as the R702 is (per Walkera documentation).
    To date I have 4 connections between the DEVO-M and RX1002. All the above leaves me with this question: How does one connect the DEVO-M controller for the CHECK POWER INPUT?
    Once again, thank you for your help.

    Thanks for this great video. I was really surprised to see the GPS was NOT Connected at the Factory. After seeing that, to be safe I did a double check on ALL the connections and actually found a couple that were not as "snug" as what I would have done on my own. If you own this Quad, take the time to check "under the hood".

      @dronemission  10 років тому +1

      Yes, I would check everything. After installing the receiver we noticed one motor would die after 10 seconds, turned out to be a bad ESC for a brand new quad. So this QR x350 has been grounded, no videos updates until we can get it replaced, hopefully soon.

      ***** Sorry to hear about the bad ESC. I hope to see more videos on this quad when you get her up and running.

    Hi Buddy,
    Just to keep you updated on my progress on changing out the original ESC from the X350.
    I replaced them with HK Afro 30A esc. Remember to remove the Red power pin from the rx plug before plugging in back into the mainboard for ALL 4 ESCs.
    It works ok. Then i noticed that the same 2 motors that had the burned ESCs, they are still stuttering. I went on to remove them and replaced with another 2 motors to test. Everything works normally now.
    So what i found out, the motors had some issues, which in turn caused load on the esc and caused it to overheat. Then i also realised another thing: Before my very first maiden flight, i have removed the screws that secures the motors to the arms to fit in the propeller guards. And i noticed that it gets alittle difficult to re-screw them back into the motors. And for those 2 motors that i wasn't able to screw back in properly, they ran hot and subsequently burned the esc.
    So i think the way the motors are being fastened onto the arms via a circular carbon piece, it somehow damages the motors and in turn causes load on esc.
    You may want to check your motor mounts and see if its the same case.
    I am going to buy multistar motors to replace all 4 of my original walkera motors.
    Oh yes btw, the APM 2.5.2 ROCKS on my H4 Quad Copter!!!

    • @dronemission
      @dronemission  10 років тому

      Hi Alan. Wow, looks like this is going to be an expensive QR x350 you have. By the way, did you get the APM from RCtimer? Did you get the u-Blox CN06 Plus GPS Receiver, We were wondering how the GPS performs? ~ Leo

    • @alanlow6195
      @alanlow6195 10 років тому

      Hi Leo, yes i bought the BNF X350 cos I thought can save some $$$ by using my JR radio but in the end I am paying a lot more repairing it! But I think the Afro 30a esc and multistar 980kv motor will give the x350 more response. Just a pity I will not have the Red/Green LEDs anymore as they were soldered onboard the original ESCs.
      I bought my apm 2.5.2 with uBlox 6M from sdshobby. It works great with the latest firmware and mission planner. But the issue with sensitive barometer is true, it does need to have a layer of cotton wool to lessen the interference when heavy wind strikes. Mine during loiter will drift up and down when it encounters moderate to heavy wind.
      I m still flying on standard PIDs, haven't venture out much to adjust.
      Do you have any recommended PID for H-frame copters?

  • @alanlow6195
    @alanlow6195 10 років тому +1

    Hi Leo,
    Finally got down to fixing up my X350. OK here's the setup:
    1) Changed out original ESC to HK Afro 30A
    2) Changed out original motors to Turnigy 2213 900KV (200W) motors.
    3) Propellers are original
    4) Propeller guards installed.
    5) Firmware upgraded to V1.2
    Test flight once with the following report:
    Everything works ok, throttle seems smoother than original, but needs around 3/4 stick to hover. I think maybe original motor is 1000kv vs this Turnigy at 900Kv? Also there is an additional weight after installing the 4 Afros30A ESCs with some length of wires.
    Motors run alittle warm, possibly also because of the 3/4 stick throughout the first flight.
    Alot more stable with V1.2 firmware. Will give it another 2 battery packs to settle down before switching to GPS mode and RTL.
    Lastly, just to highlight, i realised what caused my original motors to stutter and ESC burn. There are 2 long screws and 2 short screws for the motor mount. I took out the motor mounting screws to put on the propeller guards, and when i screwed them back, the 2 long screws somehow went into the motor magnet coil wires. There are too long and if you try to screw them in alittle too much, you will hit the coil wires like me. That caused binding and in turn caused load on the ESC. It is truly a silly mistake.
    I am not sure my initial weird flying behaviors were caused by the faulty ESCs or the V0.9 firmware. Anyway, i can't know the answer now that i found out i caused the original motors and ESC to die.
    So for all those reading this: BE careful when you are putting on propeller guards or if you are going to remove the original screws!
    Next up, once the FC proves to be able to fly stable, i am going to transplant the whole FC onto a "Reptile" quad frame and setup for FPV flying. Will keep you posted on that as well!
    Cheers.

    • @dronemission
      @dronemission  10 років тому

      Alan, that is an interesting observation with regards to 2 long screws and 2 short screws for the motor mount causing the motors to stutter. We will definitely take note of that. We spoke to Walkera recently and they say the firmware V1.2 and 1.3 are identical with the exception that 1.3 has a lower voltage protection. So if you want to fly longer, use v1.3, but take the necessary personal precautions, like keeping track of time.
      With regards to PID for H-frame copters, we do not have any experience in that, but I will always start without any change and a well balanced prop. Sorry for the delay reply, we have been busy with the finding missing children projects, so a few APM videos stays in the queue before we can get back to it. We also have 2 planes that need work, one will be upgraded to Arduplane.
      If you or anyone would like to contribute to the next video campaign, just raw footage, see details www.dronemission.com/video.php We would love to see you fly over the Merlion, just kidding.
      Leo

      Hi Leo,
      Thanks for the tips on firmware differences.
      Recalling back, I think the longer screws could have come together with the prop guards. In all cases just be careful.
      Btw, I also managed to hook up minimosd V1.1 to my Ardupilot. I went by the sealed jumper route, drawing power from APM only. All is good! Forgot about my FTDI adaptor though, waiting for that.
      Hey thanks for invitation to the video campaign! Honestly my group are still multicopter novice so no long range flying for us. Yet. Hahaha
      Will tell my buddies about it. Maybe u may find some of our videos interesting. Be warned of the boring flying site though!
      Keep in touch buddy.

    Hi all, great channel, awesome vids.Please can you give me a little advice? I've got a QR X350 which has had a couple of heavy landings! Now I only seem to get a couple of 'seconds' of run time out of a fully charged battery. Can u tell me what part(s) are likely to have been damaged?? I noted the last battery read out after running was 2 cells @ 3.75 Volts and another cell @4.20 Volts???!!! Any info. would be greatfully received, thx, Luis in Portugal

      +Silver Seeker60 hi, yes, Devo 8s should pair with most models, backward compatible. This model is about 2 years old, and that is a long time for Drone years, try the x350 Pro or x350 Premium.

    I just ordered one without receiver as I have xtras, is the GEAR plug in used for fail safe? I am using Hitec TX RX Aurora 9, after install is it fly ready?

  • @alanlow6195
    @alanlow6195 10 років тому

    I bought a BNF X350 as well, plugged in my JR receiver, calibrated, first flight the quad doesn't want to take off straight up. It veers heavily to the right and slightly forward. Needed alot of trim which doesn't make sense. I also noticed 2 out of 4 motors are almost hot to touch. That is just 2 short flights.
    Re-calibrated compass and sensors, quad still veered sideways. Took out my JR rx, replug everything again and tested the unit on desk without propellers. This time round 1 motor stutters on throttle and stops occasionally while the other 3 spins. I cut throttle, unplug battery and try again. This time 2 motors start stuttering and stopped completely when i go full throttle. At this point i smell burning plastic, i quickly unplug the battery. Touched the 2 motors that stutter, it was hot. Touched the 2 ESCs connected to the 2 motors, they were hot as well. One of the ESC almost went into flames if i have pulled the battery alittle later. And it all happened less than 1 minute after i plug in the battery.
    This is also another case of faulty ESC? I am ordering third party ESC to use with the Quad, not going to spend US18 each for X350 replacement ESCs. Any advise???

    • @dronemission
      @dronemission  10 років тому

      Hi! Alan. Looks like an ESC issue, very similar to our issue, out of the box. The motor stutters and dies. I am not sure about having mix esc on a quad, so I would replace all 4, if you plan to change a different type. What replacement were you thinking of using by the way, good to know? Thanks.

      Hey buddy, I bought HK's Afro 30a esc. Actually I think 30a would suffice but what the neck might as well get the best. Dimension wise I think should fit snugly. Have to solder motor and power supply wires into 3mm bullet connectors though. It's frustrating to have major issues when it's right out of box. Regarding the firmware update via usb? Any major improvements? Will update u once my ESCs are in!

      @dronetestpilot 10 років тому

      saleem, we don't have a Futaba, but it should be the same. When your box arrive, you should find the Quick Start Guide or you can download it. You will find a diagram with the Main Control Board. Follow the diagram. When you start connecting your channels, you will see the Gear out, just attach it to a 3 position switch channel on your receiver. run a test at 15 feet, by flipping the switch once, putting it to position hold. if it holds the position, you are good for the RTL test. Make sure you have the latest firmware.

    I have a X350 Pro with Devo-M controller and RX1002 receiver. Not able to bind it to the Devo 10 transmitter. Have connected aler-aler, elev-elev, throt-throt, rud-rud, but have no chk pwr on the receiver as I do on the controller. Therefore, have 4 items connected, not 5 as shown in this video. Also received a binding plug, but don't know here/how to use it. Bind between transmitter aand aircraft does NOT occur. Manuals from Walkera are no help. Can anyone help, please?

    • @dronemission
      @dronemission  9 років тому

      to clear a receiver, you just put the binding plug on the BATT slot, then power the receiver with any of the channels. I think the light should start blinking. the video is for the x350, so the Pro will have a Devo M. make sure the gps is hookup. Remove your props for safety. You will need to power the x350 Pro first and then the devo 10. You will then complete the Walkera Calibration. The x350 Pro will not start up until you have completed the initial setup checks, which checks everything is connected and calibrated.
