That's why i don't trust free review search sites like google, home advisor and yelp. Paid search sites like angies list are a lot this prone to review rigging.
The problem with not hiring local is you might never be able to get them back if you have a roof problem. When you hire somebody to do your roof do you want them to be able to come back.
Drew's Roofing & Home Repair I don’t think you should look at it like that. When you hire a roofing company, you never want them to come back. If it’s done right you won’t need them
As a homeowner DIY, I prefer to hand-nail shingles to avoid over-shoot or under-shoot with compressed air driven nail gun. It takes longer time but every nail is properly in position.
We need to teach the roofers how to adjust there nail guns and make sure to use there nail guns properly its very important on how the air gun is shooting into the shingles especially when the weather is hot
If someone is building anything for anyone and charging money for it, I would hope they would know the basics such as adjusting their guns. Unfortunately many people that hire contractors don't know the right questions to ask. I would say forget the roofers, if they cant even adjust air pressure they don't need to be roofing. what we need to do is teach customers what to look for when hiring a contractor. With any potential customer I actually tell them even if they don't hire me for what ever reason, these are the things you look for and ask when hiring a contractor. Unfortunately a lot of customers will take the lowest bid and never research beyond the price.
The roofer came back and did a few small repairs he removed the ridge and installed it correctly thats it. Then he said your roof is fine and left LOL what a joke.

It’s not always the “guy from out of town”. Sometimes it’s the idiots in their own hometown. I’m not a storm chaser but there are a lot of good traveling contractors out there. But yeah that ridge vent job is ridiculous lol
DAMN I've never see an entire new roof like that. The ridge vent/caps is totally mind blowing though. It looks to me like the guy just loaded up his nail gun with only one size nail, didn't check the pressure, and did the entire roof in one shot... The sad part is that is a pretty simple job. I live in upstate New York. We don't have the same storms, but the architecture is a lot more complex on the old houses. More angles and surfaces. My buddies and I could do better with hammers and a bucket left over nails.
You get what you pay for when doing it cheap. Those are cheap ass shingles nail line almost gone. They can't hold a air gun nail. Premium shingles will show you where to nail and will hold a nail shot at 90 psi 2.0 cfm at least. Buy the premium and that won't be the results.
I would have agreed with you if your title said the worst roofing material ever. (roof Shingles) it is a shit material even when it is installed correctly you would never see this shit on houses in Australia.
States too. Different states and codes. Here in florida. By law you need a license to do roofing and i have a roof from 2002 and she is in pristine condition. No leaks too :) that’s why i love my old roof haha

Cesar Gallegos turn down your guns nailing depth?? Or turn down the compressor? Or don’t punch the gun down so hard?? Just saying....... but I thank you for creating repair jobs for the rest of us!
Drew, to me it is very obvious that this so called roofer did not know what he was doing. I myself would have to pull off some of that roofing to see if there is any other underlying problems that we are not seeing in the video. From some of the things I had researched prior to seeing this video I found that most of the pros do not recommend a second roof on mobile homes because of the added weight it puts on the structure. Not to say there is a second roof but I would have to see enough to rule that out. I myself don't even claim to be a roofer what I have done was mostly small jobs such as a garage roofs with nails and a hammer. I also did a fairly large duplex apartment and on it we used a staple gun and the staples were like 3/4" wide by maybe 1 or and 1/4 long. I only did the staple gun job because my uncle a retired construction worker had retired and recommended we use it to get the job done faster. I have never had any complaints about any of the jobs or work I have performed. The staple gun we used did not break the shingle and did penetrate the wood decking below very securely. The work in this video makes me sick because that roof won't hold up if most of those nails cracked the shingles. I couldn't have went that far without knowing something was wrong there is just no way. I pray the owner gets Justice and a new roof that's just wrong. Those people used at least 2 inch nails to me the nails only need to make it thru the decking and maybe a 1/4" beyond. I have never seen a nail gun that would shoot thru like that all the way through and took the shingle with it that's unreal.
Man I could not agree more. This job was ridiculous. And the installer was not local. So sad and I use 1-1/4 nails. I never go over the top of another layer of shingles
@@Drewsroofingandhomerepair I just last night saw a video another roofer had posted showing tons of shingles he could literally grab them by hand and slide them down the roof. From what he said and what I gathered from it the problem was the nails had been shot in the wrong place. The nails should have been shot into one layer and then into the second layer underneath however whomever did the roof shot them too high completely missing the row of shingles beneath. Let me try to find that video so you can see it, it is unbelievable. The video below is the one. Watch "the worst roofing job in history" on UA-cam ua-cam.com/video/hmAAT_o6W8U/v-deo.html
They used short shingle nails for the ridge vent,, I am going to use Gaf Cobra 3 vent, comes with the long nails. What is the point of nailing on nice shingle and doing such poor job on the ridge.
That is the worst you have seen in 25 years? I'm a Florida home inspector and I see worse than that on a yearly basis. If you are friends with that person, why not tell them to use a local company, read the reviews of the company, and to make sure a permit is pulled? Fly by Nighters are everywhere, especially after a storm that damaged several homes.
That's why I hate it when these clowns try to machine gun the shingles down with these new air. Nailers !! I'm old school I always hand nailed any roof I ever worked on !! I would be pissed to the max to see this kind of workmanship too !!
It’s going to leak it just hasn’t rained yet that is the most ridiculous thing ever they are definitely responsible for the roof being done properly and up to code
We’ll code in many areas only dictates that the entire roof surface must be covered with 2 layers of shingles. Hopefully anyone understands that’s the overlay of the shingle backing not a shingle over. There’s rarely code regarding drip edge, nails depth etc etc. Not arguing against the fact that it’s not a good job, just saying by means of code an inspector would pass it as they can’t lift the shingles due to damaging the tar line sealing unless planning on re sealing it by hand afterward.
Yes if it is not up to code they are responsible I agree this crew did not do a good job they were from out of town the owner of the company was black the workers were Mexicans maybe Hondurans I don’t know but I’ve also seen white cruise that do the same crappy work I’ll seen white crew to do great work I’ve seen Mexicans Hondurans blacks do crappy work and I’ve seen them do good work it’s all according to the person if you’re a good person you’ll do good work if you’re really not a good person and you don’t care you’ll do crappy work any race
And if you were any type of decent roofer you would know that’s the worst type of ridge vent on the planet to put on your house that plastic shit is garbage even if he did it right that shit would blow off
I’m not sure where you’re from but around here roofing is running about 260 a square labor and material that is for a regular pitch roof $300 a square if you get up to a 712 or more anything 912 and up $400 a square
We are in Florida, I can do a 4/12 for 210 It looked like that was about 22 square So he paid around $400 for work of that quality. My last job I got for $400 I gave the dude a complimentary handy lol
Everyone I looked at were blown threw the shingles. Look at the nails they use around here at the beach and what happens to them. Not to mention the crappy repair from the guy before. ua-cam.com/video/9CzQf1RLP4Q/v-deo.html
I agree 100% but in this case the homeowner is the one that built the roof onto was on the roof and the roofer who did this job just came in and did exactly what had been done it’s going to leak it’s a buddy of mine Terry lives about a quarter of a mile from me he was just in a goddamn hurry to get his roof done after the hurricane he couldn’t wait for me for two months he thought he was getting a deal
@@Drewsroofingandhomerepair So that being said, I have a section of my roof that is low sloped similar to that. This roof was a mess. I’m not sure who did the job but they didn’t do a good job.
@@Drewsroofingandhomerepair That Crew must have been a full of full blown imbeciles 🤣🤣🤣
Wow that's messed up
Could not believe it
Must be one of them fastest roofer on the planet
Yeah there’s a few of them on UA-cam
I've quit using GAF shingles because they never glue themselves down like Certainteed
I like the Owens Corning duration sgirnail
Those are CertainTeed. You can see the blue line on the nailer.
Yes sir they are certain teaching off it gets hot here
Call an attorney you been had.
They should have it was a neighbor job
In south carolina don't you need roofing permit ?
You don’t need to work roofing permit in North Carolina either
@@Drewsroofingandhomerepair Out here in California i am just so used to pulling permits for everything !!!
I forget there are still places where its free from the city.
Whole roofs probably nailed off wrong
Yes sir I checked all over the place the whole entire roof nailed off wrong I don’t know how it’s still up there and not leaking but so far to be honest the roof does not leak I don’t know why it should be leaking that’s for sure thanks for watching my brother
I hope you feel better
I do
I would fix the ridge cap and leave the rest of the roof where I live I won’t have wind that would blow off those shingles
Yea its bad but if it doesnt leak or blow off whatever
We do
I saw that bad osb on your first pass
Can you believe it
instructions are on the packaging
G Boucher I agree
A new siege car and he will be fine! I have seen so much worse, well so far that is!
This is one of the worst ones I’ve seen but I have seen worse
What would I do if this was my house? How do you do...my name is sue.
I could not agree more I could not believe the roof when I looked at it susu susu away
That’s take edge, but we will let it slide.
Rake*
Hope not
They were surely just trying to get paid and could not care about their customers
Agreed
Ill repair it by hand. It will take about two buckets of nails plus ten nails per section of vent of 2.5"
yes agreed
At least the tear off should go fast.
Lol
It’s not always the “guy from out of town”. Sometimes it’s the idiots in their own hometown. I’m not a storm chaser but there are a lot of good traveling contractors out there. But yeah that ridge vent job is ridiculous lol
Thanks for the observation buddy appreciate your comment and I agree with you 100% it is not always the out of towners. I travel many times for jobs
2:30 sound the alarm.
That was funny my phone went off just as I was talking about the ridge vent LOL
@@Drewsroofingandhomerepair lol
The funny thing is just as I was showing that my phone rang LOL
DAMN I've never see an entire new roof like that. The ridge vent/caps is totally mind blowing though. It looks to me like the guy just loaded up his nail gun with only one size nail, didn't check the pressure, and did the entire roof in one shot... The sad part is that is a pretty simple job. I live in upstate New York. We don't have the same storms, but the architecture is a lot more complex on the old houses. More angles and surfaces. My buddies and I could do better with hammers and a bucket left over nails.
Amazing
WAIT FOR IT. NO RAIN NO LEAK.
True
True, but a strong enough wind will tear that roof off
I agree
You get what you pay for when doing it cheap. Those are cheap ass shingles nail line almost gone. They can't hold a air gun nail. Premium shingles will show you where to nail and will hold a nail shot at 90 psi 2.0 cfm at least.
Buy the premium and that won't be the results.
That’s exactly right and I am a time traveler answering this video from two years ago
My roof is like that.
O no
short nails high psi…. shell hold long enough to pack up tools and check to clear.. smh
Yep, that’s about it
Ridge cap over ridge vent needs 3” nails. Very poor job
I agree
At least the rows were straight
LOL
I mean, a few shingles with nails shot all the way through isn't a catastrophic thing, it will probably be just fine unless it gets super windy
We live in the 110 mile an hour winds on Southeast North Carolina
Do you have windstorm inspection there? We do in Houston/ Galveston. If it's not right you won't get paid.
I would have agreed with you if your title said the worst roofing material ever. (roof Shingles) it is a shit material even when it is installed correctly you would never see this shit on houses in Australia.
Language my friend. I can understand you better if you speak without the language. Shingles is what we use in US or metal
Lol, local does not equal good. Just always got to do your research on the company
I agree
States too. Different states and codes. Here in florida. By law you need a license to do roofing and i have a roof from 2002 and she is in pristine condition. No leaks too :) that’s why i love my old roof haha
Local does not mean good I agree with that statement 100%
Les Fernandez research is more than a star rating. Those are never dependable. Get references and make a few calls. Only takes a lil bit of time. But your whole house is on the line so it’s worth the time
I agree
can you demand only hammer and nail no compressor?
Yes you can. It’s your roof we can definitely ask for it to be handled
What do you do in a situation like this
Remove and redo
Y'all missing the entire point and or reason this roofer installed that ridge vent the way he did !!.. I can't believe nobody in the comments understands!!!!.. .. Dude is coming back one night and they now how a master key !!!... Hello !!!.. 😂😂😂😱😱😱🔥💣
Lol. True
What is the difference between 20 and 30 yrs
20 year shingle is a three tab shingle that is 12 x 36” the 30 year shingle is 13 1/4 x 39 1/2”
$5 Says one or more of the thumbs down worked on this roof...even the Boss....i see his thumbs down...imma Uncertified roofer and you will run across stuff like this on a regular...curious why no close up of the Pipes area
I could not agree more I don’t know who did this job but this video was sent to them and they were mad that I had put it on UA-cam but I didn’t identify the company therefore they could not do anything about it
The nail usually goes throw when its hot
+Cesar Gallegos I hope not
@@Drewsroofingandhomerepair well i know its true because i have worked as a roofer and i have seen tht happend
Cesar Gallegos turn down your guns nailing depth?? Or turn down the compressor? Or don’t punch the gun down so hard??
Just saying....... but I thank you for creating repair jobs for the rest of us!
Figures🤬
Watch "the worst roofing job in history" on UA-cam
ua-cam.com/video/hmAAT_o6W8U/v-deo.html
Wow. Just wow 😯
They used short shingle nails for the ridge vent,, I am going to use Gaf Cobra 3 vent, comes with the long nails. What is the point of nailing on nice shingle and doing such poor job on the ridge.
Makes no sense at all my friend
As soon as I saw this guys face no doubt he knows what the fuck he’s talking about
Thank you
11:14 9,000 or 8,000 on the coments 🤣🤣
8 grand
you think thats bad -you should see the roof i just dida few towns over ?
Dan Kirchner hahaha
Lol
You’re funny Dan you are real funny LOL the only thing that scares me is I believe what you’re saying again LOL
Was that you? Did you do this roof?
Maybe maybe not
But 9k was kinda cheap to do that size of a roof
That is the worst you have seen in 25 years? I'm a Florida home inspector and I see worse than that on a yearly basis. If you are friends with that person, why not tell them to use a local company, read the reviews of the company, and to make sure a permit is pulled? Fly by Nighters are everywhere, especially after a storm that damaged several homes.
True thanks. And he knew better he just could not wait for a new roof. He got what he asked for
Such a waste of materials...
I could not agree more
That's why I hate it when these clowns try to machine gun the shingles down with these new air. Nailers !! I'm old school I always hand nailed any roof I ever worked on !! I would be pissed to the max to see this kind of workmanship too !!
Gino totally makes me sick brother totally makes me sick I can’t believe it
Wait to you see my latest greatest video that I will be doing the first part of it tomorrow so part one of a Rubber Roof coming out tomorrow
Yes sir I agree 100% set the pressure on the gun all they had to do obviously they had 150 pounds on that tank
First thing I do is make sure my air on the compressor is adjusted right to seat the nails properly! Takes about one minute if that
These “new”air nailers😂😂
It was a rush job
yes it was thanks for the comment
At least they used nails...
😂
And the lower section is too low sloped for shingles
I can’t believe it I can’t believe what they did
So dramatic! Looks like he wants to redo that roof
Joel Wilman I hate that my friend got robbed. It is very traumatic to spend $8000 for nothing
@@Drewsroofingandhomerepair I would be so mad.
Agreed
Lol 😂 ok. Just a little dramatic
He may get to do the roof if those shingles start blowing off.
Their gonna tell ya if it's not leaking their not responsible
It’s going to leak it just hasn’t rained yet that is the most ridiculous thing ever they are definitely responsible for the roof being done properly and up to code
It’s not up to code, meaning they are responsible.
And if you were any type of decent roofer you would know that’s the worst type of ridge vent on the planet to put on your house that plastic shit is garbage even if he did it right that shit would blow off
I never had problem with plastic blowing off but the shingle caps yes
$9,000 damn he paid good money for a roof that size.
I’m not sure where you’re from but around here roofing is running about 260 a square labor and material that is for a regular pitch roof $300 a square if you get up to a 712 or more anything 912 and up $400 a square
We are in Florida, I can do a 4/12 for 210
It looked like that was about 22 square
So he paid around $400 for work of that quality. My last job I got for $400 I gave the dude a complimentary handy lol
9 grand wtf... im down with those rates
That was a good price
Need to lift every shingle see where the nails are.
Everyone I looked at were blown threw the shingles. Look at the nails they use around here at the beach and what happens to them. Not to mention the crappy repair from the guy before. ua-cam.com/video/9CzQf1RLP4Q/v-deo.html
Question: That roof you got up on, the sunroom looking roof. That slope seems a bit low for shingles? Correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks.
It's kind of random because the roof is all 4:12 but one little section near the entrance is 2:12 and its about 8 foot long 3 foot wide and it slopes back down again. It's very bizarre but has never caused me an issue. Figure I should get it checked out? Home inspector just said to keep an eye on it and didn't really give me any direction or guidance. Thanks!
