Nilaveli Beach is located only a few kilometers away from the city of Trincomalee. This tiny town is perfect for those wanting a relaxed beachside stay in Sri Lanka. Here’s everything you need to know about visiting Nilaveli, Sri Lanka as well as the best things to do!
Beautiful beach, white sand, stretches as far as the eye can see, fishermen bringing in the daily catch, shallow calm water. A liytle.corner of paradise!!! Beware of the argumentative black dogs though! This huge beach has lovely sand and waves to play in. It’s a quiet place with the majority of the beach undeveloped but there are a number of places to stay either directly on the sands or just a few hundred metres back. This is a long beach some 8km long. Roughly in the middle there is a little grid of roads that stretch from the main road to the beach, with a number of restaurants and guesthouses. Most Sri Lankan visitors swim here and there is a 400m or so clean stretch of sand with lifeguards. South (towards Trinco) of this stretch there is a bit of plastic litter on the beach.This worsens after about 1km to the extent that you wouldn't want to walk further let alone swim. You can't directly walk North along the beach as there is a naval training facility. Beyond that there is a short decent stretch of sand in front of a couple of smart hotels (there is also a ticket booth for Pigeon Island here.) Further North the beach is pretty filthy. I would guess things would be better in-season as more hotels would make more of an effort and, I'm guessing, the prevailing winds might be from a better direction.
All along the beach the shore shelves in gently so its shallow a long way out and the waves aren't too big.
The best time to travel there is between April and November, the weather is warm but you can always cool down with some fresh King Coconut water. A trip to Pigeon islands is a must and Nilaveli beach Hotel has a reliable boat service and a Diver training School.
Often indescribable in its natural beauty, Nilaveli in its many moods is unparalleled in Sri Lanka. Although you can wade out for a couple of hundred meters, the sea is not a boring millpond but a frolicking, frivolous, fun companion, by turns soothing and invigorating. Nilaveli sunsets are only outdone by Nilaveli sunrise, competing to paint the brightest gold on wave and sand. For the shellseeker, Nilaveli is extravagantly generous, with cowrie, spiral, conch and butterfly-winged beauties cast up with each wave.
The local people are friendly and unintrusive, they are happy to share this magnificent scenery with visitors and are gentle in their hospitality.

Wide beach .long.excellent for children,if you want you dont have use watershoes,its safety and clean,a lot of bogata parking herę do you can go for a trip. On the beach there were free huts with shadows to rest and the beach was clean. But there were a lot of dogs begging for food as soon as you opened a bag of snacks.
Nilaveli is a cute town with a ton of guest houses and smaller hotels to choose from. No, you won’t hire-rise chain hotels like the Hilton, but you will find quaint beachfront villas and local hospitality.
The best part about staying in Nilaveli is that it is cheap! You can get a really nice room or villa for a fraction of the price you’d pay elsewhere in Sri Lanka. Plus, Nilaveli is a very small town so no matter where you stay you’ll always be close to Nilaveli Beach!

Nilaveli Sand Life - If you’re after a great budget option right on the beach then consider booking here. Rooms start at $12 a night and the reviews here are really good.
Suman Beach Rooms - The Suman is a small guest house located near Nilaveli Beach. It’s a great budget option that only costs around $30 a night. The reviews online are really good and comes highly recommended.
Yaalu Maalu Chill - This place is perfect for couples and is located only 15m from the beach. Rooms are a little pricey at $50 a night but the breakfast is superb!
Villa Nilaveli - Villa Nilaveli is a small hotel that specializes ins mall private cabanas. It’s in a quiet beach area out of town but the location is said to be perfect and right on the beach. A cabana here is around $100 a night.
