The Dalai Lama is such a compassionate person. I've read some of his translated books on Buddhism and the like, and he says very similar things within the prologues of them. When people listen, and respect eachother, things happen more peacefully. As he said, the problem will always be there, but it makes it go easier.
God, the Lord Jesus Christ loves you! Restore your relationship with God by repenting of your sins and putting your faith in Jesus Christ, "... that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures..." (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)
I love this man. I strive to live as he prescribes Compassion is Lovingkindness. It is to respond to others through your Higher Self, your Highest Good. Compassion is to be a pure channel for the Most Sacred High and by drawing upon the experience of Serenity, that which is bright, clear and calm. The respect that we want for ourselves we must extend to all others. Through expressing Love and Light we can have a future that is Bright and Beautiful. We Come together as The One Humanity that we are.
After all, we are all humans and share the same emotions, life.. etc.. Your enemies are your enemies because someone turned them in an enemy. Don't let your enemy turn you into an enemy of another person, instead, respect live and let live.
Wow, i so totally agree. Dialogue and debate in good faith is necessary for us as humanity to advance. Meaningful dialogue about what is moral and what is good can lead us in the right direction. Obviously, as he said, its not perfect, but its in the right direction. Very wise, but then, he IS the Dalai Lama, lol. As a sidenote: He speaks fantastic English.
As an Israeli i am glad that he used the conflict in my country as an example. whe should learn to accept each other. instead of constantly pointing out where the other is wrong we should have a meaningfull dialogue. also the people outside of israel and palestine also dont help, because they think they should pick a side in a conflict and assert their disdain for the other. this does not help us, if you want to help israel and palestine then acknowlege the right of both sides and try to lead the conversation to a constructive road, without pointing fingers to anyone.
it doesn't take a "Dalai Lama" to know this... it's COMMON human thoughts.. only through humility, and understanding that one human is not better than another. will peace be brought... not through "religion, or government" but only through when everyone's eye are open to the FACT we're all human, hate is obsolete. hate is meaningless because all your doing when you hate someone is destroying who you are as a person. When in reality... that, and family-"Mankind" are all we have.
@VictoryCough He's not a tyrant...he's a man who understands the world and has great wisdom. Read one of his books, it only talks about being peaceful. And never have I seen him say or read any of his books that said that he wanted a system of high priests be served.
I like the Dali Lama. Though listening to his point, yes, we may have heard of it all the time, but a perfect reminder is always good to stay the good course. Now I agree our generation, 21st century, must learn to coexist in this democracy of ours, for the true power of a goverment is to keep democracy, which helps synthesize things of otherwise the BEST OF BOTH WORLDS. This democracy, as well as others, can better challenge issues on religion, violence, prejudice, etc. But be kind please.
don't have fear of suffering. To have fear of suffering is still suffering. Take the suffering of other people on your own shoulder- then you show that your suffering is truly vanquished. That's real compassion. Compassion is not only a silent feeling in your heart. Your heart should bleed.
Buddha himself said he was teaching a way to be happy, a philosophy, and did not want statues, temples, offerings, etc. But, just as many Christians do not follow the words of Jesus, some of the followers of Buddha turned to worshipping him instead of trying to follow his example and becoming enlightened.
Next level in life is for me to keep my good health and mind, so I can share love, light and happiness to all lovely souls i care and give all my respect for and that give me good carma in return. God bless you all!
Being compassionate really means that one is unable to tolerate the suffering of someone else. I cannot go on with my life and ignore the suffering of someone else who I care about. I feel that I need to do something to help them.
I'm Catholic, it means the same thing. Jesus was a Buddha, I think a lot of people mistake Love your enemies, which means have compassion for your enemies. Love and compassion mean the same thing in this context, not love as in marry your enemy. And don't mistake modern followers of Christ with the teachings of Christ. Jesus as well as the Buddha(Siddharta) were all love and compassion.
I really loved it. I also appreciate His Holiness the Dalai Lama. 💜💜 With my spiritual path I have also loved watching quite a bit of Master Sri Avinash lately. #SriAvinashDoTV 💜 I've found Sri Avinash's peace teachings have helped me immensely.
he came to my college (Miami University) not to long ago. i regret not buying a ticket to his speech, but i did see the monks working on the sand mandala, pretty much the best artwork ive ever seen, and a very interesting process.
In 1956 the Dalai Lama, fearing that the Chinese government would soon move on Lhasa, issued an appeal for gold and jewels to construct another throne for himself. This, he argued, would help rid Tibet of "bad omens". One hundred and twenty tons were collected. When the Dalai Lama fled to India in 1959, he was preceded by more than 60 tons of treasure.
I agree with everything the Dalai Lama said. Compassion and tolerance is the key to true happiness. I actually just saw him on a documentary called “Discover the Gift” where he talked about his philosophy of life. Overall, I found the film to be pretty motivating.
regardless of what this guy says, and how he sounds (just like yoda, you're right) he has done an incredible job of making a positive impact, especially in the region he hails from. he is a man who should be hailed as a hero, and put amongst the likes of ghandi (although not quite as incredible as ghandi was)
Why is everyone being such a hard ass on the Dalai Lama? He is such an awesome guy. Everyone seems to be disrespecting him because just because he is associated with a religion. So? Why are you being anti-religion? What religion is, is a mind set, usually in favor of bettering humanity. Often times, it goes astray and religion is used for harm, but he is directly speaking out against it.
To the individuals claiming their religion's prominence as a mode for salvation I would encourage you to think outside your box, outside the way you've been persuaded to think and believe. There is an entire world out there, an entire universe, not just yours.
It's not question of obligation, it's question of you wanting to understand others needs and feelings. We all humans have our basic needs, unfortunately they're often expressed in tragic ways. They're often clouded by anger, guilt, shame, judging others, sorting everything into good and bad, right and wrong. If you can learn to look past those and see whats in the person's heart, what their unmet needs and feelings are, you will no longer hear their blame or criticism, it's only your perception.
Love the bit; "We also depend on them (the one with the other view)" ...in other words, we all have our own point of views and there are others with the opposite point of view ...we need to respect them, we depend on them for our future.
I remember caddying for him and I was like Hey Lama how about a little something you know for the effort? He said to me when you die on your death bed you shall receive total conciousness. So I got that going for me...
Max Rafael Waller and Max Waller wrote "We all make mistakes. What should be the response? Should it be open to understand or narrow minded and draconian?"
Its just "Peace, Compassion" blah blah blah. Thank you, i think everyone knows the world would be better if we talked and were peaceful and compassionate. It's just putting it into practice thats the struggle.
@freezingbeast That's true. No one is perfect. I get what you're saying, and in explaining it to a friend I told her "I could have said what he said, in fact I have. Part of the problem is that people only feel comfortable taking the word of someone with a degree, or with a place of power in the political world, as if the rest were just unintelligent crazies. Anyone's opinion is an opinion worth listening to, worth considering, regardless of their social or economic influence."
These young kids make their "Yoda" jokes when they hear HH The Dalai Lama XIV because they don't know that the character of Yoda was actually based on his holiness... When Star Wars was released, that was part of the humor for adults who were familiar with the Dalai Lama and how he speaks...
Without Budh and Budhi nothing completed... Animals don't have intellect and humans have only this difference... Panch Naam , panch organ, panch tatva, panch kosha ,panch virtues, panch pyaare ... when together miracles happen ... Then we reached Anandpur Sahib 😊🎉🎉🎉 🎉🎉 The Temple of God , Tample of the body 😊🎉
@EclecticSceptic Depends how you define religion. Technically, you could be an atheist and a naturalist and still be a Buddhist. Buddhism can be very religious or not so religious in the typical Western sense depending on the sect.
The Dalai Lama is such a compassionate person. I've read some of his translated books on Buddhism and the like, and he says very similar things within the prologues of them. Enemies are only found from those that lack vision.
Dalai lama is a great teacher. His teachings really help.
I like Dalai Lama so much!! He's such a inteligent/good person!! He's surelly a person to be admired!

It's interesting how many hateful comments are posted on a video about compassion and respect...

The Force is strong in this one. Thumbs up if you agree.

Compassion has the potential to change the world.
I saw him in Iowa of all places. He is very inspirational.
@Xhift He totally does. But he is very wise and we are very lucky to have someone like the Dalai Lama.
Ah, I've always liked what he has to say. It matches my own views, so naturally it makes me happy to see a kindred spirit.
Buddha himself said he was teaching a way to be happy, a philosophy, and did not want statues, temples, offerings, etc. But, just as many Christians do not follow the words of Jesus, some of the followers of Buddha turned to worshipping him instead of trying to follow his example and becoming enlightened.
Agree. Thank you, Stanford, for hosting and posting.
You could hear a pin drop in that room it is so quiet...no one moved! It'd be such an honor to hear him speak.
Dalai lama: "What do you think? Do you agree"
Everyone in the room: 😆👏👏
Love you dalai lama
Next level in life is for me to keep my good health and mind, so I can share love, light and happiness to all lovely souls i care and give all my respect for and that give me good carma in return.
God bless you all!
I want him to come to my college and do a seminar like this. I would love to attend a session.
I love this one Thanks for posting !
@monsterwins it's not just about the talk but also the walk. Dalai Lama obviously delivers what he preaches.
Being compassionate really means that one is unable to tolerate the suffering of someone else. I cannot go on with my life and ignore the suffering of someone else who I care about. I feel that I need to do something to help them.
"ready to say good bye" *waves*
I just got his book for my birthday "a guide to a meaningful life". Must one be compassionate even to the enemies?
I'm Catholic, it means the same thing. Jesus was a Buddha, I think a lot of people mistake Love your enemies, which means have compassion for your enemies. Everyone's a couple of acid drops away from being as compassionate as Dalai Lama
A rare voice of reason

This man is wise indeed we have to listen to him or else we will head down the wrong path in life.
Max Rafael Waller and Max Waller wrote "We all make mistakes. What should be the response? Should it be open to understand or narrow minded and draconian?"

I think Dalai Lama is a pretty cool guy. eh teaches compassion and doesn't afraid of anything.
@TheChupacapra i think it's partially because his holiness' English is soo hard to understand...
Now, English asides, he's a great role model
@freezingbeast That's true. No one is perfect. I get what you're saying, and in explaining it to a friend I told her "I could have said what he said, in fact I have.
