    Great tips for a new Mac user like me.
    I discovered that double clicking on an empty area at the top of the window does the same thing as zoom. It also expands the window to the size it needs to be to fit all the content.

    OMG thank you! The option/tile to change to "move" window to right/left is gold! I'm used to Windows OS. I have to say, I love Apple but man is it WAY easier to configure windows in Windows! Especially Windows 11 (you drag to the top of the screen and are now given different layouts to select from for 2 windows and more!). I'm a bit disappointed in Mac OS for not being as easy to use for this.

    If you want to use the keyboard to control window resizing you must install Magnet or Tiles. This improves MacOs by 1000%.
    This should be available by default on MacOs honestly.

    Very good video! Another way to move windows, that I only learned about today, is that you can hover over any edge and then drag in the same direction as that edge to drag the window, e.g. if you hover over the right side of the window and then drag up or down it will move the window. Very handy now that title bars seem to be a thing of the past for many apps.

    This is very good and useful. Is there ALSO a way to size and move the window so that it stays in that place and when closed and reopens it retains the location set? E.g. I want to keep Stage Manager visible on the left side, but have my Safari window use all the rest of the available space without blocking the menu and dock bars on top and bottom, and then have it always open in this position, rather than bounce back to a smaller size and having to re-size every time I open Safari?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 місяці тому

      You can, as the document window would remember. But a browser window isn't showing you a document like that. Instead, just don't ever close that window. Once you do, it is gone and when you create another window it is a NEW window. Using Stage Manager makes this easy as it should go away when you choose another App Set and then return when you choose the App Set with that window.

      In macOS Sonoma you can use Split View (3 actions: move to green button, click left, click to choose the second window). In macOS Sequoia you'll be able to do that still, plus drag to left, drag to right like in Windows.

    You verified that resizing windows should work just like on a PC. However, it sure isn't working on my MacBook Air with the most recent OS. I have System Preferences 'window' and a UA-cam 'window' (yours) on the screen, but the diagonal simply does not work on System Preferences, only the up vertical and horizontal. Yet the UA-cam window works all three ways no problem. So, I can't adjust both to each take up half the screen.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Рік тому +1

      That's because System Preferences has a fixed horizontal size. It is different than most other apps in that respect.

Is there a way around this? Im always presenting and its a pain always having to minimise the window so I can drag things over into the screen im sharing.

    • @macmost

      My guess is that you are not expanding the window in the first place, but perhaps switching it to Full Screen Mode, which is different. Don't take it into Full Screen Mode (clicking the green button) but simply resize the window to the edges of the screen (Option+double click a corner of the window for a quick way to do that).

By moving the window over I can grab the edge and drag it in a bit and then centre the window to make it fit. Is there anyway to fix this setting? The next time I open the window on the external monitor it reverts back to being over width again.

    One thing you didnt mention is what to do about the top edge of the display when there is an island (the camera). Example is on a macbook air. The island at the top middle prevents the window from being "dragged or expanded" beyond the lower edge of the island, not the actual display... I know I can make the window "full screen" and that will get around the island. Times i want a window to be as large as i can make it, but not full screen mode. How do i expand a window "behind' the island? And i have one other question...this is the MOST frustrating issue OF ALL for me in using an Apple computer: Finding the source of the audio that I hear playing. Often, I will have multiple tabs open on a browser window...and...often I will have multiple browser windows open. Lets assume I have 5 different Browser windows open and each has 30 tabs. The tabs are so small, they cant be read. I watch a video and hear the sound from one of the browser windows, from one of the tabs. And, i watch another video Play...etc. BUT NOW, my earbuds have launched one of the previous videos, its playing, i can hear it...BUT I CAN NOT FIND WHERE THAT VIDEO IS?? I CANT FIND THE VIDEO TO STOP IT FROM PLAYING! I now have to go to each window, open EACH tab, to see if it is THAT window and THAT tab where the video is playing...!? There MUST be a better way?? HELP!! SERIOUSLY! I CANT BE THE ONLY ONE HAVING THIS ISSUE...and I hope there is a simple solution you might know of how to reverse engineer the audio Im hearing...

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Рік тому

      I can't expand the window behind the notch. It helps to think of that space as for the Menu Bar only, or to think of it not as a notch but as extra space to the left and right of the camera (which is what it really is -- earlier MacBooks simply have a camera notch that goes all the way across the screen, right?) In Safari you should see the audio icon in the tabs that have audio.

    • @BenjaminWasHere
      @BenjaminWasHere Рік тому

      I get very busy n move fast…multiple windows to organize my thoughts on that window w multiple tabs on each window means…on a MacBook Air, 13” display, the tabs get busy and smaller smaller until I can’t even see if a tab has the little speaker, so going window my window looking for a tab with a tiny little speaker is impractical. Just having to go thru the windows manually searchin for a tab just seem silly, no? There have been time I had to close EVERY TAB, on every window to end the video from playing. There must be a faster more efficient n effective way to find video playing?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Рік тому

      Re the island, there is an app that I came across a month ago that allows you to spread open windows by dragging the edge of the window up to the edge of the display, “behind” the island…as if the island was not there…and now I can’t find that app…?
