I like how this movie treats the deaths of both sides with the same importance.
He didn’t die he got maimed though
Nasty business all around. Lots of injustice, hardship, pain and suffering. A terrible conflict all around.
Accept one side was torturing people and straight up genociding them.
It's always important to take into consideration the feelings of the oppressors
it was so fake, what really happened was far worse than this, the movie makes it out as if the Brits just made a mistake
Try to remember that this is the guy who accused Giuseppe of being a ringleader and got him a beating he never recovered from. The IRA guy seems cold blooded, but he's seen friends in a worse state and is desensitised to violence like this.
the IRA have since been exposed as a pedo ring
This is true, but if McAndrew hadn’t started that riot in the first place then Giuseppe would have never been beaten. This is a brilliant film for that reason-it shows the benefits of violence and non-violence, and treats both sides deaths equally, as a loss of a fellow “child of god” as Giuseppe puts it, but comes out on Giuseppe’s side for non-violence. While on the whole a thoroughly Republican film that supports self-determination.
I love how long it took the other guards to get off their arses and bring in the fire extinguishers.
Well I mean they didn’t expect someone to make a homemade flamethrower
PO barker got what was coming to him.
It's a movie 😂
About thirty seconds.
Not bad at all, honestly. People don't do well in these situations.
Damn that's an impressive stunt. He was on fire for quite awhile. Poor guard you come to work only to get barbacued.
Whoever the Stunt Coordinator of this movie deserves a raise.
They usually film something like this from 3 or 4 angles at once.
Wonder what they do or use to put someone on fire?
Looks like CO2 for the plot but maybe Halon for real on set depending on how they planned the stunt. CO2 is the standard substance in public institutions for small organic fires. Water would be for flammable solids like paper, textiles, or wood. Halon would never be used in a hand held device where it could be accessed by inmates when less toxic and cheaper CO2 would do.

@@drphot6050 not one of, he is the greatest
no
Marlon Brando, Humphrey Bogart, Robert De Niro, Orson Welles, DDL
That scene was fire. Daniel day Lewis and jack nicholson only three time Oscar winners
And -- to be fair -- Nicholson generally plays versions of himself. He's a great actor but you wouldn't cast him as FDR, right? I dunno that there's ever been a film actor with DDL's range, at least as a leading man. Lincoln, Christy Brown and Daniel Plainview aren't on any kind of spectrum that I can see.
No, Meryl Streep and Walter Brennan have also won three, whilst Katharine Hepburn actually has four.
“Fire”
Frances McDormand has 3. So does Streep. Katheryn Hepburn wins with 4
@@pauldonnelly910 You need to watch “Hoffa”. Nicholson played an FDR type role there and was perfect. And do you really think DDL could play characters like Randal P McMurphy or Melvin Udall as well as Nicholson? Doubt it, that’s why it’s silly to compare acting styles
This is why we can’t have nice things.
Yeah now the boys in jail will never be able to watch movies again
@@giovannicervantes2053 they still play movies in prison,, its just you have too be in your cell too watch them.

Even the most well disciplined prison guards wouldn’t be able to resist the urge to give the prisoners an indiscriminate kicking right there and then.
All prison guards are thugs & 2 legged dogs wielding big sticks
One of the greatest actors of all time (Daniel Day Lewis) watching two of the greatest actors of all time (Al Pacino and Marlon Brando) beautiful.
DDL mops the floor with both of them......
So this is where Snake got the idea for a improvised flamethrower...
Any spray can will do it
It can also be done with powdered coffee creamer. A lot of prisons banned it for that reason.
Lol no way would the guards not hammer him to the floor
It is kinda funny to me how so many movies are willing to completely dehumanize a character for a mild annoying trait. But killing a guy who's definitely has a hand in multi- generational oppression of your country? You can't kill him with fire that would be rude.
@@plantain.1739 it was so fake, what really happened was far worse than this, the movie makes it out as if the Brits just made a mistake, when really they planned it all out to set the 4 & Maguire 7 up.
I love that they included this scene. I think it represents the main issue with the troubles. Yes the corrupt English government were bad but so were IRA terrorists. And at the end of the day its the innocent that suffer at the hand of both groups. The innocent English and Irish people that died in terrorist attacks and the innocent Irish people who were framed for crimes they didn’t commit.
Guess he never heard of stop, drop, and roll.

God have mercy on his soul, worse way to go out.
Luckily he lived and his burns don't look *too* bad, common misconception but it actually takes a disturbingly long amount of time to die from burning. The cop burned for 32 seconds, usually it takes at least a minute and sometimes minutes.
@@josephanderson8655 Oh, ok so it's not too bad, thanks!

Literally! Ireland should be ruled by the Irish. That's my opinion.
@VVV Well, at least the US defeated the U.K.. lol
@VVV lol
I agree Ireland is for pure Irish 🇮🇪 only. NO BLACK AND TANS or other types of British rule allowed in the island of ireland.
@@user-iw6gn7jf1p I agree. A lot of people don't realize it, but England was corrupted by Rome. Just like the US is really part of the old Roman Empire. I wish that we could get that trash out of this country too. They are scum. Ireland still has hope.

War
Surely not all the guards deserved that??? I havent seen the the whole movie
Not all of the guards were bad. The context of this scene is basically that the guy who did it was pretty much a psychopath who just wanted to kill a guard to watch him die, meanwhile the guy had no part of the IRA/Troubles situation that had overran Ireland at the time.
It wasn't a guard, it was the warden.
The PIRA and other Republican paramilitaries considered all British Security Forces within Northern Ireland as fair play for killing, and launched a campaign which eventually killed hundreds of British soldiers and policemen in various bombings/ambushes across Northern Ireland, aimed at pushing pressure on Britain to withdraw from Northern Ireland. Any member of the British Army, Royal Ulster Constabulary or Northern Ireland Prison Service could find themselves under attack and killed. In total, 705 British soldiers were killed, of which 1 was killed in an open gun battle, the rest in bombings or ambushes. 301 policemen and 24 prison guards were also killed, again largely in ambushes and bombings.
Outside of Northern Ireland, the PIRA also killed a handful of British servicemen (including 4 RAF pilots and 2 Royal Navy sailors) and 6 policemen (of these, 5 were killed while attempting to search/defuse PIRA bombs, and the last was killed by a rogue PIRA member in a traffic stop).

Narrative of Self is the result of a feedback loop between “Separate Self” & Cosmos ❤️ Non-Duality
What are you talking about
@@Bruh-hq1hx In the same way there is a feedback loop when we engage in self talk and not a genuine back and forth between two sources, the same thing occurs with the Narrative of Self. It’s the story we tell to ourselves about ourselves, ie subjective rationalization. There appears to be a cosmos and you separate within it, this illusion is what leads to the feedback loop. Non-Duality. I have a short vid on my channel that elaborates. ✌️&♥️
😱😱💖
So did this actually happen?
I Think its based on something
The film is based on the life of Gerry Conlon, who was imprisoned for a crime he had no part in (Guildford pub bombings), basically, he was only guilty of being a) Irish and b) in the wrong place at the wrong time. I don't know if this particular incident happened exactly as depicted here, but I seem to recall that he described one very much like this in his autobiography "Proved Innocent".
@@gozerthegozarian9500 I know that. I mean the fire
