This time of year, by the time I finish morning chores, it's time to do night chores, and bring in the horses. Lately, I've been thinking about leaving this homesteading life, everything is just so hard. We've been doing this for more than 10 years, so its a monumental thing to think about quitting. Thank you for sharing this video, because I, for one, NEEDED to hear it. (Now I'm off to race the sunset lol)❤ Happy Solstice everyone; the light is returning 🌞
God planned this for you. What you learn makes you a survivor in any circumstance, and teaches your children resilience, persistence, compassion, and fortitude. How have your hearts changed since the beginning? You already know this...about finding joy in any circumstance. I don't need to tell you. We love you and all you're doing. Perfect is overrated. I'll take real all day long. xoxo
This message really resonates with me. Over the last eight years, our farm has grown and changed. It’s changed in ways we never really imagined and has had to shift and adjust to our life. It really has grown to be a beautiful thing. Thank you for sharing this sentiment.
Only take from the earth what is needed. This way of life checks that box and also leaves to earth what has not been utilized . Giving back your the earth . The cycle is the circle . So beautiful isn’t it. Hard but beautiful . This too is a gift for our souls .
Shaye and Stu, I've been watching for years now! Your growth as individuals, a family, and a farm is so authentic. You just keep getting better, while staying humble. Thank you for sharing so much and keeping it real. Merry Christmas!🎄✨️
For me, winter means compost! Leaves fall, plants die, everything shrivels up and breaks down in the soil. The chickens continue to poop and as long as I move their bedding around every now and again, it doesn’t get too compact. Come spring, I have compost galore. I usually have enough to top off the beds and don’t have to buy anything to amend the soil.
Oh man I needed to hear this today! Thank you thank you. Sometimes it feels like I’m failing because the list of to dos never gets shorter. But if I can remember to look around and see what I’ve accomplished it makes it better. Thanks for encouraging us to continue with joyful hearts even thru the winter/difficult times. Merry Christmas and thank you for inspiring this homesteader.
Having the imperfect farm is how many survive these days! 😅 We adopted three kids last year and our farm is in shambles. 😂😳 We laugh it off and realize that there will be a season to rework the farm. Cheers to this authentic video!! 🙌🏻
Value what you do. Believe in what you do. Reward is different for each of us. What one finds rewarding, another wouldn't. Being content with your life, being satisfied with your choices is most certainly rewarding.
This is for other people starting a garden. 2 things I learned with the no dig method, is don't put any sort of sides on your garden beds. The weeds will grow up through them and you'll have to pull them. And leave enough room in between your beds to mow the weeds down. That way you don't have to keep wasting money and energy mulching and weeding the paths. I made sure I could drive the tractor on my paths too, so I could dump mulch on the beds and harvest/clean up with the tractor bucket instead of a wheel barrow. That's not feasible for everyone though
I so enjoyed this video.. my garden looks like yours. Still have all 52 tomato plants attached to the cattle panels along with all my zinnias, marigolds, large stalks of sunflowers. Lol and unfortunately it's right out my back kitchen window to see everyday. Lol but like you said give yourself grace. In God's time I will get it cleaned up for next spring . Love your honesty and your raw look on the farm. Have a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year. God is so Good to us.
This resonates with me. Even though I only have chickens and a garden anymore I know what you’re talking about. I remember being on a farm in the Winter and doing cold chores, milking cows and then 1 day spring comes again.
I always felt this way at the end of January/beginning of February after a huge ice storm hit and froze my wood pile in 🫤. Just think warmth ,no frozen pipes. Get ti ice pick and shovel and start bashing😂! Take a deep breath and carry on🤗. Merry Christmas 🌟🎄🎅. JO JO IN VT 💞☃️
Watching this, I am reminded of the words of Friedrich Nietzsche "You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way, and the only way, it does not exist."
Yes I agree I get fed up of All the promotions that I am not interested in buying at all . But just love to see the normal content of you’re homesteading life which I love ,
wow what type of dog is that? it looks alot like mine! that i got as a stray ~ always wondered what she is.....:) thanks for the videos ive been watching many years ~ cheers 🙂
If you trust in the Lord you all wont have to worry about any of that stuff because we serve an unchanging God. Jesus is coming soon! Just imagine the gardens up there. Ive seen some and they defy reason. Awesome! HalleluYah that we have a blessed hope!!
EVERY time you post a video you try and sell us something. I wish you would take a break from always trying to sell something. Especially in this economy. We all aren't as lucky as you to be able to buy all the time. I just had to get this off my mind so no disrespect meant.
Sponsorships and sales is their bread and butter. Do you want the content for free? How would the Elliott family be able to afford their lives as well as camera equipment to bring you along?
Perhaps you forget that this is their JOB. Would you like to do your job without getting paid? It's a blessing we get to watch this video for free, the least we can do is watch a minute long ad. Also, they are not merely lucky. They have clearly worked very hard for the money they have. Shame on you.

Oh, I LOVE how you painted your kitchen door and window! Looks SO great!
Your farm is a metaphor of life; each new day is a project, in and of itself. It's a constant process of living, learning, planning, enjoying.😊
I missed this format! I love to hear you and Stu converse over the video❤.

Thank you, I don’t feel so bad now. We always have a list of things that need to get fixed. Never enough time.

What a lovely relaxed chat.... Perfect.... XXX
Loved the video Shaye!
Saw your dried okra on the stems. Those are great to paint into Santa Claus' 🎅 Google and UA-cam search it. Fun activity for the kids! 😊❤
To everything there is a season...
Being real 👍🏻

Amazing video 📹.. marry Christian to you ❤ and your amazing family 👪
Sometimes you just need to be told it's ok. Thanks
Is the cupboard in the beginning of the video new?
Never heard of two hours of sunlight in winter where you’re living. Grew up there. Did you suddenly move to Alaska?
wow what type of dog is that? it looks alot like mine! that i got as a stray ~ always wondered what she is.....:) thanks for the videos ive been watching many years ~ cheers 🙂
Maybe an Australian Shepard(?) Someone in our neighborhood walks one everyday and she said that's what it is
❤❤❤❤
How do you protect sheep in the dark? I would love sheep on our grassy acres but coyotes- so defeating.
I see your tall fences.
Where is Rex?

Они продают, рекламируют хорошие товары, в этом нет ничего плохого, если лично вам не нравится реклама, просто ускорьте время этой рекламы 😉
Perhaps you forget that this is their JOB. Would you like to do your job without getting paid? It's a blessing we get to watch this video for free, the least we can do is watch a minute long ad.

The commercials are definitely annoying, but you can just fast forward. ☺️
All so true.. Vancouver Island similar to you!❤ @WestCoastGrandma
