Her husband cheated on her with the wife of the guy doing the ad for UTZ. So, Betty is reminded and pissed.

I never understood why he went for that woman who had the face of a dog’s anal gland when he had Betty Draper - it does not make sense. Anyone who is in a relationship and cheats on their partner who is good to them is scum

@@allisonharranmua8193 Adultery is *more* common nowadays, so yes, those were the "good old days."

@Random Commenter no adultery is more spoken about now. It's no more common now than it was then. The culture was just different. Women stayed with men who disrespected them. They never spoke of it because society saw it as the woman's failure if the man strayed. There was no room in society for lgbtq+ relationships so often those from that community would cheat in silence instead of allowing their orientation to be known. Now people just love who they love to begin with, and that kind of cheating has diminished. It used to be thought only men cheat, know we accept that women do too. We used to silently stay because of the stigma of divorce. Now, we leave the cheaters, shame them loudly, and divorce them for their betrayal. You hear about adultery more, but it is certainly not more common. We just stopped living in LA LA land about it.

@@randomcommenter3189 I think the comment was more about independence and agency. Cheating might be more common, but at least a woman has an easier time having her own bank account and moving out.

Sometimes the only way to get a better picture image was to have someone touch the antenna while other people watched. That was pretty tough if you were all alone.

Tin foil rolled up into a long stick shape and attacehd to the antenna used to work for me and sometimes touching the foil to the wall made it even better.

This basically how Herz and those chaps figured it all out; walking around improvising antennas. But they graphed the results and found wavelengths in their antennas whereas most people cargo-cult their way through primetime.

    It’s a perfect scene:
the program has a boy talking about losing his girlfriend,
with whom he used to split a soda at the mall,
after seeing another guy at the end of his straw…
then the Utz ad asks “am I crazy?”,
which is how Betty was feeling as she searched high and low for proof of Don’s infidelity,
    and, most importantly,
seeing Jimmy in the ad that precipitated the Don/Bobbi affair,
reminds Betty of her “night on the town” that “turned ugly” as Jimmy told the truth about her husband.
    Incredible writing.

Can someone who was alive to experience it please answer this for me; Did the tv picture really look like that back then? With the blurry, shaky image? If so, do you remember around what year the picture improved to the point where images no longer blurred like that? Thank you so much in advance for responding. 🤗

Yes! But it all depended on the reception you got ftom the TV antenna. The antenna was either on the roof of your house or on the TV itself (if you lived in an apartment, for ex.) Also the channel selector on the TV was a big dial on the front of the set that you turned either clockwise or counterclockwise to scroll thru the channels. When you saw a show you liked, you stopped turning & that channel stayed on. In this video the TV has no dail, it had a remote control which was similar to what we use today. In the NYC area, you only had 7 channels to choose from: 2 (CBS), 4 (NBC), 5 (WNEW now Fox), 7 (ABC), 9 (WOR), 11 (WPIX), & 13 (PBS); that was it! Also in time the dial wore out internally (from use) causing the channels to come in fuzzy too.
It only got better when cable became available. Then you left the channel on the TV say on Channel 3 for ex., and changed channels by pushing the buttons on a cable box.
      Hope this helps!

    • @ModeratelyAmused
      @ModeratelyAmused Рік тому +1

it didn't improve immediately. people forget that most channels didn't have enough material to fill a daily schedule. it was filled with a lot of reruns of older shows and movies. when they had a new movie, they played it 4 times a day, sometimes more, for a week, sometimes more. it was the tv version of radio.

I couldn't understand about "cable" being a big deal in the 1980s. We had cable TV from the late 1960s on. There was something on from channel 2 to 13. Of course, they were all "broadcast" channels from Clarksburg, Pittsburgh, Johnstown, Wheeling, and Steubenville. Things began to change with HBO and Showtime. Then came the converter boxes, then cable ready TV. But I still remember high quality "Cable TV" from the 1970s that stayed on no matter what the weather. We never got anything but snow and static on our UHF dial, but we didn't have an antenna, either.

Well cable got better reception, but cost. Antennas like radios were free. And the broadcasting station we’re getting more powerful to reach more area, but as cable became more popular, weren’t maintained or improved, and we lost free tv and maybe more important lost control.
