Quarantine's got me watching the clock on the edge of my seat strike 11am (in Vancouver) to watch these lads hit some digital balls in holes. Love life.
Now all we now need is a real game of golf with food, imagine the out come of what our lads will look like hitting a four with eggs and tomatos, potatos ect ect.
The tree falling in the forest question is based on the idea of sound just being a very narrow frequency vibration (like visible light) that we call sound. Since all energy and matter and everything else in the known universe is also vibrations of various frequency, "sound" becomes meaningless unless heard (as we defined the frequency of "sound")
That doesn't change people from taking bits and pieces of completely unrelated studies and philosophical questions, and trying to use them to 'support' conspiracy theories, which is what I think, perhaps unintentionally, the boiks were making a joke of "If that tree doesn't make sound while I'm not around to hear it, then the world's flat until I see it not be flat" and other things like that
Trott gave an incorrect example for the if a then b makes sound. It has to be if no one is around will it make a sound. But if no one is around to turn the waves and vibration into sound is it still considered sound?
sound doesn't just affect your ear drums lol. it affects everything else too. sound affects things physically. even though no human observed it, when it actually happened, the affect of a sound can be STILL observed by humans AFTER the fact. it's a poor analogy. the cat one works much better, even still, that is also a bad analogy because you can just wait a month and guarantee the cat is dead. leaving out all ambiguity
You may not hear a tree fall in the woods but you may experience a reaction of the tree calling. Which is what sound is. Its a reaction and experience. So say you're driving down the road and a tree falls where you may not hear it but a squirrel or fox or deer are frightened by it causing them to run out in front of you as you're driving possibly causing you to crash. So you experience the sound of the tree falling. That's my answer.
This and the latest Rocket League video just confirm that Ross and Smith get off on talking about the most irrelevant shit while Trott suffers in despair. It's beautiful.
If you guys think you get those kinda perks for having a Marks and Spencers account, you should try working for them. Get those eggs for dirt cheap after XD
Two things I got from this video, first, I need a lizard cam on every Hatfilms video from now on, sorry Trott, your dog is cute, but not lizard cute and second, with all of the shit that Ross comes up with and does research on, his internet "profile" must be horrendous as must his recommended and what ever he gets as adds.

Forgeting the perception dictating reality business. Sound is vibration observed by ears. If no one is there, it will still vibrate, but there will be no sound.
@@JustSiobhan That could also be it. The point of the question is really just to make you think. There is no true answer. At least from a philosophical standpoint
Wtf is up with the lizard picture in the bottom right? Is Smith trying to hide his stroke count or something? Cuz if he is then he isn't doing a particularly good job.
"The world is flat until I've seen it be round" I mean technically that was true until the first person discovered it to be round, it could have been flat and we never would have known for sure until we saw it. Perception is reality... at least as far as you know.
I've always thought that the question, "If a tree falls, and no one is around to hear it, does it really make a sound?", is arrogantly ego-centric. To put all of this into perspective, you can readily go online and find evidence of a nearly incomprehensively massive universe which has existed for nearly incomprehensible amounts of time. To think that this incredible ultimate reality of our plane of existence relies entirely on the perception of you, the individual and infinitesimally small speck in all of spacetime, is massively ego-centric. I also think that this odd form of metaphysical relativism is the result of imbalanced nihilism. I won't be so "high-and-mighty" as to write off all of nihilistic philosophy, but I think that at least one or more lines of thought come to the conscious or subconscious conclusion, "If nothing truly matters and I have agency to do whatever I want, why do I have to listen to what anyone else says? All I need to do is come up with some bullshit excuse to write off everyone else's opinions and experiences, and I can say or do whatever I please." (I should mention that I think this conclusion is more subconscious than an overtly conscious statement)
@@MrBillyd10 Depends how you define sound. As it is, the tree will have made vibrations through a medium that can be heard by a human or animal. Key word being "can". Yes it makes a sound. And yes we need to stop spending our time on trivial riddles, perhaps that thought is better spent on how to keep Philosophy students off drugs.
