I inherited my uncle's 300 Weatherby Magnum that he purchased in 1972. It has the most beautiful stock I have ever seen on a rifle.

I inherited my grandfather's Southgate California 300 Weatherby, it has a serial number of 804. He traveled down to southgate california and bought it directly from Roy and they test shot it in the basement. I still have a fair amount of brass that he fireformed from the 300 H&H, as at the time It was very hard to find 300 Weatherby factory ammo up here in Canada. That brass has been reloaded more than a 20 times and is still in good shape.

I too inherited my uncle's 300 Weatherby Magnum that he also purchased in 1972. The stock is amazing and the rifle is significantly lighter than my dad's Sako 7mm Rem Mag that he bought in 1973.

Got a brand new left-handed .300 Weatherby in a Mark V Lazermark stock with a 26" barrel for my birthday in 1983, and still have it. Not only beautiful, but it performs as good as the day I got it. Love that thing.

Since you have mentioned a rapidity 6.5, in Europe, it is evident that you know it, we have, although not very used, a 6.5x68 that comes from nothing less than the 8x68s, both from 1939. It is an exceptional cartridge but it is difficult to find chambered weapons. Usually expensive and, as you can imagine, with a recoil to take into account. Thanks for the channel and a happy new year from Spain.

Great information. I shoot a 270 wby mag and a 300 wby mag. The 300 I bought with factory brake. This truly makes it a pleasure to shoot and a total choice for women and those of us big guys who like to shoot a lot without the recoil.

The .375 has been defunct for 69 years and hasn't been made since 1950 and the ammunition discontinued in 1960. The .375 Weatherby rifles date back before there was even a Weatherby action i am quite certain of. In 1950 I am thinking that his rifles were still being built on FN Mauser actions. I would love to see an original Hollywood Weatherby FN Mauser rifle. That would be something very awesome and collectable and valuable.

Naively, there are two opposite end-goals with high-velocity long-distance shooting.
    1. Target shooting where trajectory and repeatability ...not lethality...are important; 6.5 Creadmoor, etc.
and 2. Hunting where lethality...energy, expansion and cold barrel accuracy...are important; 7mm mag., .30-06, etc.

      @tedb.5707 4 роки тому +3

A long distance paper target or a steel don't really require much velocity, expansion nor terminal energy. Just get there accurately with multiple rounds fired from a warm or even hot barrel multiple times.

Colt-Sauer made a fantastic bolt action chambered in 300 Weatherby Mag. My old man took one caribou hunting in northern Quebec and shoot out at ranges where the bullet spray on the tundra would mark for elevation and the round still tipped over animals out at distance.

I was at the range one day;range being an over statement, it was a clearing on forest service land. Any way there was a guy shooting .300 Weatherby. He rolled his own and said most of the time he only loaded it to .30-06 power but then would load some to full power for when he went out west to elk hunt. That’s the beauty of big magnums if you load your own. You don’t HAVE to load them to factory spec. You can make them weaker so you aren’t killing your shoulder on smaller game but still have the power for big stuff and not have to buy a bigger gun

Another fun video boys. It is a point of boastful local pride that I live and farm only a few miles from where Roy Weatherby grew up here in central Kansas. I've known several people of his generation who went to school with him. Sadly they are all gone now. One of them was a very successful local business man and very good friend of mine. About 1982 he wanted to get one of his retiring employees something other than the traditional gold watch etc. One phone call to Roy and voila, a Mark V was shipped directly from the factory to a local gun store in time for the employee's retirement celebration.
Roy's first cartridge, developed in 1943 was his 270. It WAS based on the 300 H&H case but would fit in a standard length action. If I could afford one it would be the 270 or 257. I refer to most of his creations as Roy Weatherby Meat Destroyers.
I know that the Weatherby cartridges and rifles were and are great technical and ballistic advances, but some of the things that Roy spouted were pure BS then and now. I just watched a Utube video of a film from the late 1940's or very early 1950's that was obviously a promotion by Weatherby. It featured Roy himself being interviewed and shooting his 300 side by side with a 30-06. In the film he proclaimed that the 300 Weatherby Magnum was the world's most powerful rifle AND that it didn't matter where you hit an animal. It would be instantly dead from shock! He also claimed that his 300 would stop a charging elephant or anything else in its tracks. The 300 Weatherby may have been the world's most powerful bolt action rifle at the time, but I doubt that it could match the big 450's and larger double rifles used for dangerous African game. Come to think of it, I wonder how it compared to a 416 Rigby bolt gun. The 458 Winchester wasn't there yet. No matter what velocity I don't think there was or is any 30 caliber bullet that is strong enough to stop a charging elephant. Does Barnes make a .308 diameter 200 grain solid?! It's no wonder that Elmer Keith was about to explode when Roy started talking and Jack O'Connor was consistently taking elk with the 270 Winchester. Of course Elmer thought the 30-06 was a minimum for White Tails and with the exception of the 35 Whelen, anything less than the 375 H&H for elk was ludicrous!
Keep up the videos boys! For shear historical reference and entertainment, If I can figure out how to do it, I'll send a link to the Weatherby video. I'm almost as old as the film.

I shoot the 180 grain nosler partitions in it, and I don't think I will ever need a different gun, unless I go for brown bears up north. Simply phenomenal performance in every which way. But ot does cost around 80 or 85 bucks for 20 rounds. Not a plinking gun for sure. Honestly, recoil isn't bad. With the muzzle break, I feel like it kicks the same as my 308 without a break. Very, very manageable. My nephew, who is 11 years old shoots it without a problem

I ended up buying a 300 WBY to push monolithics faster to ensure reliable expansion at ranges beyond 400 yards. It works great! If you like splat and gore, it exceptional coyote cartridge. Not great on hides. I have actually blown the front off-shoulder from the carcass.

The 340 Weatherby mag cartridge but the 300 Weatherby mag cartridge, my first hunting rifle cartridge, both will get the job done, but the 300 Weatherby has less, causing discomfort when shooting it. Love the cartridge.

Fantastic choice for a discussion. In 2019 I decided to actually not just talk about getting a .30 cal to compliment my .270 but buy one if I found the right deal. I was looking at the Tikka T3 in .300 WSM for a long time, but never jumped on it. The .300 WBY was in my list since I wanted something different than my Dad and bros’ .300 Win Mag. I wanted to shoot a rifle in this because I heard it is a shoulder stomper, even though I am not recoil shy, but I couldn’t find someone to let me do that. I ended up finding a deal on a Savage M110 Long Range Hunter in 300 WSM for $565 down from $900 and went with that. If I could have found a Vanguard in .300 WBY Mag for a similar deal I might have went with my own Evil Roy.

My 300 Wea Mag is in a Win Model 70 SS. I’ve tried a lot of bullets on elk and the 190/Hornady BT just puts em down faster than any other bullet. The 180/Partition is also good. Too bad Hornady stopped making the 190 Interlock.

I have had 2 300wbys as my hunting rifles for 20+ years now . They both shoot amazing with handloads and im suprised yours beat you up as mine seen very manageable. Both have brakes but both have been the go to by choice for several young hunters including my daughter who is ten getting her first deer this year. The only drawback for me is that in recent years the brass is getting harder to come by.

The value of the 300 Wheatherby to me is in the heavy bullets. A 225 grain bullet with a BC of 0.690 has a lot of energy at very long range. On the range I could always tell when someone was shooting a Wheatherby or a Winchester 30 caliber because the extreme impact a long time before hearing the report of the rifle. We were at the target to mark the shots.

Id like see a talk comparing weatherby loadings and nosler loadings
    6.5-300 v 26
    270 weatherby v 27
    300 weatherby v 30
    340 weatherby v 33
Seams both makers look to achieve the same with their offerings-Ultra performance. Who does it better?
I’ve got a 26, and two different mark V’s one chambered in 270 weatherby and one in 300 weatherby
    Great show guys

Sorry about so many posts but believe it or not I load and shoot a 35 Whelen using a 225 grain bullet and my average velocity is 2816 at muzzle. A 300 Wheatherby using a 220 grain bullet is listed in the Nosler loading manual at 2841 fps. The big difference is the 30 caliber bullet with the high sectional density flies so nice and the 35 slows much faster.

The 340 Weatherby uses the same case & hits harder than 375 H&H, & is great for Big Bears in 250 grain Nosler partition.
    Always thought highly of Weatherbys.
But should have allowed other rifle makers to use their cartridges.
It is fact that Weatherby thought high velocity kills by causing tissue to disintegrate. I think his point has been proved time and again.

Hello gents!!! So what's your take on the 300 RUM when compared to the 300 Weatherby Mag and the 300 Norma Mag? To be honestn I LOVE the the 300 RUM but feel that it's only being handicapped by the manufacturers poor decision to continue to mfr barrels with the ancient 1-in-10 twist instead of a more modern 1-in-9 or 1-in-8ish.
    Any thoughts??
    Thanks, Ken from NJ

I think I've been spoiled by the 6.5 Creedmoor. The .300 Mags which used to feel quite reasonable, now seem to have come to life and they don't like me very much. Evil indeed. Still, when I saw an extraordinary Lazerguard, the .300 Wby was the only way to go. I'd just as soon have had traditional checkering but the figure in that stock was irresistible. "Take my money".
