Very fair point. It is just a mask, but somehow through the cybernetic augmentation (On a child and against her consent, just really rubbs me the wrong way.) Cassie is forced to keep it on, I mean if it was a demonic mask like say, Majora's Mask, that would make sense.

Mxes locks it to her head if she's too close. They're like their own AR inhibitor, just without the range of the ones they can activate. That's why it can't be taken off until you get further away again (or until an inhibitor is deactivated if there is one nearby)

@@nonnn6884 the vanni mask is ar, meaning that it adds to/changes what you see. The nodes are purely in the network, and the mask visualizes them for the wearer to interact with them. Same goes for M.X.E.S., he only exists in the network but the mask visualizes him for you.

If you get away from M.X.E.S you can remove the mask, if that doesn't work you have to disable the device that M.X.E.S activates to allow you to use and remove the mask again.

Well considering the color of HELPI's eyes were orange when they said it's best not to remove the mask, AFTER Blue Eyed HELPI said "The foreign entity can't track you here"
It's a possible conclusion that the mimic didn't want to lose Cassie's location thanks to the mask being used. *If she was to remove the mask there, and possibly leave it there. The mimic would not be able to find her again.*
Aka the unknown entity HELPI mentioned was not the MXES system *After all that entity was part of the Pizzaplex security system*
The mimic possibly delayed the original message earlier, in that HELPI detected the mimic's interactions with the player but the later just delayed the message towards what it wanted cassie to destroy.

AR inhibitors can either make you unable to put on the mask or take it off.
Also, sometimes you just can't take off the mask to make for a more tense section.

It might have to do with the chip the mask implanted into her head. Maybe it physically connects to it to make it impossible to take off.
