    Hi man,
    When you said nonstrech braid did you still tie a mono or fluorocarbon leader onto your braid or is your braid just tied to the hook

    Great fish! I love soft baits but the biggest problem for me is deciding which ones to get. You are often confronted with a whole wall of em at your tackle shop! Any tips on how you decide?

      Thanks Music Islife, thanks for the idea on another video and I will do something on this. The best advice without writing a huge explanation is match the softbait with the area you are fishing and what the species are feeding on which can be anything from small bait fish to crabs or even shrimp. Size also comes into play and I have found smaller baits can produce just as well as larger ones. Colour is another aspect so try to use whats around the area. Another option that may be of help can be found on my Patreon channel I have a great article amoungst other things that deal with this there. Here's the link: www.patreon.com/nzkayakfishing

      NZ Kayak Fishing thanks mate, sounds like good advice. I find you can't really rely on your tackle shop guys to give you advice, after all, they are in the business of selling tackle :)

    • @NZkayakfishing
      @NZkayakfishing  6 років тому

      Agree some stores are not that great when it comes to sound advice especially when they don't use them however when you find a good one they can be very forth coming with excellent advice. I try not to sell something to make a dollar in our store and often advise some anglers against making a purchase unnecessarily, but that me :-)

      NZ Kayak Fishing I need to buy from you :) I just try to remember that most of these lures catch more fishermen than fish and try to limit the number of patterns I carry.

    Are you ever going to do a bait and burley session for the other 20 percent of us kayak fisherman? Would be good to see .cheers

    • @NZkayakfishing
      @NZkayakfishing  6 років тому

      99.99% of my kayak fishing is done using artificial lures so bait use its not something I do even when going to places like Taranaki. I love the challenge lures provide so its hard to go back to bait fishing when you can catch all you need with lures. Bait is something I used to do but on the kayak lures are so much better. What in particular do you want to see Josh? I have some things available on my Patreon channel but you have already expressed your intention not to support this.

    Great video rob and perfectly timed with next weekends softbait competition up north. Will you be fishing that event?

    • @NZkayakfishing
      @NZkayakfishing  6 років тому +5

      Thanks Jamie yep didn't even consider the timing but may help some. Na don't do comps like this and not really into killing big fish mate especially when it leaves things open to high grading, its time we started adopting a measure and photo system I reckon. I am first to admit to killing a few big snapper but eventually you learn from it and start to respect things a bit more including the environment and its creatures within, just my opinion mate cheers

      NZ Kayak Fishing I respect that Rob. Not something I need to worry about though as my PB from the yak is only 60cm (which I was stoked about)! I’m heading up with East Auckland Kayak Fishing Club. Good excuse for a weekend fishing somewhere new. I’m more motivated by collecting a feed for the family than actually competing but it’s cool to hear your view on this. Always enjoy your videos man.

    Just wondering if anyone has look into weather softbaits are causing any problems in the enviros we use heaps of them but also loose heaps.

    • @NZkayakfishing
      @NZkayakfishing  4 роки тому +1

      I share the same concerns and when it comes to soft plastics which can often be referred to as softbaits which they are not. For this reason I only use Berkley Gulp because "Gulp! is made of a water-based polymer, unlike many other soft-plastics that are oil-based PVC. That allows use of a wider variety of smells, because the Gulp attractant is also water based, and oil and water don't mix. Naturally, fish can smell water-soluble liquids better than anything else, and the material allows the baits to hold and release much more scent. In terms of the effect on the environment, In a well-run landfill, a Gulp! bait will be gone in 8 to 10 months. In saltwater, they generally last one to two years, and about the same or a little less in fresh, again depending on current, water clarity and temperature." Soft plastic's made from PVC could be around for a lot longer and no one really knows but with the plastic problem in our world these days it sure makes sense to use Berkley Gulp and besides it works much better as above
      cheers
