Can't wait to see this build! Being from Indiana, I, too, have visited the U-505 a few times. I checked and this boat is a type VIIC and the U-505 is a type IXC, which was similar but thirty feet longer and held more torpedoes. Not impossible but probably improbable...anyway, enjoyed the Stingray build and am ready for this one...good luck!
Looking forward to following along on this epic build! You should also check out the movie "Das Boot". It's an older movie (early 80's I believe) and supposed to be a very realistic portrayal of life on a U-boat in WWII.
You will have your hands full on this one. I thought greyhound was very well done. The story is a compilation of several different real-life actions by different ships. If my memory serves me. My Dad was a tin can sailor but served throughout the war in the pacific theater.
I’m currently working on 3 different kits at the same time, I’m building the Monkeemobile, the car from The Beverly Hillbillies, and an original Beetlejuice movie inspired 59 Cadillac ambulance, I’m using the scene where Beetlejuice and Lydia get married as the main inspiration for the build, Oh and I put together a ghost of The Red Baron kit too.
G'day mate Kiwi here, subscribed and looking forward to your build, I'm currently partway through building the Trumpeter Titanic 1/200 with the KA upgrade kit and already looking at this same kit as my next project.
Paul, regarding the relative sizes of the Trumpeter 1/48 Type VII U-boat and the Revell 1/72 Gato class boat, they are almost the same size kits due to the 1:1 scale u-boat being almost 2/3 the size (220 ft vs. 311 ft) than its American counterpart. Scales out to just over 55 in for the u-boat, just under 52 inches for the Gato.
Hi, I've built this U boat. It took me 2 years on evenings and weekends, I used the same lighting and sound kit i can give you some great tips on making it user friendly and easier to install, there is also a lot of detail you needent bother with as cant be seen when the front clear plastic is on which is a shame there's a lot of work in this boat but great when finished ! Paint wise i used Vallejo Kriegsmarine set and Sets 1 and 2 from Lifecolour, Enjoy and best of luck if i can give you any advice or any pictures to help just message me.
If I ever get down to visit, I'll have a place to stay, just leave one of the 'heads" aka stinkatorium, full of food for me Cap'n Paulie!! That is a WHOPPER! Jack ~'()'~

This is going to be an intense ride! I thought a Tamiya 1/12 scale formula one was insane, haha. I'll be watching.

@@notbuyingit6253 Thank you. It’s such a process between research, planning, & building..
@Garron1212 thanks for that. It’s good to see others doing this kit. Be good to hear other ideas.

I’d say that the big tubes are air intakes for the engines
