One of the finalists (not the winner) in the Chalamet lookalike competition went to my university. I had the displeasure of interacting with him a few times. He was known for being very pretentious and narcissistic, as well as only hitting on freshman girls when he was a senior. One of the clubs he was in did an "awards show" for the year where the "hosts" made a joke comparing him to Leonardo DiCaprio and peoples jaws dropped. He got PISSED about it. He "casually" wore a skirt once and wouldn't shut up about it because he wanted people to clap and call him a feminist icon or something. He was like a minor campus celebrity for being completely insufferable. Seeing this competition in the news and knowing that this guy is in all the photos has been my curse for the past several weeks. I haven’t watched any UA-cam videos about it purely from spite but I will never skip a Jordan vid lmao

I recently discovered ikea as a third space.. you can meet your friend walk around sit on couches talk and have a cheap meal/snack. I did this with a friend recently to search for decor inspo and it felt like a very present experience

      @EzraSprouts 23 дні тому +39

Yes! Free tea and coffee on weekdays for the IKEA fam, good wheelchair access, no-one hassles you if you hang out for ages and don't buy anything. I mean, they filmed the soap IKEA Heights without getting kicked out! I also know someone who had an IKEA birthday party where there's a list of games to play in store, totally free and goofy fun

The gender dynamics of humour section really resonated with me. As a part of a group that’s very dominated by males, I often notice this phenomenon where I make a joke to no laughter and then one of the boys will either think of the same thing a second later or just flat out take it and say it and everyone will laugh. Like the exact same thing I said 3 seconds earlier and it’s not like these are bad guys either, they are just conditioned to laugh at men and not women.

I say this a semi-consistent viewer and a long time subscriber, we came here to watch you talk! I know being a talker (video essayist, professional yapper, educator, etc) on the internet requires a lot of lampshading to avoid super annoying comments but Idk i feel like every time you remind us “you’re not beating a dead horse” i find my response to be “i know you’re just getting to your point? Exploring the topic?”
You would sound more confident if there was a little less “i’m not just talking to talk” bc i’m here to watch you talk. I’m here to listen to what came to mind when reflecting upon this topic. Just because it’s maybe unserious doesn’t mean i don’t have a genuine interest in what you have to say. Again, maybe it’s just internet culture now but i’m here to listen!

when you live in a wasteland of consumption and hypercommodification, you can't form identity through self-cultivation or expression or any real exploration of artforms/education. So you just subsume the self to the branding of another.

idk, you kept saying it was a silly video - but the concept of dopplegangers with *ourselves* via filter, & how the "irl us" has to match the web us (kinda like catfishing yourself accidentally potentially?); & the potential troubles of celebrity lookalikes - that's thought provoking & really fascinating stuff!
even uncanny valley has been "part of the conversation" for *decades* , but the further you dug into it all, the closer it seemed you were to touching on something really profound (& accomplished imo)

I think when lookalikes get told by the celebrity to stop impersonating them (eg ari asked paige to stop) they really should just comply. I feel like its just basic decency and respect idk and like also dont make of using the impersonation???like it feels super off for me like crossing the acceptable boundaries.

when you mentioned doppelgangers becoming popular, this got me thinking about the whole dupe culture for products themselves - yes there's the treatments that can mimic a celebrity look in packages and whatnot, but even the whole thing going on with makeup products (*cough cough* mco beauty *cough cough*) and with larger brands and franchises collaborating with more accessible markets and whatnot. almost like "the poor man's _" (not literally but yknow what i mean) for something, kinda feeling like an attempt to also brighten certain brand and celebrity images in "being closer to the people" if you think about it
anyway that could just be all a stretch but this vid definitely got the thoughts buzzing - also happy holidays everyone, and an early happy new year!

When i was young, i also bought into the “women aren’t funny” thing bc my comedy diet was all raunchy tv shows and netflix specials. Took me a long time to realize that i just wasn’t being exposed to enough women comedians. Like yea if there are 3 female stand-up specials to every dozen male ones, its gna stand out more when i dont like 2 of the former vs 2 of the later.
Tiktok especially was a game changer for me. The women comedians of tiktok regularly make me cry laughing

It's just her jaw and head shape/size that doesn't fit what people are also expecting of a megan fox lookalike. And honestly the same for the guy and his lookalike celeb.

I’ve been in a “find my doppelgänger” group on Facebook for longer than I care to admit lol but it’s all good vibes and they said I look like Zoe Kravitz 😂 I definitely do not but I appreciate the positive reinforcement ❤

There’s something to be said about the subjectivity of perception, with the phenomenon of celebrities losing their own look-alike contests.
Also, as woman, I have never laughed when someone makes an unfunny joke. It’s dumb to expect that.

Even though Jordan says she isn't particularly proud of her recent projects, from my perspective, it's been the same since 2021 (when I started watching her vids). Nobody will read my comment but it's been bugging me for years - the topics within one video are sometimes all over the place.
I have ADHD like her but gosh, is it distracting how the title may be about one thing but branch out so much you forget where you started. One of many examples is "2010s trends, trend cycles & sustainability" where only 1/3 of the video is about serious issues like environmental impact, bad working conditions, bad quality of clothes, etc. Everything before is jarringly light-hearted, going into unneeded detail about a dozen trends when a few examples would suffice. Or the baby name video which only shows the positive but doesn't touch upon parents damning their kids with being overly quirky and different. Unfortunately, this way we often end up with sub-topics being barely covered with the depth of a TikTok analysis.
This isn't me being a hater but offering constructive criticism. I follow the same principle when I teach, when I write my book project, when I make my own videos (although it's a completely different format, the focus is key), and even when I comment. It's inevitable when we talk in real life, then the ADHD is apparent. But I think an editor maybe or a friend can look at the script and give advice on what sections to shorten, which to lengthen so the main topic stays relevant.

It’s me liking the video before even watching it because…it’s Jordan Theresa. I don’t need to see the video to know I’m gonna like it 😊

Male pageantry has existed in leather community for a long time - what is Mr International Leather if not a pageant queen? More of a lifestyle commitment and an acquired taste though. Not something a pedestrian himbo can enter for fun, or a casual town square gathering

Btw your recent videos have been great, just as insightful and original as ever imo 🤷‍♂️ You're one of the first youtubers I recommend, and your videos are engaging and fun when my adhd brain is zooming aimlessly like a toy car. That's a rare talent!
