    Your videos are the way we learned about CLE. I have two boys and they are loving it! We do their language arts, reading, science, social studies. I agree with the reading lessons tending to be really long. Some days, we only do one page in the lesson and just pick it up the next day. Flexibility.
    We'll likely start CLE math next year once we finish TGTB math since we already bought that, as I can see that it's not going to work out long term. I found your videos when I was searching for something other than TGTB language arts, as my boys were not progressing with it. They are 1st and 5th grade. I really enjoy the integration of morals and God's word in CLE, without any fluff. And I now have virtually no teacher prep time! Thanks for sharing!

    We use CLE reading differently with our daughter who is on the Autism spectrum. We read one story a week broken up by our 4 day week. Then we use the worksheet method ( different from the light units ). She is doing wonderfully with it.

    Thank you for sharing this curriculum. We will be starting it for next year. We will probably go down a level for one and two levels for my special needs child. My twins are strong oral readers, but need some help with vocabulary and comprehension. They may feel the readers are not very exciting also, but the lessons they will have for a lifetime will be worth a little bit of grumbling.

    I obtained a copy of the CLE 5th grade reading and was really impressed with it! We didn't end up using it because we have 3 different reading curricula for 5th grade - ha! I plan to do a video comparing the 3 programs, so that's why I have so many... Anyway, I'm so glad I watched this because I was thinking some of the work in CLE was more busywork, but you made me see the value in some of those lessons.

    My son has add and we have used the good and the beautiful the past two years because this momma got sucked in. I love it but it is too much fluff for him. He is too distracted. I need a curriculum that is straight to the point. We ordered reading, LA, Bible, Soc. Studies, and Math. Thank you for your videos.

    Thank you for sharing this curriculum! We are in our second year of homeschooling and unless you search for very specifics like “reading comprehension” you only stumble upon the trends! We love our new curriculum so far it’s clicking with my daughter 🙌 but I need more reading comprehension because my girl is a sloppy reader. She knows how to read the problem is that she wants to get it done… I need something that asks all the right questions and makes her think and that requires her to really take the time reading to be able to answer. This curriculum sounds like it is it! My daughter will be in 3rd grade/8 yrs old for when I’m intending to add this resource. Would you have preferred to start your daughter on the level 2 since you mentioned it was challenging and she wasn’t used to the type of reading comprehension questions or was she able to catch up? I really don’t mind the number on the cover of the book. I’m more concerned with skills. Do they offer a placement test or assessment? Thank you!

    • @ourthriftyhomeschool
      @ourthriftyhomeschool  2 роки тому +1

      This does sound perfect for what you’re looking for! There is a placement test on their website, so I would definitely recommend taking that to place her correctly! My daughter was able to catch up just fine and is doing great with this.

      For LTR, It is basically for 1st grade. So I used it for all 3 of my girls when they were 6. My son will use it when he’s 7. So it just depends on this kid. But I think it’s perfect to slide into when finished with K2.

    We use the books as readers but don't use any curriculum. We use Mom Delights blank pages and turn any book into language arts. I use a mix of Christian light readers, pathway readers,, mcguffeys, God is good series, scripture and alpha phonics. We don't use any workbooks in our homeschool for any subject. My kids are all different stages of learning from 1st to 11th grade.. We use alpha phonics and pathway readers for lessons for the younger kids. They read Christian light independently, scripture and mcguffeys for copywork, spelling comes from phonics flashcards, pathway readers or professor K spelling. All other books on our shelf and God is good series they can read at bedtime. When they are ready for writing we do lots of reading of short stories, poetry and speeches and do narrative writing from that. For that I use resources like book of virtues, Harp Laurel Wreath poetry and recitation, mcguffeys, and a few other books. We do Robinson curriculum and add in the reading list when they are ready. We do both readers, read alouds and Robinson curriculum booklist to make up 2 hrs of reading a day and slowly transition to 2 hrs of independent reading daily from the Robinson curriculum. All our vocabulary comes from Robinson curriculum books.

      @@ourthriftyhomeschool I try to keep everything within 3Rs. Read, write and arithmetic. All subjects come from books for us. Other than readers and short stories we add in the kids only read one book (subject) at a time. We try for as many direct sources as possible. Other than a few readers for my youngest child I don't have to buy any curriculum this year except in 6 months I'll need 2 more Saxon math books. (We almost have all the Saxon math books). Robinson curriculum is so easy to place all the children exactly where they need to be and easy to adjust if needed. Only thing I do differently is use Mom Delights pages for our language arts and add in lots of readers in the beginning years. Even for older kids i can check on their fluency and comprehension by having them read aloud from a reader for me. I like the Christian light readers because the short stories can fill some gaps in between books too if it takes a day or two to get the next book ready.

    Hi! Does CLE go by grade or level? My daughter is in 4th grade but I think the 4th grade would be too advanced for her so I’m thinking of getting the 3rd grade set instead. Do you think this is ok? Btw we use CLE for math and love it and I’m hoping we love the reading too 😊

    • @ourthriftyhomeschool
      @ourthriftyhomeschool  2 роки тому

      CLE is really by levels. It’s advanced compared to many other curriculums, so they encourage you to take the placement tests before ordering.
      One of my daughters is on a level lower than her grade for a CLE subject and it works perfectly! Definitely place her where you think she’ll fit!

    How would you say this reading program compares to Heart of Dakota's Drawn into the Heart of Reading program? We are using DITHOR right now, and I love that my girl gets to read "living" books/ novels. Do you kids miss out on reading "real books" when they read out of the CLE reader for their reading? (Sorry I feel like I repeated that word a lot 😆)
    We use CLE for math, and I appreciate how straightforward the lessons are. Considering getting other CLE subjects, particularly reading, language arts, etc.
    My other concern is that, with CLE being Mennonite, is that they probably teach pacifism/ non-resistance. My husband is an infantry veteran, so we obv don't hold to that view (we teach our kids fighting/ self defense is to be used as a last resort to defend oneself, not to beat up someone just because they takes their toy, just to be clear😉). How pervasive is this teaching in their reading program?
    Thanks so much, and thanks for the great video 😀

    • @ourthriftyhomeschool
      @ourthriftyhomeschool  2 роки тому +1

      The two reading curriculums are very different. I don’t think my kids miss the living books only because they read plenty of those on their own or with history. My daughter enjoyed DITHOR better and I think thought it was more fun, but as the mom, I think CLE is so much stronger and more thorough!

    • @ourthriftyhomeschool
      @ourthriftyhomeschool  2 роки тому +1

      In my experience, there is no Mennonite teaching in their curriculum at all (we’ve only used their reading, language, math, and kindergarten, so I can’t speak for the other subjects). Except for the pictures having obvious Mennonite ladies with head coverings, you don’t see anything specific in teaching beliefs that are not lined up with basic Christianity.

      Yes, I’d say it’s advanced compared to public school and some other curriculum. But, in general if your child is in 4th grade and a strong reader, they would be fine in the level 4 reading. I hope that helps.
