ELI LILLY: Alarming suspicion! Has the pharmaceutical giant influenced German legislation?
The US pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly is at the center of a debate as to whether it has influenced German legislation. The accusation: the establishment of a billion-dollar plant in Rhineland-Palatinate is said to have been made dependent on the confidentiality of future drug discounts. At a special meeting of the Health Committee, the government was unable to provide any clear answers. Health Minister Lauterbach does not appear to have been involved in the talks, while Chancellor Scholz and other top politicians are moving into the spotlight. The opposition is calling for transparency and warns of a democratic low point if the impression is created that companies can dictate laws.
