First step out of depression | Gita Moment

  • I often recommend those who struggle with depression or excessive negative thoughts, to immerse their minds into the first chapters of the Gita - and try to truly read it with understanding. Not without a reason the Gita literally begins with the chapter called “Arjuna’s Depression”, in which Arjuna is overwhelmed with his own anxiety and uncontrolled mind. It is in this chapter that Arjuna makes the mistake common to all of us: he believes his own exaggerated negative thoughts and identifies with them, forgetting that he is something much greater than those temporary thoughts and worries: an immortal soul. Lord Krishna, like a skilful psychologist, takes Arjuna out of His depressed mode throughout entire Chapter 2 and some of the following chapters - and the simple steps He proposes can be applied by everyone.
