    Thanks for this! I'm late to the party but just bought these markers. I did NOT follow your advice and bought the big set! My bad. I hope I don't regret it! But I kinda do have full set syndrome a little bit! LOL! Anyway, thanks again for this review. 😄

    I saw the pilling which happened with your paper; you had used almost no water and that pilling should not have occurred. That being said, were you aware that there is a right and wrong side of watercolor paper? I was not and when such pilling occurred with some pieces I was doing, this came to my attention. Usually, the right/correct side of the paper, whether cold or hot press, is the side facing you (up) in the pad/block before removing. This may have happened to you, after cutting a sheet down to your desired size, the right/wrong sides may have gotten mixed up. I have this particular brand of watercolor paper, along with others, and although it’s not Fabriano or Arches top quality, Arteza isn’t bad. Paper pilling is the bane of watercolorists! Love your video and will check out these Karin brush markers.

    • @RebeccaKeppel
      @RebeccaKeppel  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you for telling me that! I actually used the “wrong side” on purpose because it was less textured and I figured I could get a better stamped image on it! I had no idea that side would be more likely to pill! I think I’ll stick to the Tim Holtz watercolor paper because I like the bright whiteness of it.

    You did so well with this. I wasn’t sure if the watercolor was working with the background of water drops but it turned out fantastic. I think it is hard to do but you conquered it!

    Hi Rebecca - I just ordered a set of Brushmarker Pros, so very happy to see your demo. Here's a watercolor tip. For the orange that you said you didn't like the lack of shading (11:13), when you lay your original color down, try going from light (open area, away from color) and add water and blend toward the color line, not away from it. The color will spread through the water in gradations. I picked up the tip watching a watercolor artist. I used to blend the same way you did here as its the way we typically swatch colors. But you can control the shading better. You can see you picked up some technique with the other oranges and produced a nice effect. Another tip, have a paper towel handy to lift color you aren't pleased with. The technique works with standard watercolors, we'll see how it works with the Brushmarkers. Love your color choices for the card, complimentary orange & blue.

    • @RebeccaKeppel

      I hope you love the Brushmarker Pros!

    Beautiful card. Do you know if these are similar to the affects you can get from the real brush pens from Zig? I know the zig brush is more brush like.

    • @RebeccaKeppel
      @RebeccaKeppel  3 роки тому

      Thank you!
      I prefer these to the Zig brush pens. For me these have more opaque color (which is my personal preference) and I like the stiffer tip because it allows me to add fine details. But all that being said, if you already have the Zig and enjoy them, I don't think you would need these too.

    Toward the end you said you might consider upgrading to these markers. If you like the Karin markers, what are you upgrading from? I don't have markers yet, so I don't know what to buy and need some help. Thank you!

    • @RebeccaKeppel
      @RebeccaKeppel  3 роки тому

      I meant I would upgrade to the full set of Karin markers which I think is 60 colors. :) Choosing a first set of markets depends on what type of coloring you want to do. For watercolor I’ve tried Tombow, Zig Clean Color, Tim Holtz Distress Markers and so far these Karin markers are my favorite. For alcohol marker coloring I prefer Copics, but others have success with other brands.

  • @suzannesoman7819

    I’m considering getting these, but I’m not sure if I should get the 12 or 26 set. I already have a considerable tombow collection too. What do you suggest?

    • @RebeccaKeppel
      @RebeccaKeppel  3 роки тому +1

      If you like bright, rich colors I would grab the 26. That's where I started and once I start using some of them up I will definitely get the large set. I like Tombows, but for me the Karins are easier to use.

    I was always under the impression that you store pens tip side down to get all/more ink to the tip. That said, except dual pointed pens should be stored on their side so both tips get ink. Makes sense to me, so I wonder why they say tip up??

    Do you recommend the 24, 60 or 72 set?

    • @RebeccaKeppel
      @RebeccaKeppel  3 роки тому +1

      The first link in my UA-cam description is for the 26 color set. That is what I am starting with and I do recommend it. It has plenty of fun colors, a bunch of neutrals and in addition a blender pen, making it 27 markers total. For those who want to dive right into the full collection, that is my second set of links and the third is for those who really cautiously want to try it out. (that one includes 12). For me personally, I recommend starting with a mid size like the 26 so you can get a real feel for the colors offered without spending an enormous sum on something that you don't end up loving.
