Most grunge bands had a couple good songs, but most of them were lyrical garbage with no sense of metaphors, innuendo, subtleties, or even basic theme.
Grunge sucked there was just a few songs that was ok

yeahh it used to be cool though. And byu that I mean, the people considered "cool people" by and large liked MTV. The hipster, edgy "I hate anything big and popular" mindset was hardly even a thing. This was all before everything mainstream was uncool to like lol, and a TV station could be considered cool. Looking back, with today's mindset, it seems uncool but at the time people weren't as particular and the popular thing and the cool thing were often the same, and music was made for music lovers, not for the most people possible, as it is today, so MTV played all the cool shit. Becoming more of a corporation than a channel for music is probably what killed them.

Woow, i cant believe MTV didnt broadcast one of the best performance of Megadeth, Night of the living Megadeth was when not only the band is playing perfectly, but also when Mustaines voice is at its peak.
Mustain's vocal peak was a big hill at best, compared to the vocal mountains of his contemporaries. It served his music perfectly well, and has an interesting tone, but Mustain's singing was never great in my opinion. Technically especially, but it has it's charms for sure.

My friends band was a support band for Megadeth in Australia. Couldn't speak highly enough of Dave. Said he was a pretty intense person

MTV was gone long before and when headbangers ball stopped airing it was just this reality shit. When i was a kid i set my VCR to record (sunday night?) HBB and before i went to school i had to watch it so i was always up to date of what was cool and metal. Glad we had cable in finland then, that really changed my life.
Yah 120 minutes was about all I watched then.

Metallica made it thru the 1990's grunge BS and so did Judas Priest & Iron Maiden (without Bruce singing for them).
Grunge was a flash in the mirror and went away as fast as it came.

I've been a huge Megadeth fan since the late 80s and have always wondered why you never hear Megadeth on the radio. Sure you'd hear countdown on the radio sometimes, and less frequently now. But I think they have an amazing catalog. Why is none of it played on radio? Maybe it's just my taste. Nothing I like is mainstream.
Unfortunatley, main stream music is usually grabage. The general public just doesn't know what good music is.
Megadeth was a big deal for me. Still think they are the best thrash metal band. Just my humble opinion

All about the big companies regaining complete power back of what music will be pushed to the masses after iron maiden ,metallica, Suicide Tendencies, hardcore rap proved you could bypass corporate promotion with word of mouth, bootleg cassettes, mom and pop productions and most of all, musical talent of the actual members of the bands ,not hand picked pretty people and a slew of backroom writers and unseen session players

A little more context is needed. Heavy music had a hard time getting on MTV after Headbanger’s Ball and then the brief SuperRock (with Jackie Ferrie who was a former nanny for the Cobains) were cancelled. Roots by Sepultura, Demanufacture by Fear Factory, and others like MachineHead or Type O had Kerrang and other magazines to help promote them. MegaDeth was back on M2 in the late 90s/early 2000s but Risk was not a good album.
I knew this man was right when he started one of his sentences with "Roots by Sepultura"

Hair Metal was out because it was overexposed. Everyone started to sound the same. Grunge was not flashy or Olympic but it spoke to a younger audience due to teen angst at that time. It didn't survive because bands disappeared after Cobain's death, who was arguably it's leader.
I hated the whole grunge and alternative scene with a passion....still do
@Ozymandias The Misanthrope I never considered Soundgarden a grunge band really, I mean they have some songs that sound remarkably close to what Black Sabbath was doing around the Sabotage Era really , you could easily hear Ozzys voice over quite a few tunes they did and their musicianship was top notch, I have absolutely no hate for this band only love. This is a metal band in my opinion and really the only one I go back and listen to with sabbath ,maiden rush and thrash. Hendrix cream deep purple rainbow scorps nwobm etc you get the picture
You should try listening to Pearl Jam tho. It doesn’t really feel like shitty Nirvana. If you can get past the few times Eddie mumbles it’s some pretty damn good rock.

I just listened to the songs, and they spoke to me like nothing else could. If I ever get to meet them, I would like to thank them for me being alive today.😎

It’s funny how this video makes it seem like Symphony of Destruction was this huge success. I mean they definitely sold a lot of records but I saw them on that tour and they played a small club it wasn’t like they were headlining Arenas
