Thank you! I started to try and replace the chord on my own but ran into difficulty; I had it all wrong, but after watching this video I was able to get the job done. It's a good feeling to actually repair something rather than going thru the hassle of disposing an old gas-powered lawnmower and spending hundreds of dollars to replace it!
dude, thank you for this video. I have the worst luck with anything mechanical. This video saved me god knows how much money. all I spent was 4 bucks at home depot and 15 mins on UA-cam. you rock!!!
At the 4:00 mark he pulls the old rope all the way out, then inserts the screw driver to keep it from recoiling back in, so that's where the tension is placed.
Great video. Can't say enough good for anyone who takes their time to help me save money and by the way your equipment is clean and sounds great. Good job. Subscribed!
This is so helpful. However, when I remount the recoil starter and pull the rope it gets stuck after like half a turn. Like something is getting caught. Wondering if there's a more precise way to remount it that I don't know about.
When I went to disconnect the spark plug I pulled instead of twisted and a little metal coil popped out, how do I put it back in? Does it go inside the rubber piece?
He's worried about the starter rope which is fine and the label on that engine is ready to peel right off. Go get some permatex super glue and get that label re-adhered to the shroud!
Hey man, I know your video has been up for a decade now. But I used it tonight to fix my mower. Awesome tutorial. Thank you.

Thank you for sharing! For some reason I always thought it was more complicated than that
1st time homeowner here. You make it seem so easy that even I can do it myself.... :P
Nice one Lawnboy, can you advise replacement of a more modern mower chord, such as Ryobi RLM46160S? It's a different setup to the Craftsman
So you don't have to pre-wind tension on the pulley before you thread the new rope in? How does the slack wind itself back up.

does the length of the cord have to equal the length of the original cord for EZ pull Craftsman 725 series mowers?
Your video helped get me back on track; thanks!

Seriously? Nearly TEN MINUTES telling us how to TIE A KNOT?
You fail to explain the most critical part of the whole process: how to tie the rope around the starter!
Crafts man sucks the only reason I bought it was because it’s a Honda if you buy Crafts man you are a boomer or boomer minded.
