As a Sharks fan and a huge Dickinson advocate, I really appreciate your analysis. Sam is definitely a project but I still think he will end up being the best defenseman from this draft. Really excited to see how he progresses this season.
Love this video, keep breaking down shark talent 🙏🏼. Don’t forget as a player when winning by large margins it’s easy to slow foot motion. Needs to use that body and never puck watch. Think he’ll iron it out and be a great player, he’s a good kid, eager to grow.
somewhat agree with your sentiment on his breakout. He is a pretty impressive north south skater. Has a good stride and for somebody that will probably be 6'3 210ish in the NHL already looks like a scary force when he starts to attack the other way, almost 'downhill.' That said, I dont blame him for taking a mentality that tries to look for the stretch pass first second and third. There arent many D in this league that have the ability or leash to attempt exits and entries with their feet. Hes probably going to have to spend time working on his stretch passes due to the fact that hes likely going to be using his feet a lot less than somebody like Luke Hughes.
As a sharks fan this video makes me kind of sad we didn’t draft Buium… I’m hoping this comment ages like milk but it seems like he sees the game at such a slow pace when making decisions. Maybe he just needs to be paired with a defenseman that’ll compliment his game where he’s deficient. Are his bad traits stuff that can be coached out of him? And how many more seasons of juniors does he need after this season before he would crack the ahl lineup
I liked Buium also slightly over him but Dickinson is on pace to score 124 points in the OHL. Check the stats he's right up there with Misa and Martone for a D man! This guy's "scouting" making him seem like a scrub. I think I'll trust Grier and the Sharks scouts over someone on youtube.
Liked. Thought the video was great and really appreciated all the attention to detail you put into this and especially the nitpicking. I think I'm a biased Sharks fan, but I saw something different watching it. Especially with all the lazy skating in his own zone where he doesn't move his feet, I didn't see a player who couldn't skate, I saw a player who wasn't getting punished for what we all agree are bad habits. Dickinson was playing with the Sharks in the preseason before getting returned to London, and as you predicted, he looked pretty lost out there because none of that nonsense works in the NHL. But in the OHL, the guy attacking him is just too small and too slow to get around him. Dickinson doesn't need to do better, he can save it for offense. I wish the rules about OHL players being eligible for the AHL were different because Dickinson would be going against better competition and could be more disciplined to work out those details. Instead, every time you pointed out a play where the opponents could have made him pay, we would move on to the next clip where I noticed the score was 1-0, 2-0, 3-0, 4-0, etc... But you're right, he has to work on all of that stuff and if he does, I see a very high end player and exactly what the Sharks are missing right now. Right now the team is actually decent except the 3 times a game they just can't get the puck out of their zone and through the NZ. I agree he can't help the Sharks right now at 18 years old with those habits though. But Dickinson has taken his offense to another level and there are some elements of his two way game that have improved this year. Buium, Yakemchuk, and Parekh have all plateaued on offense, at least in terms of raw numbers, so it would be interesting to hear why you think that is. But maybe Dickinson needs at least one full year in the AHL at 19 and then at 20 he's either ready to go having fixed all these issues or he won't be. But my hopes are high as a fan of a team that has been really fun to watch and seeing a kid who is exactly what they need if I squint a little. Also as a fan of a team that is probably drafting in the top 3, I'd love to see a Schaefer video if you have time
I don't know about "right or wrong" there, they're different players but I think Buium brings more diverse offensive tools and creativity, but Dickinson seems like a physically stronger player who has similar defensive issues to Buium. Personally I would've gone with Buium, but I didn't have Dickinson too much further behind.
Scouching is always critical of players when doing these breakdowns. Look at every other video, Parekh and Yakemchuk videos are honestly more critical than the Dickinson video. Dickinson has improved the most since last season, so yes this pick was a steal at 11

Appreciate you breaking down the little things that don't normally end up on highlight videos
Good video. I don't watch junior hockey but this confirms his point total is overshadowing a lot of areas that still needs development.

Players from different teams are going to get videos first but we'll circle back on a couple more Sharks prospects some time in the new year.
THX for doin this

150 Done, love the content Will.
Do you think the Sharks made the right pick with Dickinson over Buium?

Zayne Parekh plzzzz
That video will come out next week!
Might as well complete the trifecta of 24 d, do buium!
Could do yakemchuk too for the....quadfecta?
They will all get videos in the near future!
Brent Burns 3.0???
sup dale
gud vid
He’s a good powerplay quarterback but he seems way too soft and contact-shy for his size.
I watched the first 8 minutes. My takeaway... this guy sucks
