Allison Barnes Taylor: - Thanks for posting this information. I was just about to try looking up the surname "maracas" because that is what the CC letters printed out. I figured "Mickey" was a nickname and those are never (usually) in a database. Your grandmother had a rare gift: She was pretty, and smart, and seemed to be pleasant. I used to watch daytime Password with mom sometimes during summer vacation. I was about in 1st Grade when this episode aired.
That's the most energetic and fast paced, almost breathless game I've ever seen! Feels like Carol is literally doing a dance routine it's so energetic! Phew, I need a cup of tea and a lie down after that!
2:00 E. G Marshall mentions his head writer, Reginald Rose, for his TV series "The Defenders." Rose is famous for his epic 1954 live television drama, "Twelve Angry Men" that was later reproduced by Rose in Hollywood in 1957 and starred Henry Fonda and one of the greatest supporting casts any film has seen.
OMG!! This is one of the best Password evening shows that I have ever seen. Great high energy episode. Smart contestants and celebrities. Carol Haney was amazing. Wow!
Carol Haney was a good player. I'm sure we would have seen her as a panelist more often if she hadn't passed at the too young age of 39 less than two years later.
Carol Haney was an awesome underrated actress and dancer. She was married to Larry Blyden. Sad she died in 1964. EG Marshall was an awesome actor. I loved The Defenders. Robert Reed got his start on that show.
Carol Haney was Gene Kelly's dance captain. He tried to get her into movies. She appeared in "Kiss Me Kate." When the Broadway musical "Pajama Game" came along she was given two number which she repeated in the movie version. She was on the Ed Sullivan show.
Actress Shirley MacLaine was discovered by Hollywood producer Hal Wallis while pulling understudy duty in a Broadway play when Carol had hurt her ankle. He had come to see Carol. An unlucky break.
I think Ms. Haney and Mr. Marshall are good demonstrations that the more personal discipline you have, the better you'll be at this game (Ms. Haney's gaffe notwithstanding).
I like how the other 12 Angry Men actors, Balsam, Klugman, Binns, Sweeney, Begley, and Voskovec appeared on The Defenders show as if they formed a reunion with E.G. Marshall.
This was a good episode. The lady contestant: Mary Alice (Mickey) Marakas was pretty, smart and pleasant. Her husband was a lucky man. Hard to believe / understand why nobody gave the clue "Bounty" or "Wanted" for the password "Reward". Steve McQueen's TV program "Wanted Dead or Alive" was about a travelling Bounty Hunter. This episode was filmed in 1962 and the McQueen program was on a couple years before, so somebody had to have seen it (maybe). Then the host (who supposedly had a degree in English) says they should have tried "Ransom" ?!? Why Allen? A "Ransom" is what you pay a kidnapper.
Shirley MacLaine owes her movie career to Carol Haney. Shirley was Carol's understudy in "The Pajama Game" on Broadway, and when Carol hurt her foot and couldn't perform, Shirley took over. In the audience was Hal Wallis, who offered Shirley a movie contract.
And Carol became an alcoholic, became diabetic, was divorced twice and died before she was 40. One must wonder if such disappointment led to the downward spiral.
Maybe Carol would have gone down in history as one of the better players had she done more and lived longer. :( She LOOKS like a choreographer and Dance teacher, like every one I ever had when I was in the biz. :)
Carol was one of the finest dancers around but not MGM pretty. Gene Kelly had her choreograph routines for Cyd Charisse, Leslie Caron and others. This is late in her life. She looks a bit beefy.
I read that also (re: her looks), but find it somewhat head-scratching all these years later. I understand she was the original choice for the vamp in the 'Broadway' ballet of 'Singin' In the Rain,' before the front office declared her not photogenic enough. (Can you imagine her version of Louise Brooks in that green dress?) Anyway, the way she was made up in KMK for the small bit in "From This Moment On," she looked like quite the dish.
Allen was absolutely right about Jack Clark, he DID do an excellent job. In fact, I liked him better than Allen, only because Allen could be a bit rude at times. The only clue I could think of for doodle was yankee. As for dilemma, I thought of conundrum. How about property for private?
I don't think that's fair that they give the word to the contestant when the celebrity goofs and says the word because if that's the cause, why don't they deliberately ALWAYS say the word they shouldn't
But then there's no point in the game, it's to me a nice gesture of consideration to the player, and that the celebrity contestants are human and do stuff up.
Maryalice “Mickey” Marakas was my grandmother. She died in 2010. Absolutely love seeing this from when she was on Password in 1962.
She is a lovely woman ! How sweet you can see her again. Blessings from California. 🕊
and what a great name.

Attractive, elegant, intelligent lady!
That's cool. Wish I had a video of departed relatives. Alive again for a few minutes.
Very good players! A pleasure to watch

My goodness Carol Haney was a great player! She was on fire here. Great episode!
OMG!! This is one of the best Password evening shows that I have ever seen. Great high energy episode. Smart contestants and celebrities. Carol Haney was amazing. Wow!
She was! I just wish she wouldn't fall to pieces instead of focusing her energy doing the lightning rounds.
I wish we could see some of the commercials. I bet they were fun
Carol was a real good player and fun to watch.
Carol Haney was a good player. I'm sure we would have seen her as a panelist more often if she hadn't passed at the too young age of 39 less than two years later.
@ Nice to know that the alcoholism did not dull her mind...quick and sharp.
You can tell by her appearance and her voice that she was a heaver drinker. Alcoholism contributed to her death, as well as diabetes and pneumonia.
Do you know what from?
Great to have you back, Allen. Hope you had a great vacation!
3 days? Couldn't have been that great!
Carol Haney was an awesome underrated actress and dancer. She was married to Larry Blyden. Sad she died in 1964.
EG Marshall was an awesome actor. I loved The Defenders. Robert Reed got his start on that show.
Carol Haney was brilliant.
Carol was on fire, positively psychic. Loved her Steam Heat in the movie Pajama Game.
More Carol is always welcome!
Carol Haney was Gene Kelly's dance captain. He tried to get her into movies. She appeared in "Kiss Me Kate." When the Broadway musical "Pajama Game" came along she was given two number which she repeated in the movie version. She was on the Ed Sullivan show.
Wow, everyone was really good at this game. Very quick
The lady (Mary Alice) was really sharp!
Come Perry was always my favorite Xmas show.
Carol Haney was super
E.G. Marshall great actor ❤
Actress Shirley MacLaine was discovered by Hollywood producer Hal Wallis while pulling understudy duty in a Broadway play when Carol had hurt her ankle. He had come to see Carol. An unlucky break.
So sad that Carol passes away just two years later. 😥
That is sad ! I am not familiar with her. 🕊
And she was only thirty nine. 🦚
She died of alcoholism. Thats what i read on the internet. Is it true, i dont know!
@@HaveAniceDay2450 No, she died of pneumonia complicated by her being a diabetic...and overworking herself.
I so remember hearing this shattering news.
This is how the game should be played. All four players were smart and quick.
Sometimes the lesser people who are a bit dim, wreck the show.
Carol Haney in Pajama Game !!
I think Ms. Haney and Mr. Marshall are good demonstrations that the more personal discipline you have, the better you'll be at this game (Ms. Haney's gaffe notwithstanding).
Carol Haney is brilliant in the "Hernando's Hideaway" number from "Pajama Game."
The entire Original Cast album is wonderful.
I like how the other 12 Angry Men actors, Balsam, Klugman, Binns, Sweeney, Begley, and Voskovec appeared on The Defenders show as if they formed a reunion with E.G. Marshall.
Until I saw this video, I had never heard of Carol Haney, but she was a good player as was E.G. Marshall.
After my previous post, I read where Carol Haney died of diabetes and pneumonia less than 2 years after this aired.
Maryalice has a beautiful smile...
This was a good episode. The lady contestant: Mary Alice (Mickey) Marakas was pretty, smart and pleasant. Her husband was a lucky man.

Carol Haney passed away 2 years after this show .
So sad that she would die two years later at age 39. 😔We never know what lies in the future.
3 days couldn't have been much of a vacation

She did have ongoing health issues...
If this was 2 years before her death she would have recently had her second baby
$1,200 was a lot of money back in the early 60s; over $10,000 value today. Donald left with a good heap of cash.
It seems like it was carol's first time cause she was nervous but great
Who?

Welcome Back Allen Ludden as The Host of Password
🙄
Did they ever have black people on this show?
Celebrities - yes. I don't remember if there were black contestants.
I think it became more regular in or after 1963
They should have gone to "soldier" for private.
bounty
EG was always so buttoned up. Did he ever play a drunk old rogue?
He could have played Captain Picard's father.
Welcome Back Jack Clark as The Password Announcer
Multiply winnings by about 10 to correct for inflation in 2023.
I don't think that's fair that they give the word to the contestant when the celebrity goofs and says the word because if that's the cause, why don't they deliberately ALWAYS say the word they shouldn't
I literally see you everywhere and you always have something negative to say lol
But then there's no point in the game, it's to me a nice gesture of consideration to the player, and that the celebrity contestants are human and do stuff up.
