    I've been struggling to 'zoom' into a particular glacier using Landsat. I've tried the polgon etc but it still is showing me the larger footprint, which when exported to ArcGis the glacier in question just isn't visible! Pls help!

    In which format we should put our satellite image dateset for applying the 3D-Convolutional Autoencoder.

    First of all, this video was perfectly done, thanks for explaining.
    One more question, can we use tar format file directly in GIS? or not
    Also i require data from 1990 , and when i select Landsat 8 or 7 it doesn't give any result. it only gives result for landsat 4-5.

    • @DonBoyes
      @DonBoyes  3 роки тому +3

      Thanks, I'm glad you like it! You can't use a TAR file directly, but you can convert it using apps like 7-Zip www.7-zip.org/. Landsat 7 and 8 were not in orbit in 1990 so you won't find data from them for that time period.

    • @learngeography1766
      @learngeography1766 3 роки тому +2

      @@DonBoyes Oh, okay Got it. So can i use landsat 4-5 images from that 1990? and then i will use Landsat 7 or 8 later maybe for 2000.
      i have another question. i am working on urbanization of a city. So how much cloud cover is okay for it?

    • @DonBoyes
      @DonBoyes  3 роки тому +2

      @@learngeography1766 That all depends on where the clouds are in each image in relation to what you want to map. It's best to start with a low percentage like 0-10% and see what you get, but then raise the limit if you have to

    Are there any sources of open source satellite data for infrared and lidar?

    • @DonBoyes
      @DonBoyes  3 роки тому

      Landsat sensors include infrared bands and that data is free. I would be surprised if you can find any free sources of Lidar data, as it is quite expensive to collect.

    • @DonBoyes

      You would have to download the images individually, and then create a raster mosaic. You can find instructions here: desktop.arcgis.com/en/arcmap/latest/manage-data/raster-and-images/creating-a-mosaic-dataset.htm

    Hi dear,
    Can one download precipitation & temperature data

    • @DonBoyes
      @DonBoyes  4 роки тому +1

      In general, that type of GIS data exists, but whether you can find it for the area you are interested in and then download it is another question. I don't know of a central data repository for that data, so you may have to look for things like a national/government agency responsible for weather and climate data, such as Environment Canada, or NOAA in the U.S.

    Hello,
    Why are the images I download from USGS not in Tar format?
    Does this mean that the images are not the same as the ones you are using?
    Thank you

    • @DonBoyes
      @DonBoyes  4 роки тому

      I'm not sure what format your data is in, so I'm not sure. Tar is a common format but it's possible that you might be able to download it in some other format as well. You can try to follow along with the video to retrace your steps and see if that helps.
