Gaeta’s itchy leg stump was symbolic of his anger, his resentment for all that happened to him.
In the end, once he came to peace with his fate, the anger, the hatred was gone; and thus the itch was gone too.
    Great reaction.

      Interesting.
For me it wasn't that deep. I took it more literally.
Basically his constant pain and discomfort drove to a lack of sleep and comfort which drove a lot of his bad and irrational decisions. He would have still believed as he did but would not have taken those steps if he was thinking clearly.
So the pain/discomfort stopping prior to his execution was poetic irony - i.e. that if he had just hung on for a few more days, he could have gotten some actual rest, been thinking clearly - and the entire revolt could have been avoided as he was the lynchpin.
Not sure I agree with your take, but I think it is an interesting one.
      Thank you for sharing.

Felix Gaeta’s character arc is one of my two favorite in all of the tv series I’ve watched. They took a sweet, naive officer and utterly broke him over the course of four seasons, and did it in a completely believable way. Alessandro Juliani did an amazing job.

I love the scene with Zarek and Roslin on the wireless. "I'm coming for all of you!" And the Basestar puts out its guns like it agrees with her.

Unbelievable episode! One of the best of season 4. The scene with Laura on the base ship is absolutely chilling. “I’m coming for all of you!” And damn it, she means it! The look on Caprica and Gaius’ face were just perfect. Both of them have some new things to think about. And of course…”it stopped…” 😢

I love this arc so much. Even as you are pulling your hair out for Gaeta, you get where he is coming from. He has tried to do so much. You see him get in so far over his head, and you both are so frustrated by him for being stupid and naive, and also your heart just breaks for him. And LAURA! "I AM COMING FOR ALL OF YOU" is iconic. I want to be her (well, in these moments) when I grow up.

Yea it’s hard to blame him, in the same circumstances I might have done the same if I didn’t have access to all the information.
A huge difference between him and Zarek. Felix believed in something greater than himself and he dies trying to see it achieved. Zarek believed in himself.

The uprising was over by the end of the episode, but I wouldn't say it seemed like an "easy fix" to me. Plus we are still isolated in space, with no destination and an uneasy alliance with some Cylons.
Also, thought that the way Gaeta represented an ideological revolutionary, but Zarek was more engaged with what he felt was necessary to do to gain and hold power, having had a lifetimes experience as a terrorist and revolutionary was well drawn.

One of my favorite moments in the entire series is Roslin’s speech. “I’m coming for all of you!” I’d give up right there. 😂
Well, you’re in the end game now! It’ll be bittersweet, but it’s just amazing the development we get from all these characters. Such a well written show.

    I'm caught up!!
That you're getting so much satisfaction from the series as a whole, and season 4 in particular, gives me a lift in spirit. It's one thing to have a reactor watching a show I love, it's so much more to see real enjoyment and investment.
Thank you for loving it with us Chris.

So many reactors get to these episodes and their analysis devolves into "Gaeta bad, frak Gaeta." I appreciate your nuanced view of this storyline and his character arc. Gaeta is not a bad person. He has valid concerns and points after everything that he, and humanity, have been through. But he allowed his emotions to override his reasoning, and out of desperation for a solution he threw in his lot with an ambitious, convicted terrorist, underestimating just how far Zarek would go. By the time that Gaeta realizes how badly he has messed up he's in too deep and has to keep going...but even then, he's unwilling to take the whole species down with him.
And the thing about Zarek is, he wasn't wrong either. This season we have watched as Roslin became increasingly autocratic. She was cutting the Quorum out of major decisions, writing legislation that consolidated her own power, curtailing rights. When the fleet needed leadership after the discovery of Earth she noped out and left it to Lee, who doesn't have the same sway with the fleet. And Adama has proven on multiple occasions that he will serve President Roslin, but doesn't really give Zarek or the Quorum the time of day. This mutiny/coup was the culmination of a lot of controversial or outright poor choices by the fleet's leadership.
On the other hand, while Gaeta and Zarek make legitimate arguments, neither is truly doing it for those reasons. Zarek doesn't care that the will of the people is being overridden, he cares that he has been losing influence. And Gaeta is driven by his own resentments and trauma. A sad, messy situation that was four years in the making, but in the end they crossed some serious lines and the two of them did have to be executed as the ringleaders.

What I love about Roslin's speech there is how clearly the motivation of her love for Adama comes through. And all the cylons around seeing it. After all the little plot lines through the show about cylons lacking and feeling the lack of and believing some of their failings are _from_ the lack of love. So seeing all their faces, it's not just they're agreeing or inspired, but that they're _seeing_ in sheer blinding light the thing they want, and why they should want it.

I think Gaeta's last chance was when he gave the order to execute Adama. At that point, there was no turning back. Would Gaeta have faced punishment and perhaps exile from Galactica? Yes. But Gaeta continulously chose, until he knew he lost, to rebel.

  • @BobHerzog1962
    @BobHerzog1962 Місяць тому

Gaeta's fate showcases the hypocarcy of the fleet's leadership. He never saw justice for stuff that was done to him. Neither the attempted execution by the Ring, nor for being shot while on mission with Starbuck. Meanwhile others who arguably did similar stuff like him did get of the hook while he got executed. His grievance towards Adama is also not unfounded. If Gaeta and those who followed him here are guilty of mutiny then so is the Admiral of leaveing them on new Caprica. Several others of disobidience, mutiny, smuggleing, slavery and so forth.
On the one hand it showcases how far society in the fleet is disfunctional and more tribal than anything else by now. On the other hand BSG2003 by now has entered severly the favourites survive and not likeable characters get axed territory (main character plot armor syndrome). It would have been so much better had the mutiny been more messy. As example given his strong feeling I could have seen Gaeta shooting Tigh right away.
Still overall Gaeta was a victim of the tirbalistic justice the fleet is now running on. The message is Lee, Starbuck and Tigh all get away with murder. But the guy who litteraly saved all our asses several times? No that guy has to be killed. It would have been funny had they needed someone to fix their computer or FTL the next episode. Only for someone to realise they need Gaeta :D

All Leobens are the same model. Can never recall if they're #4 or #2. You meant individual, the same way that Sharon Athena is a different individual from the Eight who betrayed Gaeta's trust, is a different individual from Sharon Boomer.
