  • The Stearman (Boeing) Model 75 is a biplane used as a military trainer aircraft, of which at least 10,626 were built in the United States during the 1930s and 1940s.[1] Stearman Aircraft became a subsidiary of Boeing in 1934. Widely known as the Stearman, Boeing Stearman or Kaydet, it served as a primary trainer for the USAAF, the USN (as the NS & N2S), and with the RCAF as the Kaydet throughout World War II. After the conflict was over, thousands of surplus aircraft were sold on the civilian market. In the immediate postwar years they became popular as crop dusters, sports planes, and for aerobatic and wing walking use in airshows.

    had a ride in the front cockpit a few years back; was a real thrill taking the stick. I still remember the pilot calling out the his Landing Check List (for my benefit!): "Landing Gear: Down and Welded"... 😁

    • @FlightVideoPhoto
      @FlightVideoPhoto  7 років тому +2

      It seems strange to call "Landing gear: down and welded" on a fixed gear plane but it is very important to do otherwise you could forget to extract the landing gear when flying a plane with a retractile one.
      Remember, pilots can be divided in two categories: the ones who landed with the landing gear retracted and the ones who will do ;-)

      well, i'm happy to say i made it through more than 30 years of flying as a Naval Aviator & commercial airline pilot w/o such an experience; in fact i only personally know only one who DID land gear-up; unfortunately, he was my "Skipper" (commanding officer). later, when asked why he didn't respond to the frantic radio calls from the tower on his approach, he said he couldn't hear them; the Landing Gear Warning Horn drowned them out... 😳

    Very nice! I just took a flight in a 1943 Stearman about a week ago and experiences some acrobatics! Incredible experience!!!

      I and my sister flew in a Stearman almost 20 years ago. We flew over the bay, and we got to hold the flight stick for a few minutes. It was truly a life-changing experience.

    I was in partners with two of these great airplanes. One after the other! It was an easy airplane to fly. It's the landings you have to pay attention to! The first , was painted as this one, and the second was all yellow ! Both had the 220 HP Continental Radial.

    I love watching these type videos ! One thing I would say though is...... I would like to see more videos of the plane doing it's maneuvers without all the smoke trails. I just want to see the fine flying without all that. Maybe shoot some views from the cockpit as well, and then pull the view of the plane back from what they show in this video......... and like I said....... without all the smoke trails. Just the Stearman doing it's thing under the skilled hand of a fine pilot.

    esibizione che lascia stupiti per la scarsa qualità, non si può pilotate uno Stearman come fosse un Cap 10. va rispettata l'età dell aereo evitare certe tirate di G . insomma un esibizione da bocciare su tutto. Lui è un trainer militare e va pilotato secondo questi standard.

    Air show videos are ALWAYS zoomed in too much.

      Thanks for the feedback! I'm working also on some wide view videos but I had also the opposite feedback: people that love my videos because they are closer than competitors.

    • @sevenrats
      @sevenrats 3 роки тому +1

      @@FlightVideoPhoto Sorry to sound so critical. It's just that being so framed in all you get from it is a plane rotating against a flat background. Farther out with less camera movement you can see the entire maneuver and the get a feeling of the speed and altitude changes.

    • @FlightVideoPhoto
      @FlightVideoPhoto  3 роки тому

      @@sevenrats Don't worry! I'm very happy to read feedbacks, they are important for me to understand how to improve my videos. Maybe the ideal is to be in two, one with wide angle and one with close view and after mix in editing. I also agree that some aerobatic teams, for example, are better to be shooted in wide view to give the idea of the complete manouver. I did that, in some cases on two days events one day I shooted in wide and one in narrow. For example in this case ua-cam.com/video/eiaI8_v176w/v-deo.html

    Cannot read the N number and the fuselage number with a 1 added might tell who the owner/operator is. Expertly flown with exceptional cross control demonstration. Too bad the pilot won't step forward. I fly N6051.

    Great video BUT your information is wrong in the description. This is a PT-13 Kaydet with a Lycoming R680 Nine cyl radial 300HP. You have R680 right BUT it is NOT a Continental 220. Just thought I would let you know. 😉👍🏼

    Any stearmans flying around in the recall scheme?

    • @FlightVideoPhoto
      @FlightVideoPhoto  5 років тому

      I'm sorry, I don't understand what you mean with "recall scheme"?

    • @tplus3017
      @tplus3017 5 років тому

      @@FlightVideoPhoto My apologies. I should have explained it in more detail. The recall scheme was a series of black and white painted stripes on a Stearman at a flying field to denote the colors of a signal flag. The signal flag was used to recall students back to the airfield. However some aircraft would be too far away to see the flag, so one aircraft would fly around with the same colors of the flag so that students would see it and understand to return to base. This was the only means of communication as two way radios were not available. Whether this is true or not I do not know.
