  • A short weaving video, showing what happens when weaving Harrisville Designs Highland weight wool, and suddenly a warp thread breaks. It has to be fixed by splicing in another warp thread to continue weaving. I know that the colors don't match, but I also know that with this woolen warp, after the scarf has been fulled (wet finished), no one will be able to see the splice.

How much tidier than using pin heads and trying to get it to stay. great tip will certainly use that

Thanks for sharing this! One question. It seemed like the warp thread you pulled from the back had extra length to it compared to the other warp threads. How did you do that?

It was a new thread that he had weighted over the back beam so as he weaves he would have to adjust the weight but it does work very well in the event of a broken warp

Exactly what Healing Fibers just said.

@@curmudgeon66 I’m sorry if this repeats, I don’t see my comment/question. So the new warp thread comes straight from the cone for the rest of the scarf?

@@conniebueche3989 no, I just used an extra couple feet of new, then spliced in the original again. And it MIGHT work with cotton but only if warp and weft were exactly the same color and thread.

Tooth. I think the word you are looking for at about 5:36 is 'tooth' The yarn has enough tooth to bite into and adhere to a similar yarn. Great video. Perhaps other weavers would use another word. Thanks for the interesting take on splicing a warp thread. This seems easier and faster than some other methods I have seen. Again, thank you for the great idea and great video.

Thank you for this, very interesting! The wool has enough bite to work, would this also work for cotton?
