Gus killed like 4 birds with this one move.

-He got rid of his competition

Gus' sheer genius and level of control was what really made him scary. Keeping Walter White in his pocket and alive for his business, leading the cousins to Hank and explicitly telling them to go for Hank, warning Hank so they could die without anything to trace his direct involvement, and if Hank died, well, that that play worked to his advantage too. Either way, so long as the DEA knew about the cousins, they and Bolsa were no longer in his way when they got raided, and the DEA's focus was on the cartel more and on any of his business less, which allowed his empire to run unchecked. It also opened up a way to essentially destroy the cartel later on, since they were no longer standing in the way of Eladio.

Walter got lucky, he had no idea about Gus and Hector's animosity towards each other until Saul told him in the nick of time. Walt wasn't a great planner like Gus, he was more of a resourceful opportunist who stopped at nothing when his back was against the wall. Basically he was the quintessential chemist, who mixed up whatever he had in front of him and transformed it into a favorable outcome (for him). It kept him alive but it's also why everything around him always fell apart, and why Mike saw him as a ticking time-bomb.

Gus wanted a shootout between Hank and the Salamanca brothers (which is why he called Hank seconds before the brothers arrived to assassinate him, he wanted a public shootout) to force authorities to counterattack and take out the cartel leader in mexico. Gus did this because the cartel leader was receiving a huge share of Gus's meth money, and so Gus wanted to eliminate him and have all the money to himself, all while securing the best chemist in the world and ensuring the best quality of the product. Brilliant writing.

It's crazy to think if they had ended up basing the setting of the show in New York or Chicago how much different it would've been. The music, the cinematography and backdrop would've been completely out of place in those places. New Mexico was perfect for this show.

In this scene, All I was thinking was if the actor is Italian. The way he pronounces certain vowels has some Italian influence

He does speak Italian, so I imagine that influenced his attempt at Spanish. I think his vowels are more or less fine; the consonants are all fucked up though

Jaja quedaría mejor si él dijera "no pueden TOMAR una decisión que no sea suya". Además, en español no se hace una decisión, se la toma pero en inglés está al revés.

Giancarlo Esposito is half-Italian, not Latino. Giancarlo is the Italian version of Juan Carlos or John Charles. He's not fluent in Spanish and you can hear it when he speaks.
