I really think that you should visit The Ace and The Shed on Friday/Sat nights from about 8p.m. onward. Then you will get the right atmosphere of a bike club. I never been to the Shed but spent MANY, MANY happy hours and ride outs from THE ACE CAFE over 15 (ish) years.
yep cheers
Agreed! Ace on Friday night and on a Bright sunny weekend cant be beat!!!!
Used to go to Rykers cafe at Box Hill near Dorking Surrey. Great place to meet up
The best is wherever your friends are, and if the answer is neither, then that says it all 😂 great video, very cool to see your world
Thanks so much
Used the love the Ace, but has steadily gone downhill in quality (as it's prices have increased), whereas the Shed just keeps getting better and better and is now my favourite of the two. Your (excellent) video summed it up for me as The bike Shed is a destination for a great ride-out, and the Ace is now just somewhere to stop for a cuppa on the way there.
Yep seems that way cheers
Nice one Alf. Love the Ace, loads of history and some great ride outs my favourite is Brighton burn up. Bike sheds nice too albeit a different vibe.
Yes totally cheers
Travelled to WARRS and URBAN RIDER on my RGS with baggage and the missus on the back stranger to London what a nightmare was fun though not for the wife.Best for me in the UK is Squires coffee bar Sherburn in Elmet si thi !!
Interesting comments about both biker cafe's. Thanks Alf!
Cheers Larry
Been to both.. for me I prefer the ace as love watching bikes inland out.. the bikeshed I found too clinical and due to licence could only get beer with food but the bikes were cool. I do recommend to try each at least once.. but also like to keep out of londonshire
ha ha yes. I've just got back from bike show at Exel and what a git riding back through
Thank you for taking us for a ride that was cool. I am not gonna lie I liked the second place better 😎 👍
cheers. Yep there's a lot to like about the second place but just not for me that's all
@@RevelatorAlf it is all good we all have the special place we like to visit but While ai can only watch you can feel the vibe while there. I get it 100
The biker café scene in the UK is hardly known to me, because my wife and I are always on the road there by car.
But here in Germany, almost every snack bar is now called "Biker Café" or "Bikertreff". The ambience usually leaves much to be desired, but with the motorcyclists you can still earn money.
I know that quite differently from my beginnings in the mid-70s. We motorcyclists were often treated as rockers or lepers by the innkeepers. Sometimes we were denied access.
Yep still a little bit of that here in few places
It's a polarizing one ;) I'm steering well clear of the Shed!
Yep not for me really I must say
Interesting vid, especially since I never been in any of these. The bike shed does come off as unique with the inside parking. Besides atmosphere, are the food options and quality worthwhile in these places ?
Yep that’s fine cheers
My softail is obnoxiously loud so i doubt they even let it into the bike shed.
I prefer older and grittier bike destinations so i dont think I would go to either one, other than to say i went.
Yep 👍
You've just reminded me, that its a pretty crap ride to both of them as well 😄 My city riding days are over now
Ha ha yep not really my favourite rides either
I've moved out of London near the coast now, and I much prefer visiting biker cafes that are dotted along twisty country roads. Places like Loomies (Alton), Whiteways cafe (Arundel), Rye harbour, 1066 cafe (a21), Custom cafe (Bexhill) and even Rykas (Boxhill) and Newlands corner, although when I lived in South London, I used to frequent the last two so much I got a bit bored of them. The problem is, all these places do tend to get full of knobheads when its decent biking weather. Maybe I'm just getting old
Ha ha yep
Ooohhhh.... I enjoyed this one! Nice to see where can go for a snack and relax while out on the bike, amongst other bikers to bike/people watch. I think I would prefer the Bike Shed. It looks like it has a gentlemen biker vibe going on. I am not into the roughty toughty biker look... or attitude. The one thing that puts me off about bike events and hangouts, especially Harley events (even though I really like Harleys), is their insistence on playing hard rock. music. Even if the Ace seems more authentic as a biker place, I would need to hear the vibe too to decide about that. Mind you, I am still on the lookout for an Irish Pub cross Biker hangout type place. Thank goodness for variety I say. :)
Just add: You guys in England are really lucky with the variety of pubs you guys have. Out in the countryside, so many! And usually good food too. Living in Switzerland, and having the alps is amazing. But imagine if there were nice pubs to frequent as well? How awesome that would be.
Video series: Rides to pubs with a review of the roads and pub grub. :)
Ok sounds good and fattening too ha ha
Cheers
I didnt like the bike shed much either, the ace is iconic but as you you said, very themed too.
The best for me of all I've visited, is the super sausage on the A5 watling street.
A great mix of people and bikes, from classics through sports, and harleys.
Food is excellent, and at non rip off prices too.☕🥧🇬🇧
Ah ok I must try that. Cheers
Me too.
Only thing missing from here were the menus.
You were reviewing Biker Cafes buddy.
ha ha I wasn't reviewing the food
I think the bike shed is brilliant. If you watch their channel you’ll soon realise how much they do for the biker scene. The effort and investment they’ve put in is epic.I love going to the more traditional biker cafes like Box hill, Newlands corner and Loomies, but the Bike Shed is something a bit different and I think they’ve filled a gap in the market.Don’t think it’s really aimed at old farts like us though
ha ha yep
Tried both, my meal in bike shed arrived on a roof slate, Nuff said ?
Yep
Done ace many a time now, she'd gave that a miss, like to go just to say so, but city riding, done those days, not for me if I can help it. Very commercial attractive these modern cafes
Yep 👍
I’ve eaten at the bike shed. Overpriced flavourless food. The Ace serves a proper fried breakfast.
yep, not overly impressed
Come down south on the junction off the a32 a272 two off the best roads over the South Downs and you will find the cafe loomies
yes already know that one chers
Owls nest at Llandovery very good . Baffle haus abergeveny is different
Ah yes I may take a trip soon out that way too
@@RevelatorAlf if in area let's us know
There are some amazing roads and rides were lucky its on our door step
Okay Alf ... now you need to go find a real "bike" bar/eatery/hangout whatever. This is all nice, but let's see something real. Off the top of my head I can think of one in southern Mississippi called _The Shed._ It's a combination of all sorts of buildings and indeed sheds all stuck together. The food, drink, music and activities are great. I'm not talking bad-arsed biker bar with knife fights at the bar and shootings in the patio, just a real biker-ish hangout. Go find a nice spot like that for us.
Off ye go then,
S
ha ha off I will
Rykas for bikes
The Chalet Cafe in Cowfold for food
Ace Cafe was disappointing - Bike Shed was a tad hipster. I find the bike places further south are more interesting personally
The second 🥈
Yo
Neither are any good , you are right the bike shed is a themed restaurant with expensive clothing and barber shop . The ace had lost its way .
Try the Epping tea hut on a nice sunny Sunday !!!!
ah I will indeed cheers
I would rather visit Rykas in BOxhill Surrey its more of real bikers “cafe “ than these two though i live in west London i prefer open roads on my Harley softail slim
Yep 👍 good place
Loomies or Ryka's the best.
Yep 👍
It's the Ace Caff mate, there's no A on the end!! It's worth a visit for the history but the ride there is rubbish. Bike shed is ok for the brown seat brigade but over priced and poncy. Real biker caffs are surrounded by decent bike roads and don't sell t-shirts, tea and coffee varies from ok to bloody awful but you don't go there for that anyway. Proper caffs are just a handy spot to meet up with like minded people and talk shit about bikes, and have a wee of course!
Ha ha ok 👍
Hi Kev & Alf ! NZ has millions of cafes and here a cafe is a cafe. And there are countless of them on the rural roads, including the real outback rural roads. Your last sentence sums what it’s all about and that’s what it’s like in NZ. Very laid back here. I didn’t realise UK had themed cafes like that. I welcome all you UK riders to visit NZ.
The H is better than both.
Also very close to Benson 🙂
Yep decent
