Conserving Labels using Chain Print

  • When using a Brother Label maker, the margins are often very huge. If you are printing one label at a time, it can really waste a considerable amount of the expensive label tape. Most of their label makers do have a feature called "Chain Print" that will allow you to make labels in a way that will conserve a considerable amount of tape. This video is a short tutorial on how I use to use the chain print feature.

    I usually create my labels this way: type label #1, press space bar 2 or 3 times, then type label #2, add more spaces, type label #3 etc.

    Hi Aguila, Great video! I love your labels. How many spaces did you put between each "label" in your chain?

    • @kaguila
      @kaguila  3 роки тому +5

      Actually, I dont add any spaces between the "labels". That space is automatic when using the chain print feature. The only time I add spaces is when I get to the last "label" that I want to print. Then I add about 5 spaces so that the cutter does not cut off the end of the label. Does that make sense?

      @@kaguila Thanks, I dusted off my P-Touch 1000 the other day and was looking up how to space the labels appropriately and your video was very helpful! I like that it's short and to the point. I skipped over longer vids on the topic ;-P
      My next question today was how to include a short feed space so the last label doesn't get cut off. You've now answered that for me also. I've got to say, for an older Brother P-Touch, it is still working like new. I didn't use it much so I don't know the durability. I find it's helpful to label dates on things. I bought rechargeable batteries for it and wanted to print the month/year on them as I'm using rechargeable batts where I can, and in this case I like that I have mobility and don't need to plug it into an outlet.

    OK. CHAIN PRINT. Enter text for 1st label. I just read a comment that might have answered my next question... After entering the text you press PRINT? And print that 1st label? Erase that text. And then you type in the text for the 2nd label and press PRINT? Doesn't that automatically cut the label? On a 24mm wide label I need to do 2 lines... Would that work with this method, too? Thanks for your time!!!

    • @kaguila
      @kaguila  4 роки тому +2

      That is a good question. After the last word, I hit the space button about 4 or 5 times. It will then print that many blank spaces after the last word. I find that generally to be enough spaces to also give me enough of a margin around the last word. Hope that helps.

    Sorry if this is off subject a bit... Really need some help with this.... I recently acquired older model PT-1750 and really like it... However, I am unable to change font size when printing TWO line labels. It will only print the two lines in really small character text size. No issues with the single line printing; all sizes available there. I am using the widest 18mm tape which appears to have plenty of room for two lines with larger character text. But user manual does not address this and Brother support is of little help also.... Any ideas if larger character text is available when printing two lines... or only the small default size 1 text...?? .......THANKS...

    • @kaguila
      @kaguila  8 місяців тому +1

      No problem, I’m not as familiar with that particular model. However, it looks similar to what I was using. With my older model, you could also make double lines, but there was no way to adjust the fonts. I think that yours will be the same. It will automate the font size on multiple lines. I have not ever found a way to change the font size and multiple lines on these older models. That is also one of the reasons why I changed the model of printer that I primarily use. I am now mainly using the PT 610 series. The reason I switched to that is because it works in conjunction with the brother software. Creating labels on the computer gives me much more flexibility to create the labels I need . The software opens up a whole new world of possibilities. For example, I can make a label with multiple lines on it and I can change the font size on each line. I hope it helps some. Probably not what you were hoping. If I do discover anything contrary to what I just said, I’ll repost with some updated notes.

    • @adctex
      @adctex 8 місяців тому

      @@kaguila ... I really appreciate your reply and now believe as you, that character size with printing 2 lines on these older models is fixed at some small default, regardless of the printer tape width... Oh well.... good excuse to think about an upgrade. Only have $15 in the PT1750, plus same for three 18mm print tapes off Amazon... Again... thanks...!!

    • @kaguila
      @kaguila  7 місяців тому

      My pleasure@@adctex. The good news is that your18mm tape should still work in the upgrade you choose. Brother has been good to keep their TZ line of tape across many of their models. Be sure the next one you get is compatible with the computer software. You will be pleased with the many options that will open up for you. If I was in the market now, I would consider the PTP910BT for future proofing. (although I am still tempted to get it) It is pricy, but you get 360 dpi which is great for laminated label making. It also can do 36mm tape and unto 17 lines per label. But even the PTD410 is a great economical choice, it has the computer compatibility as well as many onboard preset options.

    • @kaguila
      @kaguila  2 роки тому

      I think you are asking how each label is a different size. Correct? Try this. When you hit your function button to bring up your menu, scroll through until you see label length. Then hit the OK button. Scroll through all of the label length options until you see the word auto. This should make your labels each sized according to the amount of text that you have on your label. Does that make sense? If that does not answer your question let me know. I can’t spend 22$ for every tape. The only reason I can think they give such a gap is to force the user to have to keep purchasing more expensive tape. I seriously wish we could have a setting to get rid of that big piece which prints before & after a singular label. I often don’t have a list of labels to create. I think of them hear & there. I don't believe it is an intentional thing done by Brother to waste tape. It is a design situation. Think about it. Open up the unit. The place where the printer head is positioned is about 1 inch from the cutter. This is because that likely was the closest they could put it and accessible to the tape cartridge as it is feeding out. The only way around this situation is to put the cutter internally closer to the print head but there would be issues with that.

    Those large margins are design to make large profit margins for Brother, while wasting tape and consumer´s money. Cheap trick.

    Thank you it is such a waste of tape otherwise! Brother trying all sorts of ways to create more income!! LOL

      That's an accusation. it's a design issue with the TZe tape cartridges, because the laminating stage has to go somewhere. The "wasted space" is the piece of tape sitting in the lamination stage after the print head. The tape can't know what you're going to print next, so it is a byproduct margin. There are labelmakers like the Dymo LetraTag that don't have this issue, but the labels are not as durable, because they're not laminated and thermal print only.
