It started badly however, with Stewart Downing and Yakubu putting Boro 2-0 up inside 21 minutes. But heads never dropped and Dave Kitson prodded home for the Royals just before half time, and the Madejski was soon rocking when Steve Sidwell slotted home just a minute later. Kitson would go on to suffer a nasty injury following a rash challenge from Chris Riggott, and his replacement Leroy Lita grabbed the winner after congestion in the Middlesbrough penalty area resulting in the perfect start to Premier League life.
