My second vehicle was a 1959 Series 2 SWB Landrover (purchased in the early 70s). It appeared to have had a rugged life and it was only just before scrapping it did we find the Snowy Mountains Authority stickers on the doors (under a "newer" paint scheme). Certainly explained its condition.
Yeah , the Early Diffs were a Rover CAR Diff . They were forever snapping Half-shafts . OR stripping Drive blocks . The Salisbury Diff was a VAST improvement .
What a great episode ! Always good to see a Defender on the road. Still on my second Discovery , now 20 yrs old and I'm hoping to convert it to EV in the distant future? I drive modern 4wds' for work . but none drive as well or feel the same as the Disco. Cheers Gregg.
The trial version of the Perentie did actually have the front axle panhard rod in the wrong location, resulting in a propensity to roll if hitting a hole when turning left at speed. They moved the panhard rod across a tad and fixed that issue.
A friend of mine who lived in Kenya told me that when the Defenders with the coil-over arrived the roll-overs became a big thing, which they hadn't been with the old leaf-spring suspension. That was his excuse, anyway.
My 1957 Series 1 107 SW and 1960 Series 2 88" has tapered edges on both sides of the wheel nuts... Easy beazy, no confusion, solid grip... Smaller nuts and studs though. To change rims with a newer model, you need the bigger nut with the same smaller hole... Crazy, the British 😂
Amazingly Spectacular! Thank you for sharing this video. Range Rovers & Land Rovers are a Class on their own! I own 3 Classic Range Rovers & two classic Jaguas in Port Moresby & in Madang, and need some work to get them going again. There is no other 4 wheel drive like Range Rovers! Greetings from Madang, Papua New Guinea!
It was very short sighted of JLR to kill it off,now the Army uses Mercedes G wagen which is allmost a copy of the LR,just offered in many flavours a bare bones for army and a 6.3 Amg overkill for city show offs and mafioso.
Well, there was a reason back then why Land Rovers weren’t trusted to get you safely home. And that reason is even more valid today! Great engineering ideas, awful execution.
I disagree...I've had my Disco for 20 yrs and It's never let me down. If you service them and know what to look for, they are reliable cars. Though I wouldn't buy a new one or anything after about 2010. . Gregg.
Legend car, you can't had enough of it. each Defender had their owned character.

2011 D4 5.0 litre V8
Love my LandRover’s
Great to see a positive story with people working together. Please ABC can we have more?
Let’s Hope They Do The Toyota Land Cruiser Next!

My grandfather drove a series 1 around western Queensland for his work, my dad had discoveries and now I drive Toyota 79 series 😃
Got to love Australia 🇦🇺

Awesome video ✌
I remember when we got the defenders in the Army, The brass were worried we wouldn't be able to drive the coil over setup without rolling.

At 6:10 the wheel nuts are on backwards- the taper is supposed to go towards the wheel
apparently the wheel nuts had a taper at each end

The early wheels take a double ended 15/16" lug nut, the newer ones use a 1-1/16" single sided nut. Good eye though!

"95% of all Land Rovers ever built are still on the road today....the others made it home OK"
Jip, one of the oldest Land Rover jokes used by Land Cruiser owners...
Move on, bro, I wrote the book on Landie jokes...
Long live the Green Oval 💪🏻🇿🇦
I got it noticed a Toyota Prado and a Ford Ranger. They must be the support vehicles (in case they break down, or is it when they break down?) 😂
@@davidburchill9333 Peasants joke
It's actually a Harley Davidson joke
Great piece of journalism ABC.
Only in a Series Land Rover it's just simply a way of life
Who owns the Orkney 90? Is the formerly the beast orkney? Would love to see more action videos of it. Nice to see old and new rovers get together.
I wonder if they will let Ineos Grenadier owners in? ;)
Any make can join land rover club
The LROCV welcomes everyone. There is also a Grenadier Club in Victoria.
Interesting, from a Long time Jeep'r.
The sad thing is the newer land rovers are more of a Prahran truck these days…
Expected more about the Perentie with that title.
Not a mention of the brilliant Isuzu engine
The 110 landy was never called “PERENTIE “ it was the code name for the vehicle trials. Otherwise we have the Nissan Perentie, the Mercedes Perentie.
Convincing a land rover owner that theyre 4x4 is unreliable is like trying to convince a flat earther that the earth is round
🎉 great 👍
I think the biggest improvement to the Land Rover was Toyota.
Couldn't agree more
I'm amazed the ABC is even running this story, and not a story about EV's and 'climate change' 🥴
Yes. & The pinkos @Thier ABC left the comments section open. Utterly amazing.Got something back for all the tax paid.
no footage of L663 at all?
rightly so 😁
@@hughpeters8344 blasphemy! 😂
I wonder what these chaps think of the Landcruiser.
We are forever Landyists.
But the early To¥ota Land Cruisers were cool.

Where’s the ineos
Bogged

Er, what?
But not Japanese Reliable,,is it?
5 days in the shop 2 on the road, typical Land Rover most unreliable vehicle on the road

the new landrovers are too plastic for the club owners, i think the new ones are too shiny and for the grocery run rather the CAMEL TROPHY
yea all fun and games...
and then the Japanese arrived
Utter aussie bs 😂
