I'll give her this: she's willing to muck about in slimy and polluted water for this entertaining charade. Just to make things clear, this is fiction. Molluscs, even when seeded on a farm, rarely come out 100% spherical and never in these garish colours. It takes a lot of processing to get this kind of colour though shell pearls do make it easier. This is an entertaining farce.

The pros use a spreader tool and open it just enough to retrieve the pearls with a tool. The way she does it just kills them.
