Apparently you went watching Michaels Videos from S.M.Boatworks very closely About never Fiberglassing a wooden boat I stopped watching your video at that point and gave you the thumbs down, Sorry But That is Just Wrong!!! And its not the way to do it!!!
you prolly dont give a shit but does any of you know a tool to get back into an instagram account? I was stupid lost the login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
Congratulations! Just ran across this video. What an undertaking! Way to stay focused on the goal. I can see your painstaking attention to detail and the results show. Well done!
I had that that boat . sold it for 3500.bought a 51 Rivera . took it out the water 2 year's ago .my dream is to restore it myself .what a great job you did . Wish I had more information about your classic boat. thanks
**AWESOME RESTORATION** ABSOLUTELY LOVE ALL THE "DARK STAIN & WHITE PAINT CONTRASTING" ADAPTATION! WOW = INTERIOR!!! HUGE ENGINE BOX! GREAT JOB OPS! = CONGRATS & HAVE LIMITLESS FUN ABOARD HER!
Very nice custom restoration. My brother Alan owned this boat for many years and even though we are in the boat and engine restoration business we never could find time to start this project. I also find it is a small world in that Michael at Snake Mountain purchased a Mark 55H restoration from us for use on his Speedliner DU racing boat.Good luck with your fine project.David Van WeeleAeroliner Race Boats, LLC
She's a very cool boat, I love the old wooden boats however, ya'll created something old with a modern twist to it & imho she's groovy, job well done Brother.
I am looking to buy an old chris craft for $2500 no engine just the boat itself. torn between going for a restoration or buying a good running chris craft for 22k. but I like the idea of restoring an old boat just because you can do whatever you want with it since you are spending money anyway. That is a very nice boat you have there. I bet it's a head turner.
So you didn't restore the engine but put a new one in? What a beautiful restoration. Amazing project. I like the interior, beautiful ... and the new cap you designed for the front.
Alston- I have viewed your video a couple of times. I am also restoring a 1956 Chris Craft Holiday for the first time. The boat seems to be in very solid condition and I am in the process of stripping the original finish off the hull. I have been researching the different methods of redoing the bottom...epoxy/fiberglass vs the 5200 bottom. I saw that you glassed your bottom and was curious how it was holding up after (3) years of use. Also...what type of cloth did you use? I have previous experience with "S" glass and was considering using that on my boat. Thanks, Stan Graham
Look up SnakeMtBoatWorks on youtube and watch their videos. James Town distributors online was my go to for products. Antiqueboat.com was another valuable site. My best advice is to do as much research as you can and make your own decisions based on research, Be creative, learn from your mistakes and most importantly keep moving on with the project no matter what until its complete. Best of luck !!
Good Job, screw the naysayer's . you did your homework and it's your boat. keeping a boat in a northern lake is a big difference than keeping it in the Sunshine State. thumbs up............
I'm reading further in the comments. Says don't put fiberglass on a wood boat but I've seen a lot of wood boat projects on line where fiberglass is layered over wood. So I don't understand this comment. Either this is incorrect, just someone's opinion or a bunch of very experienced builders are doing the wrong thing. Can someone clarify?
There are many opinions. When someone says fiberglass I assume polyester resin and fiberglass cloth. It has a bad reputation. Epoxy / glass is better. Much depends on how the boat is being used. My last restoration was on a boat that would be on a trailer between uses and I opted to epoxy / glass the bottom as I felt that the alternate wetting / swelling / taking up and drying out would be worse, constantly working the fasteners. Since this boat has a substantial trailer I assume it isn't kept in the water.
Experience and doing things right are quite often two very different things. My father had a saying: "just because you have been doing it this way for years doesn't necessarily mean it's done properly"!
PLEASE DONT EVER PUT A FIBERGLASS BOTTOM ON A CLASSIC WOOD BOAT. ITS LIKE AN EGG SHELL ON A TENNIS BALL. THESE BOATS ARE MEANT TO FLEX. IT WILL ONLY BREAK THE FRAMES IN SHORT ORDER. THEY SIGNED THE DEATH SENTENCE TO THIS ONE.
Apparently you went watching Michaels Videos from S.M.Boatworks very closely About never Fiberglassing a wooden boat I stopped watching your video at that point and gave you the thumbs down, Sorry But That is Just Wrong!!! And its not the way to do it!!!
this rebuild was researched by many people wasn't just glasssed over. everything was thought out using modern materials and is being used in saltwater. boat is still fine and being used today. owner can do what he wants it's his boat and doesn't want to have to leave it swelled in the water all year in Florida. keeping a wooden boat in a boathouse in a northern lake is a big difference than trailering a boat in the Sunshine State.
I applaud your commitment to this project, I am however saddened at some of the choices you made. I'm sure you thought it was a good idea but the fiberglass coating on the bottom is a death sentence, the water in the bilge is now trapped and will promote rot in what's left of the planking, ribs, knees and chines. The black hull paint although striking, does not fit the originality or the style of the boat.I'm glad you enjoy it but you have removed all value and tarnished the name Chris Craft.
Thank you for your feedback Craig, luckily for you this boat is my Chris Craft and NOT yours. Sadly the only thing that was tarnished was the value of your opinion. Take care, be safe Craig !!
@@MrAlstonbc I was also questioning what happened with the underside. A slideshow can't really tell every single thing, so I want to ask: did you repair/replace the damaged wood before glassing? Some of those photos of the bottom were pretty darned rough. Take note that I disagree with any tarnishing of the Chris Craft name. Either you restore it or it continues to degrade. Glad you made something of this.
Excellent! What a wonderful transformation that preserved Chris-Craft's original design while adding some very cool retro embellishments!
Thank You !! Couldn't have done it without your insight and expertise !!

Thank you !!!
wow wow wow ... but what good is the stereo with that great engine
Thank you !!!
Valid point, sometimes hearing her purr is all the music that I need to hear.
I guess that's one way to do it if you are not going to restore it to its exact original state. Can't argue though you did a Great job!!
As much as I appreciate the original boat out of the factory, I wanted something with a modern twist. Thank you !!!

Ive always wanted this boat... I hit the lotto I'm finding you to buy it! just absolutely beautiful man, awesome work!
Thank you for your kind words, much appreciated!!
They still build modern mahogany wooden runabouts at Hacker-Craft in upstate New York … you won’t have to restore any of them !!!

The process of restoring the boat and adding your own personalization is an experience in itself. Best of luck on your journey Janus !!
I get the feeling that the fh 6 was original ,they sound so cool .
They are great engines, I still have the original
Good puppers got in on the still shots at 2:26min lol.
They wanted a cameo LOL
So you didn't restore the engine but put a new one in? What a beautiful restoration. Amazing project. I like the interior, beautiful ... and the new cap you designed for the front.
It would have been cool to do a glass engine enclosure to show off the beautiful engine.
Excellent idea, I thought about it but instead just left a cut out plexiglass look through. Thank you !!

Sportsman? I think the original had he straight 6.
Correct, inline 6 95hp
Sorry hit the wrong button, have you ever used 5200 to bead planks together on a crisis craft boat???
I just bought a 1956 in similar condition as this one started out. Do you happen to have a list of materials and vendors that you used?

Matthew Unruh buy Don Danenbergs book on how to restore a wooden boat then go restore your boat and do as the book says.
Sweet Beautiful Girl
Thank you !!
Another approach would have been to restore it to original. Leave the Gray Marine engine in it and it would be worth a whole lot more.
That is a possibility, but I didn’t want to restore it to original. I wanted to add my own touch to it to make it unique.

Often rots out from the inside out. Very hard to see when it’s fiberglass over. Never ever fiberglass under the waterline

great job.....should have stayed with chris craft exhaust instead of sierra merc, china knock off,,,just saying
Thank you !!! Needed the upgraded exhaust for the upgraded engine
Have you ever used 5200 to
vernon smith yes I have, I used some on my restoration. Very good product for permanent attachments 👌🏻

Well if it wasn't for people doing things like this then restorers wouldn't be in business

What a disappointment. All that and we get no video of it running on the water? Bah!
Don’t want to disappoint, Enjoy !!

You didn't fiber glass the bottom, did you? I hope not! This is not a "restoration." This is anything but OEM. Frankly, it's awful!
Frankly, it’s your opinion, and that’s okay
