Ivan Moody, the singer, recently celebrated 42 months of sobriety in their video: "The Tragic Truth". He overcame his demons. A few years ago he quit halfway through a show because he wasnt doing well and went into rehab for alcohol.
I recommend watching/listening to "Coming Down", the official video.
The only problem I had with 'The Tragic Truth' was that 2 people who should of been in that video, Jason Hook and Jeremy Spencer. They were both there when that song was recorded, and were there when that incident happened.

As others have said, Ivan has been 42 months sober after he almost drank himself to death. What I take from this video is he's apologizing to all those iconic musicians who died from substance abuse, for not learning from their mistakes and to his fans. Of course he was digging his own grave, but at the end he buried his drinking habit instead of himself.
He's apologizing to everyone he's hurt in his life. Not some musicians he didn't know

I had the privilege of seeing them in Balad, Iraq. We got mortared during the show, they played louder and faster. I went to one of their shows stateside, same energy. So many songs connect with the "inner monolog" of almost every vet I have met.

Yes , he was digging his own grave . His problem with alcohol killed his marriage and was killing him . That is why the headstone at that grave said Ivan Moody on it .. and why at the end he tossed the flask in the grave . Signalling the death of his addiction instead of himself .
Ivan Moody was in the Service b4 he started his band.
i got to see them live and it was such a fantastic show, they are just as good if not better live

Edit: On the last part of your video you said something along the lines of potential Alc abuse. Yes he did, has gone to rehab a few times if im correct. The former singer of bad wolves was the front man of the band during part of a tour because he checked him self into rehab.
I saw these guys live during the American Capitalist tour, crazy good live show! I don't think you'll hear a song by these guys you won't enjoy.
This is one of my favorite songs. The first time I heard it the lyrics hit me like a ton of bricks. It explains my life to the T. I have many regrets and things I don't feel I have gotten past. It haunts me daily. This song helps me get through the hard times.
I think the idea is more like regretting what they didn't do instead of what they did in life
"Living the Dream" would be a very interesting video to comment upon, considering it's criticism and satire of recent events and people.

When I listen and hear this song. I think about my fellow fallen brothers and sisters in arm's. As a VETERAN we pass on the story's of the fallen so that the younger generation will understand their sacrifice for the greater cause. That mankind shall always remain free.
I apologize to my fallen. That it was you and not me that fell. You had dream's to live. Just as much as I did. Some were to be new father's of their first child and never got that chance.

Yes Ivan is an alcoholic and it damn near killed him and destroyed the band. He's been sober for a while now. When FFDP is on point there are 1 of the most sonically vocally crushing bands in the world. I wish they would go back to more of the way of the fist style but 1 things for sure, this band is known for putting out music that will nut punch your soul.
This song is about Ivan's struggle with alcoholism and yes in the video he was digging his own grave Because if he knew he didn't get sober he was going to die early
To me, the imagery of the video was him digging his own grave, and, at the very end, he buried the thing that was going to kill him instead of staying in the grave. It's an image of no more time to choose, you either give up the thing that's killing you or you don't make it out alive.
You should listen to „Angels and Airwaves - We are all that we are“ with its fantastic guitar solo at the end. Best ever. I‘m very interested in what you say about that one!

Great pick up on the throwing of the flask. He did have a severe bout with alcohol to the point the band almost broke up.
You need to watch their new video (old song new video) the tragic truth. It’s kinda a follow up to this. So Ivan the singer has struggled with sobriety for years. Hence the grave and the flask at the end of the video and all the famous artists he visited.

Yes he had a severe alcohol addiction and their song the tragic truth goes into that. If I'm correct they made this song right as he started his recovery and rehab

FFDP is great, I love Ivan Moody's vocals. To hear him do something a bit different check out Ivan Moody "A Penny For A Tale" from the movie Devil's Carnival. I love the DC soundtrack and his is one of my favorite songs on it.

i got to see FFDP and breaking benjarmin in irvine CA a few years ago and truthfully FFDP in my opinion is better live than recorded and there stage presence is fucking amazing

What I think most people miss is that he is apologizing to himself.

Without knowing too much about FFDP, other than they are great to the troops In support, and I know the lead singer has issues, is he trying to say he is in that same group as those people on the grave musically (Cobain, Staley, etc..)? Cause he’s not, but if it’s merely about the addiction, I get the message.
