- Now is the Hour, from River of Dreams, The Very Best of Hayley Westenra.
Maori:
Po atarau
E moea iho nei
E haere ana
Koe ki pamamao
Haere ra;
Ka hoki mai ano;
Ki i te tau
E tangi atu nei
English:
Now is the hour,
When we must say goodbye.
Soon you'll be sailing far across the sea.
While you're away, oh, please remember me.
When you return, you'll find me waiting here.
Now is the hour, when we must say goodbye.
When you return, you'll find me waiting here.
When you return, you'll find me waiting here.
Clement Scott/ Maewa Kaihau
This was sung as the Maori contingent left NZ to go to Gallipoli. This tune we maori farewell our lads where ever they go.
This brings back sad but fond memories. Family and friends sung this as my family left Wellington harbour for the UK back in 1967. The boat was covered in streamers and I can still hear the singing. Wonderful song. It was also sung at the end of rugby tours especially when the Lions toured NZ.
I remember this song as a child going to NZ, they would play this as the ship sailed from the Dock....
My mother had a 15 min radio program in 1945 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas...This was her most requested song. I really miss my mother's voice.
Such a beautiful song! The clarity and perfection of Hayley's voice is just incredible!
we played this as the last song at my fathers funeral, not a dry eye in the church.. he was a proud kiwi and this is the song he requested. beautiful xx
i know Im kind of randomly asking but do anybody know a good place to watch newly released movies online?

I first heard this heavenly/timeless singer a couple days ago at the closing ceremony of the Rugby World Cup 2011 when she sung this very song. I literally got teary (and I am a 19 year old man) because her voice is akin to that of an angel. A truly beautiful woman and voice. She will go far! :'D
"Search me, O God, and know my heart, I pray..." That's the hymn we sing to this same tune. I just remembered....
This played at my grandmas funeral. I can't stop listening. It's beautiful!
This is the song played when a ship leaves port. They sang it when I left for England from Auckland in 1970, all streamers & cheering. I will never forget it, so emotional & beautiful. I & 2000 others were on the now defunct SS Australis, & we all loved it at the time.
Song sung for New Zealand Troops leaving for front in WWI. Each soldier so dear for such
a small country. Each soldier coming back from war, so precious.
THE MUSIC WAS WRITTEN BY CLEMENTS SCOTT, IN 1906..THE LYRICS, MAORI & PAKEHA, WERE WRITTEN BY MY GRANDFATHER & GRANDAUNTIES, DANIEL KAWHIA GRACE & JANE GRACE, AND MISS POTENE AWATERE IN 1923...THE MUSIC WAS CALLED "SWISS CRADLE LULLABY"...I WAS GIVEN THE RIGHTS TO THE SONG BY MY AUNTY NGAIO GRACE IN 1990, BEFORE SHE PASSED AWAY..GREAT JOB HAYLEY
I've just heard this song for the first time tonight -while watching the end of the Rugby World Cup telecast from Auckland -sung live by Hayley. (Congrats to the All Blacks team -well done guys!). Beautiful voice, beautiful song. Thanks Hayleywestenrafan1 for posting it here.
My Mum loved this song even though she was an Aussie and it brings back many memories of my Mum.
So beautiful ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
When my wife and I emigrated to the US many years ago, I later found the English words to this song written out on a scrap of paper and tucked among my things. She has long gone, and I am now retired. Only lately have I realised how it must have been for my mother at the time. We just don't think when we are young.
The song brings a lump to my throat, and makes me sad I did not understand at the time her feelings. God Bless you Mom, and all the parents now right now, who are experiencing same
Ramon Newton I know what you mean, I'm Maori and my dad's family have sung this son for as long as I can remember.
When my dad passed last year this song always reminds me of him and every time I hear I can't hold back the tears it's just a beautiful as song.
Beautifully put God bless you 🙏

My memory is of Hong Kong 6/97. Though in different fields, Governor (now Lord) Patten and I had become friendly. At Tamar, Patten delivered the best political speech of the end of the century. At the end of his speech, the orchestra played Nimrod - and we were all in tears. We had just delivered 6.5M people back into slavery. Later, boarding Britannia, the Marine band played Now is the Hour endlessly, the vetted well wishers almost clutching at the Patten's to stay - as if it was all a bad dream. Sadly it was not.
EXCELENTE!!
nice hayley it should be reckonised my poa and ana hato were the first record this in1926
the hymn that was mentioned with the same tune is
Search me, O God, and know my heart today,
Try me, O Savior, know my thoughts, I pray;
See if there be some wicked way in me;
Cleanse me from every sin, and set me free.
I praise Thee, Lord, for cleansing me from sin;
Fulfill Thy word and make me pure within;
Fill me with fire, where once I burned with shame;
Grant my desire to magnify Thy name.
Lord, take my life, and make it wholly Thine;
Fill my poor heart with Thy great love divine;
Take all my will, my passion, self and pride;
I now surrender, Lord, in me abide.
O Holy Ghost, revival comes from Thee;
Send a revival, start the work in me;
Thy Word declares Thou wilt supply our need;
For blessings now, O Lord, I humbly plead.
Hayley Westenra Mary Christmas and Happy New Year to my love
@losdosabuelos It was originally written by Clement Scott, who was Australian, and later Maori lyrics were added, as a farewell to Maori soldiers in the First World War (source: Wikipedia).
Like a number of posters I noticed this for the first time at the close of the Rugby Worl Cup. Not my normal taste in music but christ it moved me big time. Does sound like a traditional Irish type lament. Anyway, many thanks and Kia ora from Dublin Ireland !
Blasphemy
Beautiful Lullaby Sung by Hayley Westenra sung in Maori and English
heard this song after the Rugby World Cup final....Well Done All Blacks. from a Wallabies Supporter...hahaha
kolomotua100 wow 🤣
This is a beautiful lullaby sung in Maori and English
No es un lullaby o canción de cuna, es una hermosa canción de despedida
Maybe this is a New Zealand song..but I remember it in the early 1950s as a child, being sung on the quayside in Belfast as the ferries left for Liverpool loaded with emigrants ..and then to the USA Australia and New Zealand. I always thought it was Irish!
only my opinion; this is what music is.
One most gorgeous
angel to listening to and I love you
Big hugs and kisses to you my love
My dads funeral song dad you will be missed
Rip Sean Wainui🖤
This is the tune of a church song
This tune sounds better sung in Maori.
The bigger a news media source becomes the less tolerant of others right to free speech they allow.The bigger the news source the less credible they become .
When a news source has the power to control the arts they wiil be committing a crime against all humanity.Take care ADonovan43
@losdosabuelos It was an international hit in 1948.
We sing a hymn to this exact same tune in my church. ... I can't remember what it's called at the moment.... Actually, the reason I don't know the words or the title just occurred to me: It's always played at the invitation...we never sing it. :) funny.
Hm, interesting. I've known this tune to go with a hymn titled: "Search Me O God".
@kellygthatsme I've been wondering the same thing myself! :)
