    Is this the C&WI RR bridge over the Calumet River next to the Torrence Ave. Bridge?

      It's based on the bridge here..

    Who manufactured the vertical lift bridge?

    • @MarkRothman
      @MarkRothman  2 роки тому

      I designed and engineered the bridge based off the real bridge in Chicago, We 3D printed most of the structural parts out of brass, had the vertical beams machined out of brass and one of my modeler/electrical people assembled it at the company I work for SMARTTINC.com

      @@MarkRothman I asked because a couple years ago I saw a bridge that looked very much like it by a manufacturer that had a list of structures and I can't remember the company name. Thanks for responding.

      @@wolfgang548 This was a one off piece for a client. All of our models and layouts are one-off designs.

    Vertical-lift and bascule..and I believe the iconic "Blues Brothers Movie" poster bridges!

      You are 100% correct. And we even placed a couple Blues Brothers Easter eggs in a couple of our prior layouts. Great catch.

    Is this something you built yourself from scratch, or did you purchase a kit to fabricate this bridge?

      The front bascule bridge was based on a kit that we replaced and upgraded all of the moving parts. The vertical lift bridge was 100% custom designed and built based on a single span of the Calumet River Bridge in Chicago, IL. From machined brass rods for the main tower supports, 3d printed brass for the upper pulley wheels, upper trusses and caps, laser cut acrylic for the moving section of the lift bridge, then covered in 3d printed gussets with rivets. There are also 3d printed supports inside the tower itself, made out of high detail plastic. Some off the shelf parts were used for filler detail.

      +Mark Rothman I figured it was a scratchbuild. Nobody makes an HO scale vertical lift bridge that I've seen, and it's too small to be kitbashed Lionel bridge (now there's a thought).
      It's kind of a shame and an oddity that nobody makes one in HO. Out of all the kinds of moving bridges, the vertical lift bridge is the one that most readily lends itself to trainset operation (since both ends are always connected whether the bridge is open or closed, without need for a base).

    I have a Walthers bascule but I need to fix it so I can get it to work

    • @MarkRothman
      @MarkRothman  4 роки тому

      The Walthers came into us very damaged.. We replaced the plastic gears with stronger gears and fabricated replacement parts for the broken parts of the bridge itself. The vertical lift bridge was 100% custom designed, engineered and built.

    How to make the bridge

    • @MarkRothman
      @MarkRothman  6 років тому +1

      It was 3D printed for some of the parts, laser cut for some others, there was some machined brass for the main Towers and it was all brought together by our model makers.
